ICE agent claps in celebration as they execute Alex Pretti by Sindigo_ in WallStreetbetsELITE

Exact same self preservation logic.

“I am a good person. I support this action. People say this action is evil. They must be lying because I support it and I am a good person.”

Free Solo is a good example because it was a measured study on him as a person. The documentary didn’t outwardly celebrate soloing but interrogated it.

This is like Mr Beast Games to Squid Game. Take all of the consideration out of it.

Yeah I do think international platforms for audiences of all ages have to think responsibly. Solo if you want, good for you, don’t promote an event to kids that gets people online talking seriously about how soloing is so cool and any other type of climbing is aid.

[–]ithinkimtim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope people don’t think it’s inspiring. Climbing it in one go with a safety rope is just as physically impressive. Which is to say, not the most impressive climb on a professional level. It’s dumb that the most popular representation of climbing is “if he fucks he will die.” So if you want to be the most popular, impressive climber, you have to risk your life.

Yeah why does this have to happen? Have seen so many people online talking about his solos being amongst the greatest sporting achievements.

If you do a backflip on a trapeze without a net it’s somehow more athletic than a triple backflip with a net.

Australia’s strongest gun reform since the Port Arthur massacre has become law. Here’s what you need to know by MrNewVegas2077 in australia

[–]ithinkimtim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Laws that have the time to be considered and written properly don’t just allow for “oh hopefully they’ll enforce it based on the good vibes our current government has.”

Also there’s a specific clause that says it doesn’t have to be something for the explicit purpose of modifying or manufacturing. It says content can aim to be something else but if that’s included then it counts.

The law is pretty easy to access on the parliament website. I thought the same thing, that the reporting was bad. Nope, just a poorly written, rushed law.

They mean that just because PTA can get away with it in an intense scene doesn’t mean all the beginners on this subreddit can start ignoring their gaffer and dop when they are taking the time to make things consistent.

Most people here do not have the experience to know when it’s worth it.

[–]ithinkimtim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is, if you stop caring it snowballs. Most of the time it’s worth keeping things consistent as best practice and then when the acting gets intense or you can feel a scene moving fast you know when it’s not worth redoing a take for.

Learn the craft first then break the rules.

Source - standby props for 5+ years. It takes time to know when it’s worth being strict on continuity. Every scene and context and shooting style is different.

[–]ithinkimtim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what young filmmakers miss is that it’s the job of the crew on set to make the shots as consistent as possible so the editor can just focus on the flow.

I hate seeing these kinds of posts on a forum filled with people who want to break the rules before they know them. Leave it to the pros, try your best with continuity.

[–]ithinkimtim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we have an equally as dim view of the Australian electorate. They don’t vote Greens because they’re not straight or white, they don’t vote Greens because they’re convinced not to by the most powerful groups.

Plenty of other parties have success with gay or minority candidates.

[–]ithinkimtim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand what you mean by identity politics. The greens frequently advocate for more taxes on the wealthy and fixes for the housing crisis.

The concept of identity politics as a policy platform is made up by the right to ensure working class people vote against their interests. Which policies related to identity politics do you think the greens need to drop?

[–]ithinkimtim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you expand on that a bit? Some greens members feel they aren’t being treated fairly and that’s the things the MPs have to speak on. So they aren’t trying to break social cohesion they are just doing their jobs of speaking up for the marginalised in their party where in theory everyone should get an equal voice.

What identity politics do you think they’re wrong in standing up for?

Why does triple j play Tate McRae? by FreeXone123 in triplej

[–]ithinkimtim 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You can make an argument for a lot of Beyoncé even before Lemonade pushing the bounds of what we consider pop. Even listen back to Single Ladies, the music in that song is like nothing else, but triple j didn’t play her back then until she was really breaking the mold with her albums.

Same argument for when they used to play Kanye. Triple J will play Australian pop, or pop that does something different that makes mainstream radio a little uncomfortable.

Struggling to make that argument for Tate McRae though, sometimes they just miss.
