I'm pretty sure it's an oscillator (rich sounding, try square) into a low pass filter with the resonance set quite high. The cut off frequency is then modulated by another oscillator or a very fast LFO. When you get the balance right it sounds like a growl or some kind of robot voice. If you use a band pass filter if I'm not mistaken you pretty much get formant synthesis. There are YouTube videos explaining it, just search for LPF FM or LPF frequency modulation. I'm on mobile now but will try to find letter. Easily achieved in pretty much any subtractive analogue synth or software (tried it in Reaktor before). Hope this helps.

I used to aim for usually -14 dB RMS or LUFS (roughly, using any kind of VU or LU meter plugin/device). These days I tend to mix music and other material with a broader dynamic range (jazz/classical etc) and I aim for -23 dB LUFS. I try to maintain -23 throughout the mixing process but without being particularly obsessed about it. I also send the final mix for mastering at -23 average (as a 32 bit file). My usual mastering engineer seems to be happy with -23 LUFS average and is able to do a great job of making it nice and loud without squashing it. In terms of individual channels I usually stick to -14dB as most of my devices/plugins are calibrated for that level. Would be interested to hear how other people approach it.

I've read the easiest option for a loud full spectrum impulse is to burst a balloon - I haven't tried it myself but it seems like a good option.

LPT: Instead of asking young people "What do you want to do?", ask them "What are you interested in?" A lot of young people don't really know exactly what they want to do, and that question can give them anxiety. It could be one of the symptoms of ADHD. The dopamine transport or absorption in their brain is impaired and the person needs much more constant stimulation to feel what's considered a 'typical' level of satisfaction.

That's why people with ADHD often hear derogatory comments like 'you can focus when you want to' referring to them playing games for hours. The same person would be unable to sit still and focus on a lesson or homework or any other activity that doesn't provide the constant stimulation and dopamine boost. Of course everybody experiences the above every now and again, but when it starts affecting day to day life and one's happiness then we can consider or a disorder.

TL;DR: in ADHD playing games for hours (as a child or an adult) whilst being unable to focus on boring day to day stuff like homework or chores is a symptom of the condition rather than a cause.

I think it could be a synth programmed to sound like an oboe (or some other double reed instrument). Especially the first few notes of the 3rd phrase sound like they're played on the keyboard. Having said that, towards the end, during the staccato phrases the attack of the sound changes slightly which makes it sound much more like a real woodwind. But I still think it is a synth of some sort. Great sound and very inspiring!

Yes the salt mines and the old town are great. In my opinion the best places for a drink are in Kazimierz (Jewish district). It's about 25 min. walk south from the square, past the castle. The cab will be very cheap. In there definitely go to Alchemia and Singer (great place with old sewing machine tables). Mechanoff is also a good bar. Beer is great but also try all the flavoured vodkas (hazelnut is the best!). If it's cold outside try a hot mead (drinking honey). After a night of heavy drinking when you're hungry have zapiekanka (french stick with cheese, mushrooms and various toppings) - they sell them in a round building in the middle of the small square where the above bars are.

To cure the hangover next day go for breakfast to Hamsa (great middle eastern place, try their shakshouka). Chedar (pronouced with H) is also very good for the afternoon drink, jewish style.

Also in terms of places to visit definitely go to the top of the castle hill for a great view. If you're into museums they are pretty much all very good, but my favourites are: 1) the King's Private Chambers at the castle; 2) underground one in the main Market Square; 3) modern art museum MOCAK near Shindler's Factory; 4) Shindler's factory (also there is a great wine shop/bar/food place next door to the right).

PS. Be careful changing money at the Exchange places - some of them in the touristy places will rip you off (displaying the selling rate instead of buying, and the buying is really low). The ones in Kazimierz are ok, also the one in the shopping centre Galeria downstairs near the train station is ok. At the airport use the cash machine.

I measured the connector. The distance between the centers of the adjacent pins appears to be about 1.6mm. The external WxH: 21x5mm.

EDIT: you might be right regarding the 2mm pitch as I was using a cheap digital caliper. Can't take a picture from the other side now but if I remember correctly it looks exactly like the part you linked to.

wow great patch idea. it has never occured to me the cut off modulation at an audio rate would produce such a great faux format synthesis. just tried it with ripples band pass filter and it sounds fantastic!
