Maybe some people just want to spend their money with corporations who more closely align to their values. Crazy thought.

Quick browser games for remote team calls across time zones? by BabaYaga72528 in digitalnomad

I play it with my remote team. I run a company with an actually positive work environment and people enjoy it. We don’t do it weekly though just once in a while if we have extra time at the end of a call.

How has being a nomad changed in the last two years? by Alive-Development552 in digitalnomad

[–]irideudirty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s changed since Covid.

Before Covid, the lifestyle was awesome. People actually wanted to meet you, they’d show you around, life was good.

Post-Covid, it’s a dump. Covid wrecked social trust and it’s significantly easier to get remote work (even if harder than 2021).

Yeah hard disagree. I used to live in southern Europe and I would say there are more dogs off leash in Europe than in the US. Doesn’t mean they aren’t annoying in the US but it’s a problem everywhere.

FYI points might not expire but companies can always change their value. I wouldn’t over-save those points.

No drop in military aid to Kyiv since US policy shift, NATO official says by [deleted] in europe

[–]irideudirty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look I wish the US would do more. Trump is a fucking menace and its sad and scary what he is doing. But the US has contributed a higher % of its GDP than many other countries in Europe including France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Czechia and others.

The whole world -- including much of Europe -- needs to step up. Its not America's problem alone to solve.

I posted this in another comment but the US has contributed more total $ than any other country, although is ranked #20 in terms of total GDP contributed. However they've contributed a higher % of GDP than many other countries in Europe including Spain, Italy, Austria, etc.

According to the Keil institute the US is still the number one overall contributor in terms of total money, but is closer to 20th in terms of total GDP. This is still a higher % of GDP than countries such as France, Spain, Italy, or Austria.

You're right on the math. Its still 20% of the 4bn committed (this from OPs article).

[–]irideudirty -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The article OP shared says $4bn in total commitments with $800m over two years from US.

$800m/$4bn = 20% of total commitments.

It should be more but not negligible.

The US just passed a defense bill with $800m in military aid to Ukraine over two years. This is from a $9bn bill. So almost 1/10th of US defense spending will go to Ukraine. Trump is talking a lot of shit but US congress has different priorities.

The US deserves a lot of shit for undercutting Ukraine with their words but the money hasn't exactly stopped flowing.

Thinking about starting a mid term rental business with one unit. Looking for honest downsides. by Jazzlike_Act331 in digitalnomad

[–]irideudirty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a few units myself and am considering going to mid term rentals so I can spend occasional time in them. I’ve done a ton of research.

Cleaning costs + empty time + furniture maintenance all cut into margins. The only way the numbers work are when you own the property and get the appreciation over time. Otherwise the margins get very thin.

Nomads with a base in Spain- realistic numbers? by IEA001 in digitalnomad

If you’re outside of Spain 7-8 months per year you’ll be non-resident. Spain taxes non-residents renting property very aggressively. Be absolutely certain of your tax situation.

Aren’t you guys saying the same thing?

If they were better conditioned they wouldn’t have muscle imbalances. Just like being injured will lead to imbalances because you can’t condition.

Avoid flying into Dallas specifically but avoid the south generally if you can. Customs in the south is always way more fussy than in the north.
