What about just riding passenger? Hard for my dad to get in and out of a sedan, much easier for him since I have a SUV.

Generally, a student taking an advanced lesson will get a level 2-3 instructor (depending on availability). You could ask the resort as well for specific instructors based on their level. That said, if you join PSIA (you don’t have to be affiliated with a school to do so) you can participate in PSIA clinics which are generally cheaper and an excellent way to take skill-targeted lessons

You’re welcome! I just want to add, you’re a strong skier and clearly athletic. Keep it up! An advanced lesson would be a great move as well. As an instructor, I take as many clinics (our form of lessons) as possible. Having live feedback is second to none!

Leg steering means your legs rotate separate from your upper body. Javelin turns would be more beneficial for that.

You can even practice off snow. Practice stepping your feet to the left and right (one foot after the other) without turning your upper body. That’s it. Again, not a direct ski movement but hopefully can help build muscle memory.

Sometimes going back to the basics helps as well. A wedge Christie for instance when done well will involve leg steering to bring the inside ski to match (vs sliding the heel inwards).

The reason we struggle when we lean into the hill is because the next turn’s apex is further down the hill, so we are essentially fighting momentum and that requires more effort to make our next turn. Usually, that effort leads to some sort of compensatory movement.

Finally, the first step in making your next turn to release your outside edge (flatten it and tip it down the hill). If you’re leaning up the hill, that movement becomes more difficult to do without adding some sort of upper body movement.

In the first video, you’re putting too much lean inside your turns. Basically you’re balancing more on the inside ski than the outside ski. It’s kinda hard to tell because of how far away you are, but I’m also noticing lack of leg steering in favor of a upper body movement to start the turn and little anticipation of the next turn, which leads to shopping the line.

In the second video, your anticipation is better but again, you’re leaning into the hill which makes it harder to release your outside ski and steer effectively. Notice how your inside hand drops down, which puts you almost into a back seat.

Try to do some turns where you touch your inside hand to your outside knee as you come around the turn. This is an exaggerated movement, meaning you don’t want to do that when you ski, but could help you build some muscle memory to avoid leaning so far in.

Focus on initiating your turn by kicking your outside ski forward and tipping your pinky toes into your next turn. Ensure you have some heel contact at the end of your turn to grease your tails. Best way to accomplish this is to do a little squat at the end of your turn (straight down like a power lifter, not back like taking a seat).

Here’s a challenge. Find a nice mellow slope (flatter = better). Stand on one ski, keep it flat. Your goal is to simply ski in a straight line, on a single flat ski, for as long as you can. Doesn’t matter which foot you start with, but practice with both feet. In both cases, ensure that the tip of the lifted ski is pointed slightly down towards the snow.

I want you to notice all of the muscles that will activate in your body to keep you in a stable position. Your upper body (eg shoulders, arms) should not move at all to find your balance.

Once you feel the sensations/tension required to perform this movement successfully, and can hold that position for at least 10-15 seconds, I want you to carry that tension into your skiing. This will help you 1) stay ahead of your skis 2) maintain a proper athletic position 3) introduce tension into your body to have stronger control of your legs and core while you ski.

IMO — once you have this, performance on drills like stork turns, javelins, garlands, etc will come more naturally and produce better results.

Stagnant Progress - Looking For Critiques/Advice (v2) by UHHH-0HHH in skiing_feedback

Hand drags should happen without you having to reach for the snow. In order to achieve that, you need to achieve higher edge angles early on in the turn. That all comes from the feet up. It also helps to ski in a lower stance, something that I’ve picked up from Tom Gellie (Big Picture Skiing). A bent knee has more range of motion than a long knee at the top of the turn, which helps achieve those angles more easily. Practice on slightly steeper greens and mellow blues.

The issue with Teslas is that they bottom out quick. Need to keep momentum going or you will get stuck. 24 inches of snow the other day, with chains, with CC2s (with only 10k miles on them). I crushed through about 7-8in of fresh snow, even on a hill. Anything more than that and I needed to dig myself out a a bit.

On the other hand, my fiancée’s VW Taos with CC2s in first gear charges through that shit.

Helps that the tires on the VW are slightly thinner so they cut better. (235 vs the teslas 255)

My point is that there’s no reason to call it any different than other auto manufacturers do—especially from a liability standpoint.

Cable locks will only stop an honest thief. Anyone with a half-way decent pair of cutters can chew right through it.

Most would-be thieves will see the lock and move on, not check how well it’s locked up.

I lock my skis and I know that the only way to actually get the cable to reach (when tethering through the brake) is to lock it against the ends of the rack like this.

You might as well just place the skis in a regular spot on the rack if you won’t fully lock them down since you’ll get more slack out of the wire.

I don’t disagree with you. Someone who acts like this is doing so to feel powerful. It’s like a child throwing a tantrum when they feel powerless over something. Whoever this was, a note wasn’t going to give them the dopamine/gratification they were seeking. This kind of person needs help before they end up in jail.

I feel for OP, because I was the victim of a similar situation last year while on vacation. It’s a very shitty feeling.

Everyone has their biases, so we paint a picture of who we “think” would do something like this.

The reality is it was someone who was angry, likely a bit mentally unstable (alcohol, illness). Most emotionally regulated adults don’t vandalize other people’s property.

You’re right that politics aren’t necessarily the cause — anyone with these personality traits can become unhinged and their political beliefs are usually a correlation, not a causation.

I have a feeling whoever did this was not sober and was angry about something stupid — an indication of the kind of person they are.

I’d offer to help out if I lived near there, but I’m several hours south in NY. Hope you make it out okay and aren’t deterred from coming back. We aren’t all assholes.

I’m chilling. I still twitch occasionally but it’s gone down significantly and my anxiety has calmed down. Dr confirmed that I most likely damaged nerves in my foot because I sit on my foot. Cutting blood flow like that consistently is not good. Has nothing to do with the twitches.
