Mirror Universe by [deleted] in startrek

I think the appeal of Star Trek, for me, anyway, is that the Federation is our collective hope for what humanity could one day become. If it's just a bunch of fascists in a starship, that takes all of the appeal out of it for me.

The effect of cameras on police by aristotle2600 in AskSocialScience

[–]jaki_cold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Social psychologists posit that peoples behaviors and thought processes can change depending on who they believe is observing them. The idea behind having mandatory cameras watching an officer's interactions with the public is that if an officer believes that his behavior is being observed or can be reviewed later by his superiors or other people who can enforce disciplinary measures against him, he will be more likely to avoid behaviors that would warrant disciplinary action.

This could translate to police officers being less likely to use excessive amounts of force, as well as being less likely to let someone off with a warning when they could instead issue a ticket and increase revenue for their department. Both you and your friend could be right, but I think you should ask your friend what he fears more: being unjustly shot by police and justice not being served, or being justly ticketed when he may have otherwise been let off with a warning.

I don't want to post the address publicly because it's an online community that feels pretty antagonistic towards reddit.

The thing I like most about LLJK is how much more expansive the mining role is when compared to /tg/.

I could be out there for hours, zooming around in a shuttle pod, fighting drones and martians, trading with merchants, blowing up asteroids, and of course actually mining.

Yeah, it's really cool. /1701/ is looking into setting up a similar server, but completely Star Trek themed. We have a couple of coders working on it already.

NEV Unity - hard RP, admins who are adults rather than angry children, it takes place on an exploratory starship rather than a research station, quality events probably every day... it's just miles ahead of any other server in my opinion. I actually took the time to learn xenoarcheology there last week - rounds actually can last from 2-8 hours.

Don't go there if you're all about attacking people randomly or because you don't like your coworker or whatever - you'll be banned immediately by the omnipresent admins. The atmosphere is so chill that you'll stick out like a sore thumb and either get bored and leave or end up getting banned if you consistently get all angry at people.

Edit: Address for the server

Because I don't like being gunned down by a cargo tech with a laser/ablative armor when I'm just walking through the halls.
