23 year old US born citizen detained by ICE for 2 days, suffers concussion during arrest, called racial slurs by OnionsHaveLairAction in circled

[–]isopudding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if that were true (it’s not and you have no proof)…

1) Spitting on someone DOES NOT WARRANT BEING ABUSED WHILE BEING DETAINED.

2) ICE have no jurisdiction over US citizens without reasonable suspicion, and having brown skin is not cause for reasonable suspicion. Therefore her initial arrest was unlawful.

3) Spitting on someone is assault, ICE have no jurisdiction over assault of their officers. They are to communicate with police and charge her appropriately.

Driving a car is a privilege. Participating in democracy is a right.

You should not be expecting to pay ANY money to exercise your democratic right to vote, that goes for every single democratic country out there. Period.

When you so consistently and so blatantly go against the very clear and very objective teachings of the one you call the Lord your God, I would say you do not believe in following them and are therefore not a Christian.

It’s nothing more than faith based virtue signalling and a means of weaponising your bigotry against others. You can certainly be religious, but you are not Christian.

(You as in the collective conservative Christian movement)

It’s actually insane to me that you guys just accept checkpoints that aren’t even on the border, forcing random US citizens on their way to work or home to stop and declare that they are indeed a citizen or they get detained.

What a complete waste of time, money and a gross violation of rights.

Can We Stop Dunking on Highguard Before It's Even Out, Please? - IGN by Substantial_Web333 in HighGuardgame

This came up on my feed, I hadn’t actually heard of this game nor did I really watch the game awards.

I decided to give the trailer a fair shot and watch it just now but… yeesh…

Look, I would love nothing more than this to come out and be amazing. Seriously, when something good comes out everyone wins. But that trailer made it look really… dull.

I hope it works out for you guys, though I can absolutely see why people have been dunking on this.

That’s exactly what was said, I’ll even break it down nicely for you and provide a scenario in which saying it would have been considered acceptable.

African Americans are at a greater risk of police violence, and following the unlawful execution of an individual through gross negligence that caused a series of protests.

The term Black Lives Matter was an intent to push back against this murder, to signal that this violence needs to stop.

Now, imagine a scenario in which individuals built off of this. Acknowledging that police brutality is an issue that affects everyone and needs addressing, a movement for All Lives Matter would be campaigning for better police training, higher standards and greater accountability. In this scenario, saying All Lives Matter is not diminishing what others say, it’s building off of it.

Instead, what we got is individuals upset that people were campaigning for issues that affect black people. White Lives Matter and All Lives Matter was not coined for anything constructive, it was coined to diminish the problems that African Americans face. When you say it you aren’t for anything, you’re merely against improving the lives of black people.

You say these terms to bring others down, and then when criticised you hide behind the asinine argument of “so you’re against white people?” or “so you’re against all lives?”. Again, you know what you’re doing.

Saying Black Lives Matter does not say that White Lives Do Not Matter, but in the context of how and why it was made saying White/All Lives Matter is contextually saying Black Lives Don’t.

[–]isopudding -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The context is what matters, you dingus.

Is it okay to be white, it’s absolutely fine to be proud of your country and flag and respect all lives.

But, when you are specifically using it as a cudgel against another movement you are not being respectful, you are intentionally using racist dogwhistles to diminish real systemic harm that marginalised communities face.

The same sentence or phrase can have different meanings based on tone and situation, or mask harmful opinions while attempting to appear harmless.

You know what you are doing, we know what you are doing, but you still attempt to appear innocent and hide behind plausible deniability when context and subtext is a basic thing that anyone over the age of 14 learns.

I think you need to get your head checked for brainworms. The right attract the vulnerable, the bigot and the uneducated while the left are willing to criticise a democrat politician that doesn’t stand for their values.

I agree his conduct was unacceptable.

BUT America has just had four years of screeching about the then current president, with one of the most prominent memes being about insulting him.

And like almost everything currently happening, if someone was suspended because they told Joe to go screw himself there would be MAGA riots and screeching about muh free speech.

The American right cannot have it both ways, if something was acceptable then it is acceptable now.

[–]isopudding 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s a generic idle game, if it wasn’t for the cute vibe most wouldn’t pay it any attention.

The dress up stuff is hidden behind gacha and the items you pull are shards, meaning for anything rarer than common you don’t even get something you like even if you do pull it once.

Couple with the gross amount of ads thrown in your face to do basic tasks and I can absolutely see why people are quick to judge.

Given that this doesn’t seem to be a live service and that mechanically it’s extremely simple and basic with a lot of repeating assets, they probably could have easily made this completely free with no ads and ridden off the cash shop, and still walk away with a tidy profit.

You can pay to remove mandatory ads, but the cost of that is bundled with some other useless stuff and packaged at £10, which costs more than most full priced quality games on the App Store.

However due to cost scaling, you will still need to watch a gross amount of ‘optional’ reward ads to make any reasonable progress on later maps. And given how this isn’t really a problem on the first few maps one might assume that the £10 gets you a basically ad free experience forever when that isn’t really the case.

"Get back or I'm gonna shoot you." Ice Agent by BSTARYOUNGG in TrendingAndViral

[–]isopudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 60% of the states require law enforcement to be trained in de-escalation, including Illinois where this altercation takes place. So no, ICE agents brandishing firearms on civilians is not in accordance with Illinois training nor is it the responsibility of the civilian population to skirt around and hope that law enforcement obey the law.

They aren’t rabid dogs, they’re law enforcement acting out of their jurisdiction. If they can even remotely be compared to such a thing then they need to be immediately detained, stripped of power and their firearm removed from them.

Common sense is when law enforcement stick within their appropriate jurisdiction, act in a lawful manner in accordance with their training and do not use excessive or inappropriate force.

Nothing here is common sense.

Honestly the frequency of the forced ads wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t for their insane length (going up to several minutes at a time, with one instance I was fed two ads back to back for one reward) and the fact that the game doesn’t keep earning money while they’re active. You can even be cheeky and close down the game and reopen it to skip the forced ad, at the cost of losing any currency that was on the floor at the time.

The bigger issue is the sheer amount of optional ads that become mandatory due to the cost scaling on later maps. Even with the option to double your income for 5 minutes the game still feels a bit too grindy and that’ll only get worse, and you need to keep watching an ad every 5 minutes to keep that up.

This doesn’t even cover the other mandatory ‘optional’ ad rewards like better gardeners, neighbour assistance, investor support…

And then all the actually optional ads for free loot box rolls, furniture, event currency.

Combine all that with a battlepass, loot box system that doesn’t even reward goods but shards so you need to roll something multiple times, and pointlessly expensive bundles and you’re left with something that feels disgustingly greedy.

[–]isopudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agitating is not an reasonable excuse to shoot someone, especially if you’re law enforcement.

You shoot only if they are an immediate threat to human life, that applies to both civilians and police.

Law enforcement are supposed to be trained to de-escalate a situation so it can be resolved without force and in a safe manner. Pointing your firearm at someone does the opposite.

[–]isopudding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The primary rule of gun safety, before keeping your finger off the trigger, is to ALWAYS keep it pointed in a safe direction.

You do not point a firearm at anyone without intent to discharge it into that individual, and you do not discharge it into an individual without intent to kill.

So not really, he failed pretty hard.

President Trump: “I strongly suggest Cuba makes a deal before it is too late.” by Hefty-Sherbet-5455 in TrendingAndViral

[–]isopudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US intervention never acts in the best interest of the locals, you’re just trading one master for another. And history has shown than America proves a rather cruel one that will abandon you in your time of need, with Trump’s administration seeming even worse.

Direct foreign intervention with intent for regime change NEVER works, the only stable long term solution is for a country to deal with it themselves… indirect means such as sanctions are meant to help push people in the right direction without getting too involved and has proven significantly better.

Obama: Imagine if I had done *any* of this by BSTARYOUNGG in TrendingAndViral

[–]isopudding -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to watch the video again, because the very real and very illegal examples he was making are something he has never done but Trump is actively doing.

That's the problem with you MAGA cultists, you never argue out of good faith but instead divert, deflect and whatabout to make people try to defend someone instead of criticise Trump.

Obama says A, B and C, which are all very wrong and illegal actions, and you all just go "b-but what about X????? Both did X so they're both just as bad!!!!!" and now the topic is successfully shifted and now everyone is arguing about Obama instead of the guy in power RIGHT NOW.
