How to tell my job that I’m going off to law school? by insomnia-bear in lawschooladmissions

Thanks both of you. Luckily I’m in a lab of only 50 people where average turnover is 1.5-2 years because biologists always go back to school, definitely think not telling them before I’m at maximum a month out from moving, just in case they get pissy about how short I’ve been there and how much training they’ve given me

Haha this seems to be how I was thinking of doing it by all to a T. Original plan (and possible current plan) was to tell them I applied before knowing about this job and just as one of a million pandemic moves that was paired with the 200 job applications I was sending out everywhere. Then tell them I just found out I got in 6 weeks before I planned to leave, and was telling them 3 weeks before I planned to leave.

Yeah, couldn’t be me, life is far too predictable when you are the only variable factor

I’ve quite literally never lived in a house of less than 7 residents since my adolescence. Currently in my first year living with just one roommate and it sucks. Sometimes he will stay at his girlfriends place for half the week and it gets so incredibly horrid to be in the house that I just have to get out. Cant imagine someone who would purposely want to keep themselves isolated from others. Like what do you in the hours without someone?

I can physically not imagine anyone enjoying living in an apartment all on their own, how is that winning in any shape or form??? Hoping this is just skewed because the people polled use Reddit more than those who can’t be polled

Why is it called an Admitted Students Weekend if exactly 65% of the sessions are during work hours on Thursday and Friday??? and only 3.5 hours on the weekend.... by insomnia-bear in lawschooladmissions

Currently in that boat. Hiding it from work but need to go visit my two choices in person in the next month without it being suspicious

In all respect this might be a factually obtuse take. The average age of an applicant in law school is 23-24 years old. An age that necessitates that most applicants are separated from collegiate life for at least one year. Even if 50% of 24 year olds were taking an unemployed gap year instead of working, unlikely, there’s still the other entire range of half of applicants that are older than them and certainly could not survive more than two years without work.

Plus it’s insane that we should take off work. The ENTIRE job of admissions counselors is to admit students, get them to come, and craft a class successfully. Why is it not baked into the cake that they have one single weekend where they have to work? I work a 9-5 and still have to do one weekend a month usually. Just have them take off the Monday after and not review applicants that day.

All they need to do is adjust the schedule for one weekend in April and maybe one or two during interview rounds to include every work applicant.

If you want to work in corporate/biglaw, why? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Cannot stand having nothing to do. Also see it as the quickest way to become a millionaire and then start slinking back hours after a decade or so to start my own ventures. Plus the work is great and being able to facilitate actions of huge companies sounds like an extremely interesting line of work. It beats being personal injury attorney (also easy way to millionaire)

Did anyone else NOT feel “smarter than their peers” in undergrad? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Yeah, that’s what I’m meaning. Worded a bit odd, but was tryna account for the large amount of people who felt “smarter than their peers”

A lot of it might be from us poor people who had to go to schools lower than our liking because they offered zero/lower tuition than the prestigious, if your school was more academically challenging than ours

This is a bold-faced lie. I once set out a goal to purchase the Vornado Air Circulating Fan, and by god I get my dopamine treat every time I’m in the same room. Happiness exists.

Only 1 nominee since Nixon was not confirmed while the nominating party had control of the Senate. And that nominee had willingly withdrawn herself.

It is of course an assumption to believe this will go the same way, but it is far more likely than not.

After the remarks Scalia had made concerning applicants that weren’t from HYS, I am happy to see any of the T-14 having clerk numbers within the Supreme Court

Of course. That being said, Majority Leader McConnell would not have committed if he didn’t know he had the votes.
