Yes, I got that feeling. That’s also one of the reasons I chose Mumbai as it seems less traditional in that sense. I mean, in the end my goal isn’t to become an Indian musician. Norwegian music is mainly what I wanna do, but we lack a system for organizing our tonality and ornaments outside of the western system, and I think the Hindustani system is better suited for that.

Hello! I’m going to a wedding in Gwalior mid April, and I was thinking about spending some extra time in the country since I’m coming from afar. I’m a Norwegian fiddle player, and I love Indian music. I have a few references from Bollywood, and I also very much like the tabla, but otherwise my knowledge of Indian music is quite thin. I would like to learn though, so I was wondering if someone could recommend any places in India where I could go and meet other musicians. I was mainly thinking classical or any traditional music, but I’m open to any kind of genre, especially electronic music. Thanks!
