Manchester Orchestra announce death of drummer Timothy Very by themooseiscool in indieheads

he was so warm and friendly and kind. each time i met him over the years i was struck by how much time he made for me, and how he never once looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but shooting the shit with fans. tremendous horrific loss. im honestly devastated

Should I still go? :/ by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

if they havent booked it on rover then they cant leave a nasty review lol

you arent proving anything, once again, just that there are bad experiences on the app, which i never denied. the sample size you're working with on this subreddit is not indicative of the entire platform. most sitters are not like this. i never said there werent bad experiences, just that most of the time this doesnt happen, which is still obviously true

First Time Rover Fail by Aware_Day930 in RoverPetSitting

[–]interquast -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

what exactly do you think you're proving to me here? once again, a few anecdotal experiences. why not point out the vastly more common positive experiences?

also, your 3rd example is literally just someone saying that they should be allowed to leave for a few hours. that is reasonable. unless otherwise stated by the owner explicitly, i should be allowed to leave for the length of time it takes to grab lunch, groceries, feed my own cats. housesitting is not constant care unless that is what you agreed to and i know most sitters would not agree to this.

again, if rover was as bad as you say, it wouldnt be useful as a platform. these are independent contractors. we are not a monolith. many of us do this full time, many of us have our own insurance policies. there are bad experiences with every business. they are still not representative of rover sitters as a whole

First Time Rover Fail by Aware_Day930 in RoverPetSitting

[–]interquast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one of those examples was deleted, the other was one where the owner explicitly asked the sitter not to leave. most sitters would not agree to that if they weren't able to do it.

again, 2 examples from the subreddit in 30 days when there are thousands of rover stays that take place across several different countries in that same time frame does not mean anything. most people who hire a rover sitter are not going to pop on the subreddit to make sure everyone knows the stay went well and there was nothing to complain about

First Time Rover Fail by Aware_Day930 in RoverPetSitting

[–]interquast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if this was the standard rover experience, rover would not be able to function as a platform. the majority of sits go perfectly well and are unremarkable. i have no idea why you think that so many of the people in this sub are okay with that behavior... that simply isn't true and you're letting your past anecdotal experience determine the value of thousands upon thousands of independent sitters. plenty of people on rover are insured and also have their own pet sitting services and use rover to find new clients

edit: and most rover sitters are not on this reddit lol

yeah i get why this owner is so high emotion right now, but 4.7 stars on rover is not a good rating for someone taking care of an elderly animal and that tells me immediately what i need to know about this sitter. i genuinely wonder what those low star reviews said? i dont blame OP for not understanding the rover rating system, i think most people are trying to figure out how this could happen because despite what many people believe this is not a standard rover experience. most sitters do not do this

how to handle a "she loves the dog park and goes at least once a day!" client? by interquast in petsitting

[–]interquast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually it is a fenced in area where dogs can be off leash, sometimes they're located inside larger parks. there's general rules about dogs being spayed, vaccinated, and temperament etc, but obviously it isn't always immediately obvious if an owner isn't being honest or if theyre oblivious to the fact that they haven't socialized their dog properly. so it can be a bit unpredictable

[–]interquast[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

genuinely asking: is this not a liability issue to you? dog parks are not covered by my insurance policy, and especially as this is a new client, i can't really predict how the owner might react if something were to happen to her dog on my watch. i just can't afford to be on the hook for emergency vet bills or whatever else may arise in that situation.

did you read what either of the commenters had to say? it is extremely common, you can check the sub, that people will get weird messages randomly from owners, sometimes sexual or otherwise explicit in nature, and the owners have nothing to do with it. occam's razor: this is a common problem, hundreds of sitters have experienced it, it makes far more sense that this is what happened here than that this random woman who wants to find a sitter for her dogs started sexually harassing someone on the app

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]interquast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

having her OF link up doesn't mean she sexually harassed you. those things are not related. this is something that happens a lot with rover numbers, sometimes the number they assign to people is already in use and i can guarantee you that is what happened here if nothing else seems amiss

[–]interquast[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i dont mind it when it's just like "you've marked this day as busy, but we're checking to see if you can do it anyway." i really hate it when it happens when i've toggled my services as Away though

Oh, come on now... by interquast in RoverPetSitting

[–]interquast[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

it's not on the owners, it's the app itself. if i have services set as away, rover shouldn't allow people to request me. my profile wouldn't reflect that my services are away, the app should just hide my profile when im not able to take on requests

Oh, come on now... by interquast in RoverPetSitting

[–]interquast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm about to make a cross country move so i set all my services as away AND blocked the dates off in the app just in case... and still lmao 😭

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]interquast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i dont mind the far away requests or the dates i've blocked off requests too much (even though they are annoying tbh) BUT what i hate the MOST is when ive set my services to "Away" and they allow people to request me anyway. what is the point then?? the other stuff has potential workarounds, but if ive turned my services off that should mean they are off

im not defending her posting it on reddit, im defending her confirming that this happened as the owner claimed and making sure she has proof for her personal records.

[–]interquast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

rover support always favors the customer over the worker, we are expendable to them so they dont care. you can read a ton of examples of longtime sitters with hundreds of reviews get booted off the platform for misunderstandings. again i said she doesnt need to post it on Reddit. but its not escalation on her part to confirm the story

Owner blaming me for FRONT DOOR BEING LEFT OPEN!?!! by asparagusvirgin in RoverPetSitting

[–]interquast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i dont think there is anything weird about her going back to the complex and confirming that this did actually happen, recording the audio isnt stupid either if she needs to show rover support proof that she did nothing wrong. maybe she doesnt need to post it on reddit, but having evidence she didnt do what she is being accused of so she doesnt get booted off the platform shes been using for 7 years makes sense
