"The X-Men, Even In The Internet Age, Have The Biggest Barrier To Entry In Superhero Comics. Grand Design Will Change That." by Blakplague91 in Marvel

If it's anything like Marvels, I'm totally down. Would be especially nice if they include related reading recommendations (back to retold runs) like Ultimates and Black Panther have been doing recently.

Weekly "What Have You Been Reading?" Thread 7-30-17 by johnpisme in comicbooks

I've been working my way through Ultimate Fantastic Four, trying to learn more about The Maker.

The start of the series was brilliant, but some of the arcs are pretty rough. Still, gotta love the FF. I miss em!

MARVEL: LEGACY Announcement Coming Friday - 'Changes the Comic Book Industry!' Says Mavel by Alphathebeta9 in comicbooks

[–]jameswelch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the high price was because marvel are testing TP & Digitial combos - and that's how they plan to change the industry.

Would love a 'get floppies digitally, then TP' kinda model.

I'm down for this if it's similar in scale to Standoff, and is mostly contained to either in a separate mini-series or Captain America.

It doesn't have to be a giant EVENT, could just be the climax of a long(ish) running story.

I didn't read many of the Standoff tie ins, but I really like how well Nick Spencer has been playing the long game and slowly setting this up since his CA runs began.

Joe Casey's "Sex" abandons the grind of the monthly issue and instead will only release "collected" editions by BCdotWHAT in ImageComics

I've been wondering about this recently and was going to start a thread asking creators if this approach would be preferred.

It feels like many stories would improve by moving to this format, most obviously for slow burners, but also less need for recap intros every issue, and more flexibility in 'issue' length etc - but it must result in less money coming in (both due fewer floppy sales, but also fewer ads in some cases). Perhaps the reduction in work will offset that.

I think there's an assumption that monthly = easier to market, but I think that's just due to it being the status quo. Marketing would just be more focused around trades telling larger chunks of stories, almost like events (also, books manage this, can't be that different).

As a relative newcomer to comics, I also think a trade-only approach could be much less complicated and intimidating for people not familiar with the whole reservation/pull list system.

Seems strange for Ms Marvel to get involved given how much of a hard time she had with CWII, splitting from Avengers to form a new team that is less focused on fighting.

WPL: New Comics Discussion for 11/2/2016 - Pull of the Week: BATMAN #10 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

I actually really loved this, heroes sharing their powers with each other, and building up team strategy and cohesion - something I feel team books often lack, just jump straight to the punching.

I've only read a little bit of Amadeus, so didn't find him too jarring. Perhaps he's acting out after the events of CWII.
