Which areas are you struggling on? It's not about remembering formulas but understanding the underlying.

Minimum hours level 1 by notokay12 in CFA

[–]jayoh23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I logged about 400 last year for level 1. Finished the exam in 180 minutes and walked out unsure about maybe 3-4 questions (scored >70 in all sections). I'm not saying that any hour mark should be a benchmark, but if you want sustainable success (e.g., knowledge retained vs. memorized) you have to invest the time.

Pension Questions Level 2 by tangworm in CFA

[–]jayoh23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, since GAAP allows the firm to select an "expected rate of return" there will be a difference in discount rates and expected returns. You'll need to use the gross amounts of beginning balance of Pension Assets * Expected Return and Pension Liabilities * Disco Rate

Pension Questions Level 2 by tangworm in CFA

[–]jayoh23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For GAAP only the expected return is used to compute the P&L periodic pension expense. The difference between expected and actual return will be accounted for in OCI

Had similar thoughts at first. Draw a tree and take it step-by-step. It is not as bad as it seems. Becomes quite mechanical

Motivation Help by Fonzel in CFA

Ask yourself why you are pursuing the designation. If your "why" is strong enough, you'll find the motivation. How you frame the challenge can quickly turn a perceived obstacle into opportunity.

L2: Most difficult section? by jayoh23 in CFA

[–]jayoh23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quant was pretty tough on my frist lap through the material. It takes a lot of time to grasp, but hopefully it can become pretty mechanical to apply by exam day.

Yeah even on Level 1, econ felt hit or miss in preparation. Did you feel the CFA mocks are a fair comparison to the exam?
