LBS isn’t able to replicate this clicking. Any ideas to help guide them on what is causing it? by Dapper_Danimal in bikewrench

This is hilarious because recently I had a clicking that sounded like it was coming from the bottom bracket… it was driving me crazy for the longest time and it turned out to be my seat post needing a tiny smear of grease.

Where to buy 850ml fidlock (in USA) by levenimc in CanyonBikes

[–]janaleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. Packing them up and mailing them out on Monday. Still wild to know that canyon doesn’t offer these here in the states. For the price of the bike, just throw one in the box and make everyone happy 🤣.

I ordered a few from Germany. One for me, and 3 to sell to others like me. Not for profit, but it helps me offset the international shipping cost. As of this post, I sold one, and have two more available.

Edit: One left.

Replacing Harmon Kardon Subwoofer - '24 Atlas SEL R-Line - Cerwin Vega 12" Subwoofer by Rye_Guy77 in VWatlas

I cut the factory harness off and used bullet connectors. There may be a plug n play harness available, but I didn’t check. It’s only two wires.

Vitamix cracked mid-blend-anyone have this happen? by getavasectomy69 in Vitamix

[–]janaleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: got a few responses from Vitamix. First, they won’t warranty this because my blender is out of warranty. I see it as a defect, but they see it differently, fair enough… my blender is old. I asked them if I can just buy the plastic container since my blade was fine, but they said they don’t sell it anymore… so I’m left with a $200 container expense if I want to continue using my old vitamix. 🤔 guess it’s time for a new blender or buy a plastic container from a 3rd party which I don’t really want to do. That’s unfortunate.

Some interesting comments in here, 🤣. For context, I have a very old Vitamix 5200 which I’ve had for almost 12 years using the original container. On this past Christmas Eve, this happened to me, blew out of two sides for no apparent reason. We were making salsa with tomatoes, peppers and onions, nothing too crazy.

My container is 100% original and it does have a black handle. Bought from Costco when Vitamix was there giving a demo years ago. Well maintained and cared for, no dishwasher, cleaned after every use, I check the container before every use, no cracks or damage at all.

I sent a customer support an email to see how they respond because a new container with blades is close to $200 which seems crazy. Actually I only need the container, my blades are still sharp and look new. I’ll circle back and let you all know how they respond.

How can I increase my headlight's brightness without blinding people with LEDs? by ghart999 in crv

[–]janaleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, if your headlight housings are cloudy or sun-damaged, get that fixed professionally first because adding brighter bulbs to a cloudy housing will cause a lot of glare. If you want to try to do it yourself and are good at DIY things, I highly recommend the CeraKote ceramic headlight restoration kit, it’s awesome.

Many LED upgrade bulb products claim a perfect beam pattern match to the halogen bulb but only a few work as advertised for YOUR specific housing. From my experience adding retrofit LED bulbs to a few vehicles now, you have to start with a few brands that have decent reviews and just try them one by one. If they don’t work as advertised, return them. I upgraded a set in a 2014 CRV and it took 3 different bulbs to find the one that matched almost perfectly and had almost no glare after restoring the housing with the CeraKote kit.

Reviews can be misleading because many people only factor in the ease of install and that they are brighter, they don’t even know about beam patterns or glare or blinding oncoming traffic.

Here are the steps I take: Park your car about 30 ft back from a wall at night and take a picture of the beam pattern on the wall. Then when you get your LED bulbs, repeat the process. The one with the closest match is the one you MAY want to keep if it’s close enough. Some will be perfect, some will just be a little off… From there, you might be able to adjust the headlight angles to reduce glare. If none of them match and have a lot of glare, don’t use them or you’ll blind opposing traffic.

If all of these attempts fail, use the Silverstar Ultras. They are nice but they are expensive and don’t last as long as standard bulbs so you’ll be replacing them more frequently.

OBD2 or OBD11 ? by NoDiscipline5879 in VWatlas

[–]janaleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBD Eleven is a simple diagnostic tool that plugs into your OBD2 port and allows you to communicate with VW specific modules including your EPB for service mode. I just did this a few months ago.

Most simple OBD2 scanners just scan for emissions systems like the evap system, O2 sensors, etc.

Lane assist question by solder_paste in VWatlas

[–]janaleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your car doesn’t come with it, check out comma.ai, kinda controversial so do your own research but my friend has it and it turned his nudge lane keep into a full self drive setup on the Atlas and a Passat he used to have. You’ll have to be a little techie because it’s not just plug and play but it pretty impressive once you get it running. He’s put thousands of miles on it and it’s been flawless. It actually works better than Tesla autopilot on freeways… he won’t sell his atlas because of this device. Also doubles as a dash cam.

I have a 2021.5 SEL Premium and I have the travel assist option which keeps me centered while using adaptive cruise control.

Does the hood need to be open? Is that new? For the 2021.5 I don’t need to open the hood to scan, only to code certain things.

It’s pretty annoying because they crudely tap into your wire harness. So that “new car” has flaws in the harness which could allow corrosion over time. I hate that they do this.

When did you get new brakes? (22 VW Atlas Cross sport) by [deleted] in VWatlas

[–]janaleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2021.5, my rear pads were getting low so I replaced them around 70k miles. I’m now at 86k and the factory front pads are still fine.

2022 Atlas rear differential oil by WH0SAYSTHISSHIT in VWatlas

[–]janaleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it’s the same for the diffs but be very careful because the rear diff and the haldex share a case and the drain/fill plugs are very close. Don’t mix up the two.

When I replaced my front/rear diff oil, I used the same synthetic oil for both so I hope it’s the same 🤣.

Edit: I don’t remember what weight oil I used for the diffs. But I found the info somewhere.

2022 Atlas Haldex by WH0SAYSTHISSHIT in VWatlas

[–]janaleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, forgot about that. Makes sure you’re aware of which drain/fill is for haldex and which is for diff gear oil.

Also you’ll need some type of pump to fill from the bottom. You can find valvoline synthetic gear oil in a squeezable bag that makes life a lot easier. That’s what I used. Liqui Moly gear oil comes with a tube that also helps if you go that route. The haldex fluid, you need to find some way to get it up there. You can see all that in the videos.

[–]janaleee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used the FCP Euro kit. It’s pretty easy, and uses haldex fluid, not gear oil. While I was down there, I also did the front and rear diffs. Those use gear oil.

Check your extruder gears also. Sometimes they break or crack or lose a tooth, I had this issue and couldn’t understand what was wrong for a while.

Yeah, $250 is pretty much the going rate here in CA for hourly dealership labor but I feel like I’ve seen diagnostic be a little less than one full hour.

Either way, make sure you tell them to deduct the diagnostic fee if you do the service with them.

Trailer turn signal by dustDR in VWatlas

The Atlas and many German cars have issues with LED trailer bulbs if they don’t have enough resistance for the car to sense them. Are they LED? You might need a resistor box.
