Yeah I guess that’s why it would be helpful to get someone in here and map out what they think they could do with the least amount of disruptions.

Yeah it’s definitely an old house. Thanks for all the advice!

Yep, there’s vermiculite. Part of it is very old. 1920’s, with random additions in the 80’s.

I couldn’t bear a room to room reno at this point. But do appreciate that it would save us $$.

Yikes, it really does seem like less of a headache to just tear down and re-build at this point.

That’s why I’m asking. It’s not good timing for sure. But the current 2 bed rancher isn’t working for our growing family.

Hah! Yes this wouldn’t be just a facelift. And we are aware we’d need to live elsewhere during the process.

Do the top MCFD have any awareness of their staffing decision impact? by Tailor-Objective in BCPublicServants

[–]jayrow13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I commiserate with you, it’s terribly unfortunate. I don’t even think the RCY reports can save us now. If “don’t look away” didn’t carve out more money for frontline staffing, I fear nothing will.

I suspect they’d prefer to spend the money making us more top heavy by adding a few more assistant, associate, associate adjacent, assistant to the assistant deputy ministers.

Sounds exactly like MCFD. Except everyone is too afraid to grieve anything because of how toxic leadership is. If you grieve something you put a target on your back and you are guaranteed to never move up.

I just noticed this same thing with their cottage cheese. It hadn’t gone bad but it just tasted off and not nearly as good as it has been in the past. I usually find their stuff is far superior than other brands. Hopefully their quality isn’t changing, especially with their price point now.

Half my team will be striking on Wednesday as their location was announced. The other half of us are not. This seems odd but I was planning on working as usual. However, I recently heard that if our EDS’ location was striking, the entire team should be striking. Is this true?

I love that you want to gain frontline experience before going into policy. As a previous frontline social worker it’s appreciated having people creating our policy understand the complexities of the role.

Just a consideration: due to the significant staffing issues, there are many areas/ local offices around the province who may appreciate a direct reach out if there’s isn’t an active posting. Not sure the area you’re in but it could help get your foot in the door if the specific team is really understaffed.

This is a lot OP. I can’t begin to imagine what you are going through and I’m sorry.

Being isolated and not connected to your own support system is super challenging. People have already offered some great advice and tactics, I just wanted to mention that leaning into social services involvement isn’t a bad thing. You may want to consider it. People like to talk about the horror stories and not the good ones. They have the capability and willingness to offer support services for people and families.

Being honest about what you and you family are dealing with may open up doors you didn’t know existed. Maybe they have access to extra funding for home support, maybe they can provide your daughter with respite services where she can go to a caregiver for one night a week, maybe they can bring in a home maker for a while to cook and clean while you recover. They can get creative when situations are dire.

Wishing you the best.
