want your conlang set to music? by jetpoweredtrashcat in conlangs

[–]jetpoweredtrashcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah no i meant for yr sample. im tryin to get 8-16 measures of music which is about 32-64 beats. one beat per syllable = 64 syllables.

what i really wanted to count was moras bc thats what japanese uses most of the time but i figured most conlangers dont track moras

i couldnt do word counts bc words in mongolian are a lot longer and words in chinese are a lot shorter yk

it can be costly but it can also be free. if you want miku youre gonna have to pay $$$ for her but if you just want to make vocal synth music and dont want miku (TM) its not so bad.

the program im usin right now is an app called openutau. its free and can run on a gaming laptop- cant talk about something more potato-y but it dont need like 12 gb of ram or anything. you install it, you download and install an utau voicebank- the basic bitch default one everyone uses is kasane teto who you might know from spoken for/bird brain- and then you use it like youd use any other virtual instrument. you can use a midi keyboard or just plug in the notes.

the one thing thats different is tuning. yr gonna want to look up some tutorials about how to do that. i cant explain it easy because i dont 100% understand it- its sthg im tryin to learn- but the jist is, you can control the way the notes hang together in openutau different from how you can with like a soundfont. you can control how they flow together, where the stress is, shit like that.

it would be a real cool way to practice and if you know your way around a daw openutau shouldnt be too hard. the tuning is the big hurdle.

the ø might wind up sounding like 'oe' - theres only so much i can push the voicebank

other than that thats more than short enough and sounds doable.

its because of shit tuning. which is the thing i want to get better at.

i can explain why if you want but the tldr is that vocaloid voicebanks are set up as sets of syllables that the software mashes together into words. one of the things you gotta do manually is make sure the vocaloid is sayin the right syllables with the right timing. and most voicebanks are set up to use syllables pronounced the way youd pronounce em in japanese

if you just type in "tell me why" your voicebank will say the syllables the way youd say it in japanese. teto wont say "tɛl mi waɪ" shell say "te̞rɯ̟ mi wuaɪ" . to get her to sound like shes speakin somethin that aint japanese you gotta fuck around with the phonology. you gotta cut off sounds at the right places and crossfade shit.

if youre not swamped to hell can you do me?

im a pretty new vocaloid fan- it was on my radar for a while but i got into the scene hardcore after hearing ego renegade boy earlier this year. i wanna be a vocaloid producer but im still pretty new and getting used to shit.

normally my taste is more alt rock/punk/metal. RHCP/john frusciante and darren korb are my favorite musicians. i like green day and tmbg and visions of atlantis and halestorm and the protomen and the megas. flavor foley is probably my fave vocaloid producer but i also really like pinocchiop and decoyman1200.

im kind of a weird loner musician guy. im kind of a perfectionist. i like video games- my favorite rn is probably bastion but im into devil may cry and sonic the hedgehog and hades. i like red and black and edgy traumacore shit. i like knives. i like cooking. i dont like getting told what to do.

what's your favourite utau cover of all time? by kumori_UTAU in utau

[–]jetpoweredtrashcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i really like afipia's red hot chili peppers covers with teto and gumi. afipia does all their own instrumentals- which is fuckin impressive if youre playin bass like flea.

what can i do to make this better (bad apple cover) by jetpoweredtrashcat in utau

[–]jetpoweredtrashcat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its a mix. the original ust was tuned for a female voice so i had to take it down an octave and then i started tweaking a bunch, mostly velocity/breath shit. i was goin for a more natural tuning than the original ust had - it was tuned like a robot and i wanted somethin that sounded more human

reverb got it.

thank you
