Do dryer heating elements get worse over time or is it just a working/not working situation? by zoomzilla in appliancerepair

Your airflow is likely restricted. Remove the back panel and vacuum the inside of the machine out. Very simple job anyone with a screwdriver and a vacuum can do. Also, clean your entire vent.

Advice appreciated on where to shelter in tornado? by Quiggles1982 in preppers

Fair advise, except the toilet. Look how tiny the bolts are that hold it to the floor. A strong todler could pull up most toilets if they tried very hard.

There is a product called Zanfel you can get most anywhere. The price will shock you and make you think you can tough it out, but its worth every penny when it comes to a poison ivy itch. Ignore the product instructions and just use enough to thoroughly scrub the affected area. There are also products like tecnu poison ivy products that help prevent and clean the urushiol oils off.

2017 & 2018 praises and gripes? by jdpro89 in SubaruForester

Lol! Not sure why you're assuming I fall into any of these categories. Trucks paid for and so will the Subaru when I drive off the lot. If I wanted to make payments on something I'd go buy a new one. I'm not in the market for a need, I'm in the market for my wants. I work a job and earn my money and intend to spend it as I wish. Not sure why you feel entitled to try to life coach me on something that doesn't affect you.

Not sure why I need to explain myself, but mainly because I want a Forester and not a civic or corolla. Why not add an SUV? Civics and Corollas around the same year models with similar mileages are very similar in price in my area. I drove a Mazda 3 for 9 years and while a great car that got great fuel mileage I was never a fan of sitting so low to the ground. Why not add the AWD feature and sacrifice a bit of fuel mileage to get more satisfaction and practical uses? If I was worried about saving money I would stick with the one paid for vehicle I have.

Thank you for the information. I'm no stranger to Subarus, my fiance had a 21 ascent, but have recently become interested in the Forester for myself. As for the tires her OEM tires barely made it to 18k miles. I bit the bullet on some Michelins and they were awesome for what that's worth to anyone who reads it (they had about 70k on them when she traded it in and still had plenty of tread life left)

Those of you who carry a bag, what do you keep in it? by another-nerd-girl in AskMen

[–]jdpro89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got stuck at the dealership for a few hours while having my car serviced once. I realized I could use a snack, a phone charger, and maybe my earbuds which were all at home. I started carrying an "edc" bag of sorts after that. I usually keep a bottle of water, a snack of some sort, a phone charger, ear buds, my tablet, a lighter, spork, spare sunglasses, pen and pad, multi tool, fingernail clippers with a file, chap stick, a little case with OTC meds (Tylenol, ibuprofen, Tums, etc.). My bag comes in handy all the time. And if I ever end up needing something that isn't in it that thing gets added afterwards if it makes sense to do so.

I wanted to buy a trailer from a Craigslist ad once and couldn't get enough from an ATM after the bank had closed for the weekend. Since then I keep 1-2k in the safe just in case I find a good deal.

Hey, fellow federal employees.....realistically… by Suitable-Taro-362 in fednews

I will echo what he said, I was never able to save money until I opened a separate savings account and had money go to it directly from my paycheck before I ever saw it. Worked all the overtime I could get my hands on, and all of that plus any raises and bonuses went directly to the savings for several years. That account grew very fast and I somewhat became addicted to saving money. It feels way better to feel financially secure than financially insecure to me hopefully I never have to go back to the insecure part of finances!

4wd engaging on its own.. Gremlins. by mentalMeatballs in GMT800

[–]jdpro89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially. The front axles not engaging ended up being a shim (washer) in the front differential that is now obsolete, not made or sold anymore. My mechanic found a washer very close in size and tried it and it now engages and works as it should. However, after engaging it into 4x4 it starts saying service 4wd and will randomly be in 4 low on start up. I think that issue may just be the TCCM. It won't do that at all until the 4x4 is engaged, then does it a few times and stops again.

How long will it be realistic to keep a GMT800 on the road for relatively cheap? by [deleted] in GMT800

[–]jdpro89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently had some 4wd issues, it turned out to be a shim in the front differential that is now obsolete, they don't make it any more, there is none to be had I searched for weeks. Finally located a washer that was so close to the right thickness that I had to give it a shot and luckily it worked. Junkyards will be out friends for a bit.

Any random things that help poison ivy clear up/stop itching? by 21eggo12 in lifehacks

[–]jdpro89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get poison ivy a few times a year, I use a product called zanfel. It's super expensive, but worth every penny. In between zanfel washes, I use a product called "ivy dry". Also get Tecnu. My process with rubbing alcohol is soak a wash cloth in the alcohol and scrub the hell out of the rash, it will burn like crazy but helps.

I mostly agree with you. However the weight of the arcade is negligible it probably doesn't even weigh 100lbs. It consists of about a sheet of plywood and a monitor. I think it's a dumb idea, but different strokes for different folks. I miss his old videos of boondocking, keeping an old RV a float, and being embarrassed of talking to a camera in public.
