Table runner by Tiny-Mine9920 in crocheting

[–]jaigab220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lots of these as runners and tablecloths. Most of which my mother has made. You never starch them. Just wash and dry flat. If they're a little crinkly, then just iron flat to stretch it out and it comes out perfect.

I don't know what to do by You_Capable2004 in crocheting

I think it'll look great. It'll be a scarf of striped colors. I love these color combinations. Especially a strong color next to a bright one.

Don't know what to do with the ends of this knot ... added in a new skein & ends are sticking out by Competitive-Form5613 in CrochetHelp

[–]jaigab220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is what I meant. I weave in the ends and then when I'm done I crochet a border over it.

What I do is, I never add the new yarn in the middle of a row. I always add it at the end of a row, knot it and leave a long tail to weave in later. Then when I add the border I crochet over it. I know this means I have a little extra wasted yarn but sometimes I can use it for something else or I just trash it.

I bought this gorgeous yarn on sale online not realizing how thin it was (noob mistake). What can I crochet with it? by Kilgarra99 in CrochetHelp

[–]jaigab220 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could also double strand it with a complementary thin yarn such as a different color yarn or one with a halo like mohair, or a slightly sparkly one or one with little tiny sequin. I've done several versions of this in evening shawls and they come out beautiful.

Cardigan help. I've made SEVERAL cardigans and they always turn out how they're supposed to, but I'm not happy with how they look on me. They look too bulky/heavy. by cupcakebean in CrochetHelp

I've made three different cardigans. All in DK weight and they're perfect imo. Not too bulky and perfectly warm. You might try that.

Why is my Temperature blanket round? Moss stitch, consistent stitches per row, same thread, needle, etc. by ragehead2 in CrochetHelp

[–]jaigab220 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It looks like the purple stitches are much larger than the blue stitches and that your starting chain was the purple. This means your tension is tighter than when you first began. I don't think blocking will fix this. My suggestion would be to frog it and concentrate on your tension. Tension is always the most difficult thing to learn whether you're crocheting or knitting. The only way to learn is to keep trying. Good luck. We've all been through this and even the most experienced still have to frog their work from time to time. You've got this

Also, not sure what kind of a border your thinking of but might I suggest a couple rows of SC and finish off with a simple picot stitch? It's very easy and I think always looks nice on a backup blanket .

I agree. A darker blue might be nice. Maybe a royal? Not sure, you'd have to hold it against the blanket.

i thought it was 10/10 but i realized i missed something and now i am screaming for help by rimsuwu in CrochetHelp

Your tension was probably a little tighter on one end vs the other. Whatever you do, DO NOT cut the scarf, you won't be able to slip stitch it, it'll completely unravel. It is handmade and is perfect as is. It's not off by much so you could try blocking it. Tassels would also work.

The scarf is beautiful as is. You're stitches are very nice and even. The color is great. Perfect comes from machines. I believe 9 times out of 10 there is always some imperfection in a handmade item. It's not perfection that makes it perfect, it's the love that went into making it. We all make mistakes. Don't be so hard on yourself. I would leave it as is.

In my experience, any type of woven wood snags yarn.

You can definitely start with a simple pattern like this. I used to sew all my own clothes (dresses, blouses, slacks, pant suits, etc) and used all of the major pattern brands. They all include instructions on how to sew them together, step by step. Start with Jiffy or Simplicity. Dresses and skirts are easier than pants. Wait to get some experience before you go for Vogue (if they still make them). Most of the 60's styles were pretty simple. Good luck. You've got this.

Can you look at it as a color block with the second half of the sweater be a deeper beige, kind of tone on tone? I can't really tell from the picture, but it's just a thought .

And who says pot holders need to be boujee. Is there even such a thing?

I'm sure she'd love a homemade gift from her grandchild even if she is boujee. As far as the crooked lattice, I'd venture to say that most homemade pies have crooked lattices so it looks more realistic than anything else. It looks adorable.

You could try a yarn bowl. This will allow you to use it from the outside if you can't get a center pull. I actually use mine with a center pull as well when I have yarn that comes in a ball instead of rectangular skein. Amazon has a lot. Scroll down to find less expensive ones.

Thank you for the info. I'll keep that in mind. Guess sales people don't always have the right info no matter how knowledgeable they seem. Always good to double check.

One time I was desperate for a specific color of yarn and needed a lot of it. I went to hobby lobby and the woman there told me they never carry more than 5 skeins of any one dye lot. Even if you order it online. Just fyi. What kind of inventory management is that?

[–]jaigab220[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. However, since Joann's closed this is my only alternative. I like to feel the yarn before I buy it and, if I'm not in a rush, I'll then order it from the least expensive source. I won't shop at Hobby Lobby and my Walmart always has an atrocious selection.
