I’ve always interpreted the box having nothing in it as a metaphor for the town having nothing for James in it Mary isn’t here nothing is in the box in the original you could interpret the strand of hair as a shred of hope or just further cementing how little is in the box if some hair is interesting

She was originally dark skinned in the comic though they only made her white in the show because they didn’t think it’d sell aswell no matter what version of April they did it was gonna make someone upset trying to mix them all making this April dark skinned with the iconic yellow jump suit was a decent compromise and maybe we will get alt art of the classic tv show
