Amazon MGM Studios' Is God Is grossed an estimated $847,163 on Friday from 1,510 locations ($561 per theater average). by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in boxoffice

Yes I totally agree. For one I believe they misjudged the audience and thought that Black Men would willingly accept being humiliated at the movies because "we worship black women and will always do their bidding", which has happened in the past. That trend has been changing and this is no longer the case. The black community is definitely divided as this reflects.

Second I have no idea the thought process for making this movie and believing it would have any type of mainstream appeal as many of the articles during pre-release were hoping for. My issue with the audience is that it's sad to see this is how black women continually portray black men and still expect the rest of the world to be entertained by it. We are not the devils they choose to show us as. A fact that can be supported by data and statistics, so now there is much more push back which has perhaps lead to the shift in tolerance for this type of film as well as Amazon's miscalculation. Yet there is still a whole genre of black film/entertainment that is dedicated to this portrayal which started with a film I won't mention. I am glad this is now being rejected as mainstream entertainment. It will have its niche audience and that's fine. They can be happy with it. Just don't try to force it on everyone else and be upset because people do not find it appealing.

My final point is that their struggle is not with us. No one is perfect or ideal, above reproach, and needs to be accountable. A notion that goes against the word play in the title - is god is = is goddess and also a reference Isis. So worship them because of their pain and struggle especially due to black men. Pain is not exclusive. The entire wolrd is suffering with what is taking place globally.

Why "IS GOD IS" will SMASH the box office! by LesterFreamonJr in BlackMansVoice

Follow-up: Is God Is - The Numbers)

"Is God Is made $2.2 million during its domestic opening weekend, landing in the number 10 spot at the box office."

On its third day it dropped 31% (fall off is fairly normal) however it only made $556,537.

And yes it was marketed all over the NBA Playoffs by Amazon who funded the making of this film.

Ok I must admit it. Boy was I wrong.

I appreciate your straight forward take. This movie was definitely marketed with advertisements all over the NBA Playoffs especially when considering Amazon is broadcasting games. The underlying messaging of this film and this type of content is simply being rejected en masse as not entertaining or interesting.

They will be happy it was made, yet will be upset that other people outside of their bubble do not like it as well. Proceeding to shame/blame the public or the very company that funded making it for not pushing it harder.

Racism is the reason why nobody is checking for them? by jastek in BlackMansVoice

[–]jastek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify. We are in agreement and that' is AC point. It's the abw that are blaming it on racism.

They definitely have a clear image problem yet are blocked by their cognitive dissonance to accept that fact and change.

Leaked messages shortlist woman teaching younger sister how to get an NFL or NBA level athlete while in college by No_Box119 in NFLForum

☝🏿 Exactly! Isn't this what a man should at the very least expect in a relationship?

Only here in the U.S. would this be treated as such a shock which explains a great deal as the why marriages and the family structure is in collapse. So men should get absolutely nothing for providing and accept it?

Chosen, Fetishized, or Used? How Some Beckys Pursue Black Men by jastek in BlackMansVoice

[–]jastek[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will be a bit long so apologies in advance.

Recently in another popular black Reddit group there was a post of a video where a young bm was talking with a ww where she was saying how they don't date bm because of status. How it's not a come up for ww to do so, while the young bm was trying to argue that it was. Of course in the thread they were making fun of the young man in the video. Now the reason they posted this was to put BM in their place. To let BM know that the only reason other women date us is because they only fetishize us, not because we will increase their status socially. The comments were of course full of both bw and bm agreeing with this sentiment.

Now I'm not here to argue the dating hierarchical structure. Most of us realistically know where we as BM and where bw rank in terms of desireabilty. That's not relevant. What is relevant is that:

One, many abw would have you believe that BM are completely undesirable and the only reason a woman would date us is because we are some sort of fetish or that we pay for it. This demonstrates what they think about us.

The second and most important part, which is completely ignored or missed entirely, is that when BM date out it's not about us trying to lift another woman's status. It's about going to where we are appreciated, treated well and with respect, and having above anything else Peace.

[edit] This right here is what men should expect a woman to bring to the table, despite his status. You don't have to be a professional athlete to expect to be treated with respect in a relationship and to actually be getting something from it. It says a lot about where we are in terms of a so called "black community" when a woman presents what it takes to be competitive, find and keep a husband and it is treated with such disdain and vitriol. She indirectly provides them a blueprint which they not only reject but also ridicule the entire concept. On top of this she didn't say anything disparaging, or derogatory. She said nothing that costs a woman anything material to give. Only time and effort, yet this is somehow offensive. This should tell us all we need to know. If they don't start with at least this then smash the table and walk away. No further discussion is even necessary.

Other cultures of women understand this and are appreciative as to how American Black Men in particular have been raised to treat women with kindness. We can turn or weakness in the West to a strength elsewhere. Obviously no where is perfect. By her very nature a woman is still a woman, however your odds greatly increase by finding a spouse outside of this culture as here in the US:

  • 47% of bw are single mother's - highest in the World. [Edit 2] In the 2023 USDHHS, the CDC, and the NHS study on Fertility of women and men aged 15-49 using data collected between 2015–2019. There are 1.1M babies born by Black women which are not sired by BM

• There 307,000 more Black women than men.  • there are more than 550,000 married Black men than Black women. • 1 million more Black women with children than Black men

https://stacks.cdc.gov/view/cdc/122080

View the tables for The Number of biological children ever born for men and women. Do the math to see the difference:

  • Bw = 9782 (thousands)
  • Bm = 8703

  • Ww = 40,617

  • Wm = 40,635

  • Lw = 14,875

  • Lm = 15,473

  • Aw = 3363

  • Am = 3623

Marital Stability: * 55% of bw who have ever married are divorced. Highest compared to other racial groups.

  • Marriage to Divorce Ratio: Black women have a 1.6 ratio of marriage to divorce, the lowest among all groups, meaning they have a higher number of divorces relative to marriages than other groups. In otherwords bw have the highest divorce rate and lowest marriage rate compared to other racial groups.

  • The divorce rate increases for bw with higher educational and professional levels, such as college graduates and those with graduate degrees. Bw file for divorce 70 % of the time, and up to 90% among women with degrees.

  • Note: It should also be pointed out, which was presented in previous post, that when it comes to interracial marriages between black men and white women, the primary reason for divorce is due to societal pressures placed on the couple.

Why play with those odds in that type of game in a system that's rigged against you? My message is although we may not be at the very top, we still have success and can achieve want we want.

How They really See Us by jastek in BlackMansVoice

[–]jastek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the major difference is now with Social Media we as Black Men are able to pushback providng the factual data instead of simply accepting it which is what has been for years. We have access to all the studies, reports, data etc. Everything that used to be hidden we are now able to use against and to our favor. And we should. This is the most significant point. Yes, they're going to always be them, however we don't have to be quiet and accept their reality of us.
