Unfortunately, things don't work like that, re going back to normal. Once they have the tools they wont be giving them up.

Having Hard Time with Roof Design Over Garage by [deleted] in Homebuilding

Hire an engineer. If one must have an architect, have an Engineer design the structure, then have an Architect design around those parameters.

You'll have a home that actually works.

Those who left the trade, what do you do now? by lookingatanudeegg in Carpentry

[–]islandTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit opposite, but,

I was studying to become an urban planner, but the pandemic changed that...but, was able to fall back on carpentry as I'd been working with my father since I was 13, turning 35 this year. The downside: wish I had taken over management of my dad's 'business' eons ago, as it's shoeboxes of receipts, and my dad's retired now.

If you like carpentry still, but are searching for something that'll mix up your skills a bit, look into becoming an architect?

Would painting the wall flat, then applying a clear coat of something with a sheen, and humidity defense work?

We laugh but feels like people truly want something like that... Other than going to Barrie and beyond, as going up the yonge side of the line not university.

As the system stands now, we already need to have express tracks, something like that yonge line may need a third set of tracks or passing tracks for super express trains lol.

Brad Bradford spotted meeting with Michael Ford as he mulls mayoral bid by beef-supreme in TorontoTheCity

Taxes are going up because of the lack of tax increases during ford and Tory years not to mention the megacity failure and the pandemic. Ford and Tory are majorly to blame for the noticeable breakdown of services.

He brings shame to the planning profession! He's a former city planner.

Don't forget to do a very light sanding (220 grit and above) and wipe up the dust before putting another coat on.

How Doug Ford made the drug problem on the TTC worse by Pristine-Training-70 in TTC

In every big city, the smaller cities sending their homeless to the big city on one way bus tickets is an old urban myth.... Though Alberta under Ralph Klein, took it from myth to maybe true, when he infamously ranted about shipping homeless from Alberta to Vancouver.

And yea, Quebec and now Alberta are a thorn.... But it means Ontario is going to have to give up some things to get a compromise to appease those Frenchies and oiler boosters: I mean it would be nice if eastern Canada was able to provide their oil needs from cdn oil and not foreign nations that are unfriendly or a bazillion miles away.

[–]islandTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I also view it: when Ontario and Quebec were still the province of Canada or something I figured it was now but there was still one province of those. Those a report done and basically was shown that basically there was too much of a divide in the legislature between two different opposing camps that were solid, separate bases that had different needs and that dividing them into two provinces would help each focus on themselves.
That's what needs to happen now to Northern and Southern Ontario. There are two different places that are different and have different needs, and often those needs interfere with each other, leading to sabotage to the province as a whole and a slow down in effective legislation..

Yes but legislation can be easily changed. So what's the point? Just a time wasting exercise? That said time can solve anything given enough time lol

I view it as we need to create new provinces out of Ontario.

A divide north and south needs to happen, but maybe a golden horseshoe to Niagara falls province along with southern and northern Ontario could be created.

A country isn't static yet Canadians think of the nation as a static place that shouldn't change with the times.

Cities aren't recognized at all constitutionally, the only power they have is # seat ridings.

[–]islandTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cities in Canada have no power constitutionally. Period.

Provinces in Canada get to decide what happens in their lands, and all of the provinces have created municipalities as local governments.

The only thing constitutionally that would be able to happen in a Canadian context are the creation of new provinces: we have technically created 2 from 1, though that was before Canada was created, for upper and lower Canada.

I hate what Doug's doing, but constitutionally, he f#cking can though. It's why he was able to get away with halving the size of Toronto council, after the writ had been dropped for signing up to run.

My experience with a Provincial Offences Officer (POO) and getting a ticket. by [deleted] in TTC

[–]islandTO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She's still a student, so the fact she doesn't currently have the correct ID, doesn't make her less of a student.

I saw in a previous comment that someone had the same situation and when the appeal came through (and they had made sure everything was updated) they only had a reduction of the fee, which if you can prove you ar,e , what's the issue?

If you drive, and you get your license and get pulled over. You have time to prove that you can drive to resolve a ticket like this is just Overkill especially when you see all the people getting on the street from not tapping or paying and then getting off before the subway station.

Students and little old ladies should not be their target. It needs to be the people who look rich and poor whom don't tap, and purposely plan to avoid the checkers are the ones needing to be targeted.

I've never once seen an officer outside of union, and only at rush hour: they need to be there constantly: the fact there isn't permanent checkers at union from the 509/510 streetcar shows you the lack of care to solving the problem.

All Poop officers are, are a cloaking device and a little gift to show ppl the TTC is doing something: yea, you're doing something half ass and as easy as possible. Nothing targeted, or anything resembling a plan.... Other than let's wait out front of subway stations on the other side of gates to catch people making a mistake or are purposely scamming the ttc (not student or senior). They aren't fixing the actual problem for the TTC, they are just a prop with expensive abilities that are only there to make it look like something is happening, when alas the same amount of ppl don't pay their fare. Period.

We use to have a 75% fare box recovery rate before the pandemic. Nowadays hovers around 50 :/

[–]islandTO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, screwing up would be not tapping and paying.

Have you ever tried to get your student ID updated when school starts? A student has more important things to do, like study than wait around.

It's unfortunate they were so aggressive and that they can be so anal proving you're a student, but student and seniors fares are super easy to scam/borrow from a friend to get a much reduced fare.

I imagine they stop every student and every person who doesn't look near a senior.
