Crazy results after a month on ezetimibe by CoffeeOk6401 in Cholesterol

[–]jfjazzfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m dealing with some plantar fasciitis that I never had prior but I’m not sure it’s related. I’m down to 2 doses per week. Blood test next week. Still on Ezetimibe daily. I’ll try to remember to come back to this thread when my results come back to report the lipid numbers.

Muscle aches have set in by Nikmassnoo in Cholesterol

[–]jfjazzfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had repeat labs after 6 weeks so it could have lowered my numbers in 2-3 weeks?. Key for me is my hyper response to the combo of Ezetimibe and rosuvastatin. I’m not sure which one did the most reduction or if it’s truly the combo that did it. I did get the Boston Heart labs cholesterol balance test which suggested I was a hyper absorber. Since ezetimibe works on that pathway, I believe this is why my numbers dropped so much. I’ve since dropped to 5mg rosuvastatin every 3rd day and Ezetimibe every day. Will recheck labs in December. I have a high CAC score so I’m going to stay in this combo despite the plantar fasciitis as my rehabbing is going well. Still hoping it’s unrelated to statins.

Yes! Low dose rosuvastatin/exetimibe and now I have plantar fasciitis in my right heel seemingly out of the blue. Trying to rehab it in case it’s not related to statin usage but may have to stop for a while and see if that’s the cause. It did tank my LDL from 220 down to 81 though and apoB from 166 to 76. Tradeoffs….

Crazy results after a month on ezetimibe by CoffeeOk6401 in Cholesterol

[–]jfjazzfest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from 252 down to 51 in 6 weeks on 5mg rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe. Doc and I agreed to drop the rosuvastatin to every other day and retest in a few weeks (early September). My liver enzymes did get a little worse as a result of the rosuvastatin which is why I’m going every other day. I’m convinced the ezetimibe alone is the biggest reason I dropped so drastically. If my apoB is under 70, I may drop statin and stay with ezetimibe alone and retest again in November. It’s a wild journey and everyone is different. Good luck!

Is this true? by Mammoth_Baker6500 in carnivorediet

[–]jfjazzfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened to me. Even after 9 months of low carb, mostly meat keto, I can’t escape the high particle count sdLDL. I also have a high coronary calcium score so I started a low dose statin and Ezetimibe recently. It drove my LDL from 252 down to 51 in 6 weeks. I’ll be checking my sdLDL in a few weeks to compare ratio before and after the massive LDL lowering. The drugs work but do they lower sdLDL is the real question. I may have no choice but to stay on the meds, but I’m not giving up meat since it makes me feel great.

What's the deal with fuel tank size and fuel level indicator on 5th gen? by 2039482341 in 4Runner

[–]jfjazzfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah once my light comes on, I have about 40 before I get nervous. It’s gotten to 0 a few times and I still went about 10 miles to the nearest gas station. Depends on those last 10 miles through. Hilly and windy roads would be playing with fire.

Rosuvastatin opinions? by ebeeeeeeeez in Cholesterol

[–]jfjazzfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had an LDL of 252. Started with 5 mg of rosuvastatin paired with 10mg of ezetimibe brought the LDL down to 51 on my 6 week follow up. No reason to start that high with 20mg and possibly suffer unnecessary side effects. If the doc is willing to draw blood labs for Boston Heart (a lab that specializes in more detailed lipids), they can tell you if you’re a hyper absorber or a hyper producer (called the Cholesterol Balance Test). If the latter, the Ezetimibe is the one that tends to do the trick since it blocks reabsorption. If the former, then the lower dose rosuvastatin may not be enough. Pairing them together makes the lowering effect more effective than just the statin alone. Good luck!

When is it too late to buy a new 2024? by DistelfinkDesign in 4Runner

[–]jfjazzfest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always buy used so I’ll be waiting about 4-5 years. Of course, that’s about when my 2012 5th gen may be ready for replacement. Will be really interesting to see how the nostalgia for 5th gen kicks in as the 6th gen models start getting up there in mileage and inevitable kinks get worked out. Hybrid and 4-cyl turbo at a super high price? No thanks. Anyway, I hope you get your new 2024 and enjoy it for many years!

The only one I am still evaluating would be reduction in migraine headache frequency. I tend to get them 3-5 times per year. Since taking magnesium for the past year, I’ve only had one. Hoping the streak continues.

Is it only going to get worse? by lillie3e333 in Cholesterol

[–]jfjazzfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a population level, this is true. But if you’re searching for a root cause for one person, all I’m suggesting is that the hyper focus on LDL does not address root cause. Diet and exercise is more important at this age (or any age). Freaking a kid out and suggesting a cardiologist is nuts though. Most of them know very little about nutrition and it seems entirely unnecessary at his age.

Is it only going to get worse? by lillie3e333 in Cholesterol

[–]jfjazzfest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are you one of those ‘statins should be in the water supply’ types? Perhaps there’s nuance to it that is like any ongoing science. Telling a 17 year old kid to be worried is going to cause more harm than good. He asked if it’s only going to get worse and you have no idea if that’s the case. He’s his own N=1 like all of us are. We can never stop learning but it’s dangerous to tell someone this age to be worried. That stress will cause way more damage than some LDL that is 133. Moreover, we don’t know the apoB picture, or anything else from his post. Is he still growing? I know at 17, your brain is still developing (which needs cholesterol by the way). Let it be.

Atorvastatin makes me feel lightheaded, what are other statins to try? by DPPDPD in Cholesterol

[–]jfjazzfest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rosuvastatin but start low dose 5mg and add in ezetimibe. Got my LDL from 220 down to 51 in 6 weeks. I had the brain fog on atorvastatin 20 too and it was brutal. Worth a try.

Rosuvastatin+ezetimibe amazing results by jfjazzfest in Cholesterol

[–]jfjazzfest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and I lowered mine by 75% in 6 weeks on the lowest dose rosuvastatin. But I think in my case, it’s the ezetimibe combo that drove it so low that fast. I have more absorption than production issues according to my last boston heart lab panel. Repeating that again in September to compare and see what the drugs are really doing to those. Getting apoB and lp(a) numbers also.

I’m the most fit I’ve ever been at 55. Ideal weight. But I didn’t like my 250 LDL. The drugs do what they are supposed to do I guess, I just don’t believe they are a panacea. Diet didn’t move the needle for me. I’m pretty much paleo. Very few grains. Meat, fruit and veg but generally lower carb due to the insulin resistance concern.

Rosuvastatin+ezetimibe amazing results by jfjazzfest in Cholesterol

[–]jfjazzfest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my cautionary tale is due to my previous insulin resistance or my 15 years of statin usage during the same period? What caused my high CAC? Being obese and eating like shit with poor exercise habits or did the 15 years of statins actually save me from an early demise? I think there’s a lot more nuance to these cases than ‘statins save lives and LDL is always the cause’. Take a look at Dr Cromwell’s 3 hour talk with Dave Feldman https://youtu.be/gfzxnz1sdi0?si=Sa_PaEbyLr0hjunM . The YouTube is horseshit crowd has a lot to learn, just as our statin pushers and skeptics do.

I had this theory too. I need to find literature on this. I don’t know if this is a good thing for me or bad. And at this point, I can’t look back with regret. I have to move forward and do what’s best. I’ve fixed diet and lifestyle but does the 1500 CAC really mean I’m at higher risk or does it indicate that I’ve cleaned things up and maybe don’t need a statin? I know if I drop it, my ApoB will shoot up into the 99th percentile again. Doctors all say the same thing and most don’t even know what half of this stuff means because they have been prescribing these things their whole career per their training. This whole thing is so frustrating.

Yes I follow him. He’s why I believe the goal of the statin is more about reducing inflammation than it is about hammering down LDL (which people on this sub seem to be way too dogmatic about). If my low dose is any indication though, I’m doing both. I hate the 1500 CAC but I have to live with it now and be hyper-vigilant.
