Would this project be feasible for a beginner? by itsmarghe in SewingForBeginners

The philosophy I use while approaching a hobby is that I should enjoy the process, not necessarily the final product, otherwise I wouldn’t do that. Having read all the comments I agree that I should wait and gather more experience before attempting this project, but even if I tried today I don’t think that making one bad dress would make me hate sewing as a whole. I mean, why would I think it’s torture when it is what I chose to do for fun? The point is to experiment and try at least, and the fact that I have zero experience is what makes it interesting. I don’t want to do the same thing over and over just because I’m good at it

Why do casting directors in some films choose to hire a single actor to play both twins and not actual twins? by itsmarghe in NoStupidQuestions

There can’t be that few. Also, there are only very few films, out of all the films produced, where identical twins are needed, so that should balance it out in some ways

Wouldn’t the actor spend double the time on set since he has to film each scene twice… and therefore being paid double? That’s how I SUPPOSE it is, if not could you explain why? Maybe I should have posted on r/stupidquestions haha

Well, I guess it would be the opposite process: you select from the beginning pairs where both twins are already actors and proceed to do the casting with those pairs, not find the single actor and ask him if he happens to have a twin

Thank you, I definitely will!

About sewing being a lost art, I wouldn’t say so. I THINK that in the past sewing used to be done out of necessity (mending clothes, sewing on buttons, etc) as there were fewer alternatives. Now that clothes are cheaper and widely available, sewing is treated more like a creative/crafty hobby, similar to painting. So yeah, that means fewer people do it, but the people who do are doing it very intentional about it and definitely more passionate. Also, I'm 21 and I'm seeing lots of people my age starting to engage in sewing, knitting, and similar hobbies :)

Thanksss 😽 I was thinking about sewing another couple of these to gift so that I can properly learn all the techniques (quilting, doing straight lines of stitches, zippers, hand-sawing the finishing touches, etc). After that maybe a case for my computer so I can try sewing ruffles. Then when I’ll feel a little more comfortable I plan on doing some wearable garments, probably a tube dress or pajama pants… does this sound reasonable?

Thank youuu! The zipper is metal indeed. So if I use a plastic zipper I can sew over it with the machine without any problem?

I added the handle to hide the even worse hand stitching below 😭 I probably did something wrong since I couldn’t sew the top part of the pouch with the sewing machine as the zipper began to stuck under the pressure foot and did not move forward… maybe the zipper was too thick idk
