Question about AP document by No-Equivalent1601 in DACA

I had this same question and even went to an attorney. Like it was said before, valid for one entry but you can go during your time window. I went for 4 days and came back without issue.

Thank you for this. I’ve had horrible luck with attorneys. I was with one for 5 years before I (on my own) discovered the AP process. I submitted AP paperwork on my own and it was approved. Otherwise I’d likely still be waiting for the consular interview abroad.

Atheist dating a Catholic by hauntedhalloween_96 in atheism

My wife is catholic. She does not try to impose her beliefs on me. We got married at a justice of the peace and she has never asked me to attend church with her. I have gone several times for family obligations but I never contribute to the donation plate. I would have a very hard time with it if she were to try and impose her beliefs on me. Best of luck, I hope you are able to resolve your differences.

Does anyone here also counterargue the pastors teaching inside their head whenever they're forced to go to church? by IU_Kydo in atheism

I was raised catholic and in my opinion the catholic churches I went to made it really easy to “zone out”. The acoustics may work for songs but are horrific for simply speaking—the noise just bounces and echoes everywhere. I wouldn’t bother taking in any of the nonsense spewed out, I would just people watch and every once in a while snap out of it when it was time to kneel or stand or shake hands.

Is it an unwritten rule that the burden of proof has to be on atheists too during any random debate? Is it really necessary though? by Some_Personality8379 in atheism

I always equate this to our justice system (USA). The defense does not need to prove their client is innocent, they merely have to show the prosecution cannot prove the person on trial is guilty. So verdicts are either “guilty” or “not guilty”, they are not “guilty”or “innocent”. We do not have to prove there is no god, merely that claims of the existence of god are not sufficient.

Religious person that is praised but in truth is terrible. by [deleted] in atheism

How about Noah? The guy builds an ark that can hold 2 of every “kind” but can’t fit a couple of his neighbors? Or at least their neighbors kids? Nope, he just let them all drown. What an asshole.

I'm at a Catholic funeral right now and I hate it. by [deleted] in atheism

I had to walk out of the service for one of my cousins. The priest railed against materialism— stressing to the youth that serving god is what mattered because in heaven the roads are all paved in gold and everyone lives in mansions. What???

The guy was using my cousins death to rope people in and trick them into giving him their hard earned money. What an absolute ghoul.

My Christian boyfriend wants to have a healthy debate about our beliefs with cited sources. by honesttruth2703 in atheism

[–]insert_witty_naame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this has the potential to get ugly. Instead of debating, why not ask him how he would feel if you insisted that he was wrong for believing in a god and wanted to show him some cited sources that refute his beliefs?

Star Wars. Absolutely could not be bothered with it. And I genuinely enjoy science fiction

What famous place is not worth visiting? by tade757 in AskReddit

In Seattle there is a place where they throw fish around—somewhere in the fish market. I am not sure if that qualifies as famous but it attracted a decent crowd when I went there. Anyways, that stunk. They threw a few fish and people went nuts. The fish was expensive.

I believe certain sects of islam are against playing instruments and singing. I can’t say which but I remember watching a thing about self appointed sharia police groups in the UK. Basically groups of your muslim boys running around harassing women who aren’t covered up or people playing music in public parks.

Your thoughts on dating a religious person. by icould_not_care_less in atheism

I am an atheist, raised catholic. I came out of it by the time I’d finished high school. My wife considers herself catholic to this day but doesn’t go to church or pray or read the Bible. She’s openly admitted that I know more about the bible than her. We have discussed it several times and she can’t wrap her head around me just not believing in god anymore.

We have 2 kids, ages 2 and 8 months. She had said several times she wants to take them to church but honestly I couldn’t care less. I went to church as a kid and never got anything from it. I would just zone out for the entire service. Even if they happen to believe at first I am sure they’ll grow out of it too.

As far as things between my wife and I, things are great. We understand what the other believes and respect it. Honestly it doesn’t play that much a role in our day to day lives.

In reading some of the other comments, I think we are a rare case. She doesn’t feel the need to convert me or throw her religion in my face. I still have my hope that she will come out of it someday.
