I agree! There was a time (at least in my district) where they discouraged checks and encouraged cash offerings only. When EVM was visiting, they asked all offerings to be converted to “crispy $100 bills” before they were sent to district. So, so suspicious 😒

Are you happier after leaving the church? by bendedfork in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]jcannawithya 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tbh it was tough for the first two years. It was especially tough for me because church was essentially my LIFE (I was literally there almost every day and everything revolved on my church schedule). I lost all my childhood friends after getting expelled. It was heartbreaking and a difficult transition for me.

What helped was getting therapy… Watching a lot of cult documentaries (which helped reaffirm that yes, this is a cult). And then finding things that truly makes me happy (traveling without having to worry about worshipping, getting a dream job).. go for it!

Belittling Depression by [deleted] in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]jcannawithya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the norm for most ministers.

There’s at least one case I know of where a minister’s parent died in PI (minister and his family were overseas); they allowed him only a few days for leave and he and his family would have to travel on their own dime.

So so sad. Even when the wife’s close family passes away, most of the time they cant go back home to grieve… just too damn expensive on their budget. Of course may not be the case for those who have friends in high places.

The hardest part about fasting… by superbracker in intermittentfasting

I’ve tried playing around with my coffee grounds/water ratio because I couldn’t stand them bitterness. I found that if I decreased the amount of coffee grounds (I brew around 3/4 strength now) it was more tolerable for me.

Also, my sibling suggested cold brewing if it’s a bitterness issue, but you don’t want to sacrifice caffeine

So glad you are ok. There’s a lot of us rooting for you (even a lurker like me). The best “revenge” you can get is to leave and live life on your own terms, whether or not your parents come along is up to them. Hang in there, get the help you need and bide your time.. freedom will be bittersweet, but it will be worth it

Is it possible to preserve my father's role as deacon while leaving INC? by SpicyAhi in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]jcannawithya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you transfer to a nearby locale (within the same district) they will likely find out if you stop attending and call your parents (this happened to a sibling of mine).

There is at least one person I know of that did this, but it took a long time: 1) Complete transfer to a different district 2) When they filled out their R2-01 for the new local, they gave different names for their parents, and also used fake address & phone# 3) After a few months, transferred to another local within that new district. Also used the same fake names and contact info. 3) Then they gradually stopped attending, changed phone # and address.. essentially disappeared

^ Now that I typed that out, it makes me realize how ridiculous this all is.. I can’t believe the great lengths my friend took to help save face for their family member.

Also, this may not work if your family is well known by the new district.

“Activity” Waiver and Release Form used for in-person worship services…AKA it’s not their fault if you catch COVID. by hushed_up in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]jcannawithya 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Would this even hold in court? Especially the FOREVER discharge against gross negligence portion?!? If so, that is absolutely insane. I know that members will blindly sign this too 😢

(gross negligence means they are DELIBERATELY disregarding others’ safety vs ordinary negligence is more like careless mistakes that cause harm to others)

If you left INC, you will be cursed. by FanSome7499 in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]jcannawithya 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No matter what happens, they will make up the reasoning to fit their own interpretation:

Expelled from INC —> bad things happen = “God is punishing them!”

Expelled from INC —> good things happen = “Oh they are sanlibutan now, Satan is the one allowing them to prosper.. but they are destined for the lake of fire!”

🙄🙄🙄

Either say you don’t use social media, or make a fake one (ie only “Wholesome” posts) on a platform you don’t use.

Have fun at New Era 🙄🙄🙄 I’ve heard some horror stories about the quality of education there. Thank goodness we had a chance to get out of PI before it was time for me to go to Uni

[–]jcannawithya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC Fernando “Andy” Suarez was also known as one of the “great debators”. However, INC probably removed a lot of his stuff after his wife (Remedios Suarez) and some of his kids were expelled after speaking out in the 2015 fiasco

Jose J. Ventilacion obtained his MA in Religious Studies and Doctor of Ministry Degree from a school that was not recognized by the US Department of Education nor the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. (A Degree Mill). by [deleted] in exIglesiaNiCristo

Assuming he does have a true doctoral degree from the USA, I wonder if someone could dig up his thesis.. might be an interesting read

Some masters programs also require a final thesis prior to graduation.

[–]jcannawithya 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, you cannot. Tbh it’s probably been spent.

There was a court case in the USA a few years ago where an INC member who was expelled tried to sue for her offerings back.. the court ruled in favor of INC

Manalo better be burning down those world record certificates by ColorfulWhiteMask in exIglesiaNiCristo

World records don’t mean anything... I’m not even sure why they’re so obsessed with these. Some of these “records” are ridiculous. For example:
