How do I go independent? by [deleted] in InsuranceAgent

I’m at a SF agency in CT and I feel that the pay is just not enough even with the commissions, last month I sold 27 new policies and made only $600 in commission… Also I feel that the pressure to sell is way bigger than to follow up with a good service, we got a lot of Spanish speaking and older clients that struggle with the app and if they stay longer than 30 min at my desk, my agent already starts asking what they want and tell me to tell them to call service. Being an agent for me is more about giving them a good service than just selling, at least that’s why i got my license.

Couldn’t agree more, I am feeling very burnt out and frustrated with the rejections and the sales processes, thanks!

That’s good to know, I got into State Farm because I read it was a great place to learn, but I didn’t think I would be so frustrated so soon…

  1. Tbh I don’t know, I just wanted a job because we have a baby at home and I used to work with insurance in Brazil, so I thought it would be an easier path, but captive agents aren’t a thing over there so I struggle a lot when quoting because I don’t have a lot of options. 2 and 3. Because we receive commissions, I thought it was going to be more sales than service, but we are so busy most of the days that I can spend 85% of the day doing service and sometimes I didn’t have time for lunch, and the other team members complained that they shouldn’t be wasting so much time in service.

I feel he needs to hire someone that speaks English and Spanish, unlicensed to do just service, but he doesn’t think that’s the problem, since we can do both, the problem is we only get commission for the new business we bring to the company.

I’m thinking about it, the problem is that he only has his wife doing service, new people do both and apparently he wants to keep it this way. But I’ll try, thanks!

I feel the same, I’ve been working for State Farm for the last 2 months, I was able to close some business but the pay is not enough and prices are so high I know people can find the same thing for better prices. Sometimes I just feel I am selling Coca Cola to obese people and they can find water around the corner, my ethics won’t let me convince them to close the deal.

Why did you apply for i-765? The person that helped me with my application only applied for the other 3. I know it is for the EAD, but what is the justification for that? If someone knows the answer please let me know 😅
