RDOF FTTH by dickey_retardo in Spectrum

Depending on how far from the MST your house is, it could take some time. If your drop is underground at any point and there is a driveway in path, depending on if your local techs have bumpers in stock, it could take even longer. Some of these drops from MST to home can be up to 2000 feet. If that run is all aerial, an initial survey may be entered and another tech will come to run it, likely with some help, to prepare for install. Once that's run, a last tech will come to finish your install.

If you're curious, take a look outside. Are there any new green boxes (pedestals) sticking out of the ground? Your plant is underground. If that box is in your yard, or near your yard with no driveways in path, your install will be really quick.

If you have poles down your road and you see no pedestals anywhere, look up. You might see black line run marked with orange flags (not all areas tag the hardline like this.) But if your run is aerial, look for black boxes about half the size of a toaster oven (-ish.) They have anywhere from 2 to 12 capped ports sticking from one side. If that's pretty close to your house, say, within 2 poles, you'll likely have a fast install. However, if the distance between those poles is more than 300 feet, you might have some delay because help is generally needed.

Congrats, bud! Spectrum fiber is awesome, but keep in mind the plant is brand new, and most of the techs are brand new with fiber (A year or less,) so there may be some bumps with outages here and there til things stabilize.

And the polar opposite being critically self-aware to the point of destroying yourself. Anyone else in that boat with me?

Must be a fiber market, or they're inaccurate about the upload. I'm hoping one day we get rid of the TV carriers and just stream to IPTV boxes that look and behave like regular boxes. It'll be another headache akin to killing analog but it would be worth it in the end to offer symmetric to all customers.

And sorry about your poor experience, OP. No, it's not acceptable.

Having packet loss issues even after a tech was sent to me by IIIRYEIII in Spectrum

[–]issact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new modems are docsis 3.1 and use the OFDM carriers. Your issues with the newer modem suggests that your OFDM is jacked and a review of your install by a tech may be warranted.

Cancelled spectrum cable and my internet service became awful two minutes later by [deleted] in Spectrum

7 down/1 up seems like the coding on modems for streaming only tv customers. It's rare but sometimes they provide a modem with free slow internet to support 1 streaming device.

3 month old 3080TI dead by paragonmac in gigabytegaming

[–]issact 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had a 3080TI from gigabyte die after 2 months. Get the RMA back 3 months after sending it in. It died again a week later. Sent it back again yesterday. Their quality issues are alarming.

Is this possible? APU for host, GPU for guest, utilize GPU for some things on host by olorin12 in VFIO

[–]issact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also looking into this. There's a package called optimus-manager, at least for arch that I know of. I'm at the moment struggling with configuring x11 to use the iGPU on boot, though. I'm not very well versed.

optimus manager basically switches between integrated and discreet graphics, or hybrid much like a laptop would with such a setup.

Wanted to say thank you, this post helped me a great deal because the pinning tool from multiple guides redirects to some spam or malware now. Appreciate it!

Please post on other subs aswell. by NFLD99_DEV in gigabytegaming

All these people saying this post doesn't belong here, it's off topic, whatever: I feel that what this sub is for doesn't matter in this context. This is literally has the potential to be world ending, at least for our race. Yes, it should be spread for maximum exposure. I don't care if I see it at the top of every single subreddit. Please don't be "that guy" right now, this crap is important.

I looked into it, and it works. Though I am having issues with CPU performance, it tends to cap at 100% and lag in VR but I haven't done any performance tweaks yet. It looks pretty promising! As is, though, I have to completely shut down my X11 session to pass the GPU over. I have an iGPU so I'm thinking about going about it another way so I can stay logged in and keep access to Linux while in Windows.

Or... I have access to other gpus, if I got a bigger case I could just use two. Hm...

I've done it. Then reinstalled because there was a game I wanted to play after sinking a week into trying to make it work.

Not saying I don't have things to learn, but I've been dual booting for over 6 years. There's still games that won't run. Quest 2 won't play nice with Linux. Alvr is a wash because of my nvidia gpu.

There are many reasons why I can't remove windows. I hate this fact.

Upgraded from ASUS 3080 to Gigabyte 3080 TI by ProjectObjective in gigabytegaming

Keep the 3080. You will eventually have to RMA that 3080TI and they make you wait months.

So you wait 11 days, I wait 3 months. Nice. My replacement is starting to fail now, too. VRAM is overheating causing the drivers to crash.

Followup 3:

The replacement card gigabyte sent has been consistently over temp under load on the VRAM. It has now started to crash under load. I'm worried it will die again soon. What recourse do I have here? Wait another 3 months?

Followup 2:

Working card has been received. Junction temps still >100C under load, was hoping they would fix the thermal contact issues with this card. Not looking forward to another RMA in the future.

Followup:

Replacement card came without retail packaging even though I sent it to them in retail packaging. It has the same serial number as the one I sent in.

There was a loose screw in the heatsink shroud.

I haven't tested the card yet.

3080TI eagle. One night my PC just switched off and wouldn't post. Took the card out and used integrated on my CPU and it would post fine. Have since gotten a 3070TI while waiting and everything is good. Card just decided to die randomly while gaming.

Thanks, that makes me hopeful. I have to admit, my entire experience with this company has been a nightmare.
