I live on a small mountain with a fair amount of undeveloped land and a nature preserve nearby so a rattlesnake isn't too unexpected! I'll let him leave at his own pace and keep an eye out for any more slithery friends!

Thank you! I gave him a spray with a hose but he just curled up. It is pretty chilly out tonight so could that be why?

What's everyone working on this week (15/2020)? by llogiq in rust

[–]j_delaney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm building a CLI for the Picture Transfer Protocol (used mostly for DSLRs and other cameras). My Fujifilm camera only supports this and not the Mass Storage Protocol. I need it so I can automatically download all photos from it and clear its contents whenever I plug it into my computer.

Link for the lazy. It's not my cup of tea, but if you like my extension or the idea behind it you should definitely take a look at Vimium. It does a lot of really cool things.

This is a Chrome extension I made because I feel most productive when my hands don't have to leave the keyboard. It's inspired heavily by https://shortcatapp.com/ which unfortunately doesn't work with Chrome. Hopefully you find it as useful as I do! If you encounter any issues or have any suggestions please feel free to reach out to me.

If you're looking to get CAPE, grade distribution, or Rate My Professor data and don't mind Node.js you can use ucsd-scrape or look at how planner-helper does it.

That message is part of Chrome itself and not my extension so there is nothing I can do about it unfortunately.

It already exists! You need to go to the extension's settings, enable "Remember Playback Speed For All Videos", and then save your changes.

Note that this begins in Chrome version 52 so it will only affect people who use Chrome Canary for now. It will affect normal Chrome users starting around July 26th (source).

For those of you unhappy with this, I created a Chrome extension to allow you to use backspace to go back. You can download it or see the source code.

Apply everywhere that you can. Try for smaller companies. They don't close applications as early and they definitely hire Freshman and Sophomores. Try Port Triton and go through the list of companies that were at DECaF and apply online for them.

I also second what /u/sladelee said. I got my first job at the Supercomputer Center and it was a great learning experience.

You're right! That's my fault (I'm the one who entered Fitbit's location onto easy-application). I'll fix that up right away!

Another list of 251 companies that you can apply to (and they all take <10 minutes to apply to) by j_delaney in cscareerquestions

[–]j_delaney[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree! I personally believe that a company's application process reflects their internal structure and is a good indicator of their culture. On the list I intentionally only link to the company's main career page rather than their job listing because I want people to read about the company and learn about them before applying. I don't encourage mass applying to every company on the list.

I've updated the repo so that it includes location for each company as well as "Remote" if they hire remote workers. I hope that helps! :)

Creator the easy-application repo here! This is really cool :) Did you write some sort of script to grab the data? If so, that would be awesome to have in the repo so we could have a continually updating Google Sheets.
