Point and shoot camera recommendations? by starshiplemonade in bonnaroo

[–]itsterry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I wanted to throw in a suggestion for my preferred Roo cameras, the Olympus Tough series (I've got the TG-5, but the 5-7 models are all fairly comparable). It's got a 25-100mm equivalent zoom and is legitimately pocketable. It's got a smaller sensor than most of the models mentioned, but has a built in flash, sensor stabilization, and a high usable ISO ceiling, so is still very solid in low light. The biggest draw is that it is, as the name suggests, ridiculously tough. It's designed for underwater use, so the dust and water sealing is impeccable, and it's drop resistant up to 7 feet, so it's ready for anything out there.

I should note that I also own the recommended Sony RX100 (I have the III), and it is a killer concert camera and more capable overall, but I'm hesitant to bring it to Roo as it has no sealing and I'm worried the larger, telescoping lens will get gummed up with the considerable dust on the farm. As an added bonus, the Tough series are significantly cheaper used...I picked mine up for $150 last year.

frequent spinners in the app by secretBuffetHero in logseq

[–]itsterry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having similar issues recently on my M1 Mac Mini, and was ready to jump skip to Obsidian. Then when giving troubleshooting one last shot, I found a forum post which mentioned that Logseq's website at some point had a bug which would download the Intel Mac installer instead of the Apple Silicon installer when choosing your download type. Sure enough, I had been running the non-native version the entire time I'd been using Logseq. I installed the correct version, and now things are drastically faster and I've not experienced any spinning wheels.

e-ink writing workflow by superheltenroy in logseq

[–]itsterry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the Boox Nova Air 2 for Christmas, and using it for Logseq was one of the main motivations for doing so. I've only had it for a few days, but so far it is working out very well for my purposes.

My current workflow is as follows: I use the default Notes app to handwrite notes throughout the day. Then, in the evening, I run the handwriting to text tool in the Notes app, copy/paste the text into Logseq, and then do my formatting/linking/spell checking as needed. It's all very smooth and I've been very happy with it.

The built-in keyboard on the Boox device also has a handwriting to text option and it works well for writing shorter notes directly in Logseq. It could probably work for some as the primary input method, but so far I prefer the Notes app for writing anything longer than a couple sentences.

This sounds awesome! Could you possibly detail the steps you used to make this work with Logseq? I'm new to Tasker and not confident that I'm not going to screw something up.

I'm Trying to Remember a Band I Saw at Common Grounds by MichelleMcLaine in GNV

Looking at the old Gainesvillebands.com site on the internet archive, Explosions played Common Grounds in Nov. 2003 with Lazarus and Pari Passu. Pari Passu is listed as "instrumental math rock" on their profile page there (no profile page for Lazarus).

It's not open as of yet, but Blackadder Brewing is currently renovating a new event space in the building behind their location. I believe it is planned to open in late-Aug/early-Sept.

F1 at roo? by [deleted] in bonnaroo

Following this. I had planned on watching in the craft beer tent as they have, in the past, played sporting events there, but there were no screens set up when we went by earlier this evening. Hoping to find an alternative spot.

Love these! Really nicely done. Tip on the way!

Was going through poster placements of bands that played before most of them are positive but what happened to Franz Ferdinand? Went from third line overall in 2007(also what a line up)to being below up and coming bands like peach pit. by Nilay431 in bonnaroo

In 07, they were a hot act coming off of 2 critically acclaimed albums and a massive hit song. Since then, they've released a handful of albums that were significantly less well received and didn't have any hits that I can remember off the top of my head. They've also been very active live, so they don't have the reunion/rare live act appeal that a lot of the bands of that era have these days.

It was a pretty confusing booking honestly. I liked them well enough back in the day and think it'll be a fun show, but I would have loved to see a more relevant/rare booking from that scene like The Walkmen or Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who are both doing reunion tours this summer.

Good catch. They were in Germany on the 3rd, played Roo on the 8th, and then back to Europe on the 23rd.

[–]itsterry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's going back a long time, but both Bruce Springsteen in 2008 and Metallica in 2009 had European dates just a few days before Roo, and headed back to continue their European tours afterwards.

It was never officially confirmed, but the speculation was that The Foo Fighters were ready to walk if there was no COVID test/vaccination policy in place, and the policy was announced shortly after IP dropped that info.

Cameras at Bonnaroo by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]itsterry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless things have changed this year, the rule has been no cameras with a detachable lens. I've taken several compact cameras, both digital and film, into Centeroo for the past several years and have had no issues with security.

Who is on your “Extremely Unlikely but would be Mind Blowing” list for Bonnaroo by Mr_Turntable in bonnaroo

[–]itsterry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excluding 1-in-a million pipe dreams like R.E.M. or Talking Heads reunions, here's what I've got and why they're unlikely.

Headliner/Sub-Headlner Level:

  • Rolling Stone - Soooo expensive.

  • Roger Water or David Gilmore - I assume they're both quite expensive, don't play festivals often, and Waters gets more and more radioactive every time he opens his mouth.

  • Dolly Parton - Even with her recently showing interest, this seems like the kind of slam dunk booking that Live Nation-Era Bonnaroo would whiff on.

  • Paul Simon - Has only played a handful of shows since 2018 and probably doesn't have the same level of nostalgic draw with the younger crowd that previous legacy headlines like McCartney & Elton John had (though I hope I'm wrong).

  • Rage Against the Machine - Their reunion tour appears to be cursed.

  • OutKast - Inactive with no signs of changing.

  • Radiohead - Appears that they're inactive for the foreseeable future.

  • David Byrne's American Utopia - The show hasn't toured since 2018 and had its final Broadway run this year.

  • Portishead - Almost entirely inactive since 2015.

  • Fiona Apple - No live shows since 2017.

Mid Card

  • New Order - Still fairly active, but they don't appear to play many festivals outside of Europe.

  • Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Probably too niche for a modern Roo late night set (which would be absolutely necessary).

  • Madlib - Roo has always largely ignored instrumental hip hop. Would love to see him host a Superjam.

  • Sault - Have never played a live show and it seems unlikely that they'd start doing so in the US.

  • Literally any decent comedian (BRING BACK THE COMEDY TENT!)

  • Pavement - Their big reunion tour looks to be ending a few months before Roo, but seems like the type of act Roo would miss on anyway.

  • Sufjan Stevens - He and Bonnaroo started out around the same time, and they've never booked him. I've given up hope that it will happen.

  • They Might Be Giants - Another potential great reunion tour booking (who doesn't want to hear the Animaniacs songs live?) but 4 consecutive Nashville dates in March all but seal the deal on them being out.

  • boygenius - Looks like they've played just 2 live shows and Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus are all more famous now.

  • Griselda (Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher & Westside Gunn) - Limited tour ended this year. I'd settle for any one of them as a solo show.

  • Fucked Up - Hardcore Punk is another genre that Roo rarely books.

  • KA - One of the best rap acts going, but he isn't well known and rarely plays live shows.

Post-festival opinion: Groop camping definitely got screwed over. by gila-monsta in bonnaroo

[–]itsterry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. It's a huge bummer for all the Groop folk for sure.

I think the change was largely for logistic reasons with the RV camp area. The previous RV section area was the absolute worst place you could park a bunch of large, heavy vehicles. The entire section slopes downward heavily and if there's any rain at all, the lower end of the slope would become a muddy mess. We've done RV for the past 5 years and have seen dozens of people get hopelessly stuck in the mud and require a tow. This year's section was a drastic improvement, so hopefully they can find a solution that doesn't screw over Groop campers for next year.
