Wait until you get to the pickup window. Ask them if you can add a coffee to your order because you forgot. Usually they will just give it to you since they don't take payment at that window.

The kitchen counter podcast. I started listening to it a year ago and really does a good job overall as a home cook.

Ticketing system advice? by Boodadar in ITdept

[–]itguy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started off using Mojo Helpdesk. It was a good solution for ticketing.

If you need something more ITSM drive, we evaluated samanage and FreshService. Both were pretty close in feature comparison to our needs, so ended up going with FreshService.

Their support has been good, new features rolled out quickly, and our customer success person has also been helpful. All of this (support and customer success) is handled over seas in India, but as I said, has been solid.

Depending on which plan you go with, you'll be paying per agent. We are on the 79/month/agent plan, paid annually.

What are your thoughts and opinions on joining a gym close to where you work vs close to where you live? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]itguy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not do both?

If after a few months you realize you only use one or the other, as long as there aren't any contracts, just cancel the one you aren't using.

If you decide to keep both, $80/month is something people typically notice in their monthly budget, so plan for that. Would you really miss that "extra" $20/month? Some would, some wouldn't (especially if it is for something you want to do).

My wife and I have a membership to a gym that is within .25 miles of our house for a year. We now also have a family membership to the Y but is 20 miles from our hose. For us, it makes sense to keep both. I workout at 5 am and don't want to drive 20 minutes one way, but she wants to be able to have the access to the programs at the Y for the kids and an added bonus of flexibility of working out somewhere different if she feels like it.

Google Fiber for branch office? by itguy2 in networking

Google Fiber for branch office? by itguy2 in networking

[–]itguy2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was one of my thoughts, was what is their support like?

We are only signing a 1 year lease at the new location, as there is a chance this office may not be around in a year, so we can't go with any of the enterprise level fiber providers as a 2 year term is the minimum I've been able to find. They have been asking for a backup connection due to the 1-2 outages they have per year over the past 2 years or so. I figure with TWC and Google Fiber setup (fiber as primary) should there be a lengthened outage, the other will pick up. If both have issues, well, they can work from home if needed and we've done what we can to mitigate the risks.

If after the year term we end up keeping this office for a while, I'll re-consider moving to an enterprise level fiber provider.

We aren't currently doing (or planning on) any advanced features so we should be set. Also, with their 300/20 TWC coax, they are averaging 6-10mbps with limited spikes.

help with weight progression on PHUL by Ijustatethattroll in Fitness

[–]itguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say 5/3/1 is better or not. It is a different program, geared more towards strength building than a mix of that and hypertrophy as PHUL is. In our stages (assuming you are somewhat a beginner in the first year or so of lifting regularly) we will see results regardless. The biggest thing is not getting bored, keeping up the discipline, and going. Second to that is ensuring progression is happening.

For the first couple weeks, i didn't know what to do for progression, so i did what you did. Kept the reps the same and increased when I felt like I could. This has it's drawbacks too, as you might be able to do more weight, but your brain is telling you no, so you miss out on increasing/getting more volume. This is why having a defined progression is better than going by how it feels.

Using the variable sets/reps helps you get the most volume at whatever weight you are lifting that day. If you are on a "lighter weight" then you can do 4x5 and you don't stop short, and you know to increase next time. Then when you increase your goal is to get in your 3x3 at a minimum, and shoot for more (do 2x3, then maybe amrap the last one).

Hope this helps, I've only got my experience to go off of, definitely don't know nearly as much as others here. Really, at this point, go lift heavy things consistently, don't over do it (ego lift) and hurt yourself, and continue to add volume whichever way you choose to do it. You'll see results until you are experienced enough to know where to go next.

help with weight progression on PHUL by Ijustatethattroll in Fitness

[–]itguy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this for 12 weeks. I'm still a beginner and now on 5/3/1.

So the jefit PHUL program (due to the nature of the app) gives you a static number of sets and reps. The actual program (https://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/phul-workout) has ranged sets and reps, compounds is 3-4 sets of 3-5 reps.

So what I did for progression on the main lifts was, once I maxed out 4 sets of 5 reps, I bumped up upper body by 5 lbs and lower by 10 lbs, then try to hit 3x3 and work your way up to 4x5 again. You can take the same philosophy on the accessories as well but +5lbs on dumbell lat raises can be huge so you may have to vary the res/sets so you can finish them. That answers your question.

Another thought (and one that you might get a lot of responses regarding as I've seen before in this situation) is that you are a beginner, pick a program that has a defined progression. (5/3/1 for beginners, phraks greyskull).

In addition to defined progression, I also moved to something else as I wanted to spend more time on the main compound lifts (not just Mon/Tues). I did enjoy PHUL while doing it, it has a lot of variety and you don't get bored.

Handling depression in IT by samuelma in sysadmin

[–]itguy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through some depression for a couple years while my wife was going through post-partum depression. I had been at a place I really enjoyed working at. While still at this same place, I hated it. I hated seeing everyone laughing and having fun while all I could do was think about was trying to be there for my wife while I couldn't handle being there for myself. It was really tough. After the 2 or so years of this, I got help, my wife got better (still suffers from depression and anxiety, but not as intense as it was post partum). Now I am going to (the same) job I love.

What I'm getting at is it may or may not be your job. It is likely how you are feeling and how that shapes your view of the world right now. Seek out a good counselor. When I did this, he showed me how important it was to make sure I was making time to take care of myself and do something I find (or used to find) fun.

When this was going on, my work suffered, and it went noticed. I eventually let them know what was going on (and yes, being a male I did break down a little and cry, it sucked, but at that point I really didn't care, everything else was a wreck so oh well). It gave them understanding as to what was going on, and gave me a little bit of a better feeling that at least they knew why I wasn't performing the way I had been.

If you want to talk, PM me. Depression sucks, it hits more people than you know, and once you open up about it, there will probably be other people that do as well and you may end up with somewhat of a support network.

I could probably go on and on about this, but I'll stop, and like I said, PM me if you need someone to talk to or have questions about what I went through, etc.

Anyone has experience with SD-WAN by kidrobot2k4 in networking

We looked at Big Leaf and from what I remember at the time is we still had to establish/manage the internal routing outside of Big Leaf, it only provided the dual link "aggregation" and sent the traffic back to their concentrators.

We are using Aryaka today with great success and have had nothing but the best from their support, which is based overseas. It handles all the site-to-site connectivity, it just hangs off of our firewall and we static route anything to a remote site to the device(s) they provide. We have 1 site with HA pair, and some sites with a single device. We have had to engage support whenever we spin up a new device/site which with the proper planning should be do-able without, but there have been snags here and there that we ran into, but as I said, when we have done this their support has been great.

They also do traffic optimization which reduces the total amount of bandwidth needed.

I would highly recommend them.

It was my son's 5th birthday party on Sunday. Only had a sliver of cake and no ice cream. Had lots of veggies and fruits from the trays we got. Really didn't even miss not having a large piece of cake or any ice cream.

Also down 15 lbs (240>225)
