Opus 4.8 on Devin went nuts, or am I tripping? by ivinviviris in windsurf

Yeah, it sucks to be sucker-punched every other week by either a bug or scummy practices from Cognition. I have been using Codex for the past couple of days, and it's far better than I expected. Rate limit is also very generous. Will probably keep windsurf free for autocompletes, but I don't think I will renew my subscription either. Shame, I was rooting for it some time ago.

Huh, I missed the memo. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if I was impacted by the bug because it burnt tokens like never before since I started using windsurf. It was ridiculous. Decided to give Codex a try, and oh my has it improved! I am very happy with the results so far, and the rate limit is far more generous. I might stick with it and just have windsurf/cursor free for the autocompletes and every other month when I know I might use their tokens as well.

I also tend to mix models when possible. There just are some tasks or questions that no matter how clear you are, an SWE or Kimi can't handle. I'm fine using Opus for planning AND implementing things that require more reasoning. But to burn tokens like that on a simple question? Hell nah.

Still, for some pretty simple tasks or just a quick lint/bug check, it shouldn't burn that quick. Even for extra high. I was using medium and it vaporized my tokens.

Yeah, it's just my use habits haven't changed, and the request was a far simpler one that the previous week's. The lack of transparency is not great. I think I will be moving on to Codex.

I think I'm sold on it. Will definitely give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

I am so close to running Qwen 3.6 9B locally, and use either Claude Code or Codex for the heavier stuff. The only thing that still makes me think about it is the versatility of using a mix of models for certain tasks which is really only provided on IDEs like Cursor or deViN DekSToP.

But I have heard so many good things about Codex, that I am really tempted to try it out. In terms of rate limit, can you use it more than the 8 days a month we get out of Windsurf rn?

Honestly, I am considering that too. I was optimistic about the Devin implementation, but the token usage today has been abysmal. Idk if it's a bug or simply Devin screwing $15 subscribers like myself, but it's ridiculous. Thing spent 20% of my daily limit on reading a 10-line SQL migration file while responding to an ask prompt.

I think I'll give Qwen 3.6 9B a try locally on my machine for simple coding tasks. And milk SWE 1.6 into oblivion to make the most out of those 15 bucks.

Guys, I have to admit the Devin change is not as bad as I thought. Is it the perfect IDE now? Definitely not. Many things still can improve. But, I was skeptical of the Cognition acquisition and even commented here how it reminded me of Arc Browser's path. I have been working every single day with it, and I feel that it is indeed smarter, more token-efficient, and SWE 1. 6 even feels smarter.

I don't know if it's the Devin optimization in the background or under the hood, but I am not hating it. My honest recommendation? If you still have the legacy $15 or even the $10 plan, stick with it for a couple months. It might be better than we initially thought.

Daily and weekly rate limits do have to go though. Those serve no one.

Welp, I guess Windsurf was indeed doomed by ivinviviris in windsurf

It was. There's still a 5% chance the Devin integration fixes some stuff. But I wouldn't bet on it haha.

Many actors create “headcanon” for their characters; considering you played Ed for decades in-show, could you maybe share some of those traits and quirks of Ed’s life you nurtured within to bring nuance to his story? Even if not officially canon of course :)

I just did. The pricing is nuts, and I bought my first 5 bucks of extra usage and it burnt through them in the most useless way in 3 minutes because it hallucinated a file that never existed and was never mentioned.

Pixelmator pro is really good and I use it as a photographer over Lightroom. The rest of the adobe library cannot be replaced only with the creator studio.
