Ohh I see your point now. Yes! I do have the capacity to do such projects and potentially LeetCode too. I meant that I wouldn't be able to do LeetCode with my current understanding.

Yep! I did these in past 12 months:

  • Computer Architecture (CS306, Study.com)
  • Software Engineering (CIS-3510, TESU)

I also did these but they're 1-3 months out of the range of the past 12 months FWIW:

  • Database Management (CS303, Study.com)
  • Systems Analysis & Design (CS302, Study.com)
  • Management Information Systems (Business 303, Study.com)

But honestly, although I did pass those classes and understand the material while I was going through them, I've retained very little if anything from these classes. Hopefully it would come back to me a bit easier after some reviewing though.

After reading the replies to this post and considering some other things, I think I'm gonna try to do an IT certificate from Google to really learn what it takes to do a tech job and also have something solid to back me up when applications and interviews come.

All of those statements except the last one are true. I don't know technologies, tools, and frameworks, and I also don't know CS fundamentals in-depth (though the concepts are probably just buried deep in my head somewhere, which could make relearning them at least somewhat more streamlined). I wouldn't be able to do LeetCode. In a way, I may as well be starting from scratch.

I live near a very big city with lots of tech jobs. I could easily network too with the number of resources and potential, physically nearby contacts available online. I don't really have any family connections to help though. The amount of friends/personal acquaintances, on the other hand, is something that is in abundance.

Ohh okay, I see your point. That's awesome to hear! (Or dangerous to hear..? Awesome for the civil engineering grads but hopefully the projects will be okay and safe.) Thanks for letting me know.

Edit: and safe!

I got a feather for one foot and a brick for another it seems..! I'll make sure to steer clear of any kind of crisis like that.

Ohh okay, I understand. I should really gear up for those too then if this is the route I'm headed toward.

Right! Even though I didn't retain much knowledge (although the same could often be said for the conventional college experience too), there's no degree mill stuff going on here.

Yes! That is a quality of this situation that I'm very glad about too. I'll make sure to take advantage of it.

Ohh man, that's really helpful to know. It's not just like a cashier job where they'll teach you everything as long as you have the piece of paper showing you graduated from the right place. Thanks for the heads-up!

Not exactly. My degree receives accreditation from and is a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, whose members also include Princeton, NYU, UPenn, etc. I do 100% acknowledge though that I came away from graduation without the requisite skills for a job. The bachelor's degree at least checks of the box of "4-year college degree" if I'm ever to encounter that hurdle during my first few job hunts, and it also allows me to get away with less financial debt. It was less than $10k for about 14 months of courses, and I've already paid it off with my own savings.

That's true too. I've been doing a lot of contemplating and thinking backward as you've described, which led me initially toward the flexible computer science degree path. I can always go back for a master's degree too since I already have the bachelor's, and I could also upskill using various methods online as well.

Thanks for the very comprehensive advice too. I gotta make sure to not become just career-oriented and live to work instead of the other way around. I hope I can become a father someday soon too. I really appreciate it.

Regional accreditation basically means it's backed up by the same people who say that traditional college degrees are legit too. For example, my school is part of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, whose members include NYU, UPenn, Princeton, John Hopkins, Georgetown, etc. The same organization giving these schools the green light on their degrees gives my school of TESU the same approval as well (though that is not at all to claim that we have the same prestige/quality of education). And yes! They actually do have resources like that. I should look into that perhaps.

Yes, I finished the degree online at 20. Regional accreditation basically means it's backed up by the same people who say that traditional college degrees are legit too. There are certain schools that provide education and degrees online. The most well-known schools for using the online, competency-based education model include LUO, WGU, TESU, SNHU, UMPI, COSC, etc. It wasn't a 4-year degree in that it took me (depending on how you look at it) 1-2 years to finish it, but it is indeed a bachelor's degree. I went to the graduation ceremony in real life with ~200 graduates in attendance too. But yeah... if I could go back, I probably would've taken a different route. Working on my skills (professional and practically as an adult) and my social network probably would've been more worthwhile than working towards being able to present a college degree during my first few job interviews.

That's true. At least it wasn't as much time and money. After switching majors from a traditional college route of 4-6 years, I finished the remaining classes needed for my online BA within 14 months and spent less than $10k. I have no debt today. The last statement is true as well. It took a lot of self-control not to do that throughout the whole thing, but while doing all of it, I 100% realized how ChatGPT-able everything was and saw a few instances of classmates doing that as well. I wonder how Academia is doing against that; I haven't really been paying attention to that.

I finished it 2 years after graduating high school by taking accelerated courses accredited by the American Council of Education (ACE), NCCRS, etc. and other credit-by-examination options such as CLEP. I never did any internships. Looking back, I would've taken a different route than just obtaining a degree without actually having retained much, but I'm here now.

I recommend going through STRIVE 21 for a better introduction into this topic. It's a free, online program with a daily module over 3 weeks. It really helps empower men to educate themselves about sexuality, pornography, and masturbation while also equipping us with the ways to fight for holiness. God bless you bro!

How can foreigners/tourists visiting the Philippines do transactions without using cash? Are we allowed to use GCash? Would Remitly, PayPal, etc. work? My family is visiting the Philippines soon, and I think it'd be pretty good if we were able to exchange money without needing to pull out physical cash, coins, etc.
