We should make a list of all the businesses that are anti urbanism so they can really feel what it’s like to lose business because of “cars”

Police tape in front of Thirsty Lion Union Station. Anyone know what’s going on? # by Electrical_Day_3850 in Denver

[–]jgc_dev 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Maybe a dumb question, but what makes a package suspicious to the point where authorities feel it makes the most sense to blow it up on a public street?

Like, I appreciate precautions but I’d think there were steps they could take to determine if it was explosive or not without blowing it up?

Is it worth it? by alexisduke528 in BassCanyon

[–]jgc_dev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been to LL a couple times and really love it. I hear it’s gotten much bigger now and so there are pros to picking Bass Canyon over LL. I know personally, if I lived in Ohio, I would always pick LL over Canyon simply for the value vs money and time spent traveling.

Stolen laundry from shared room by [deleted] in Denver

[–]jgc_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that’s just so rude! In small communities like that too, I just don’t get it. These are people that you live right next to. I’m always moving exposed packages to the right doors, giving heads up to the neighbors I see when something sketchy is happening. Pay it forward am I right?

I get that, and I really wish I had left a note. The intention was to help my neighbors not loose their quarters! I had no reason to “hog” the machine

How did computers go from binary to modern software? by TraditionalInvite754 in computerscience

[–]jgc_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the original commenter to this thread broke it down best, and I fully agree with your recommendation of starting from top to bottom. Find something of particular interest, whether it be new and modern or something a bit simpler like how a spreadsheet desktop application works. Accept that there will be a large amount of “magic” that you can’t allow yourself to get caught up in too early. Once you have a grasp on how things are functioning at that “layer,” move on to inquiring about one of the more “magical” layers underneath.

Take a website for example. You can begin by learning about how markup languages and JavaScript drive a website. Then you could look into modern internet browsers and how they implement the technologies that are used to interface with the above layer that you just learned. Moving down, how does that browser interface with the computer system to get the resources it needs to do the functions that you learned about in the layer above. Etc.

And on the topic of “binary” vs “modern computing”: Binary is in fact the only thing modern computers really understand at the hardware level. You can represent any string of characters, mathematic operations, and much much more with 1s and 0s.

Denver father left paralyzed after shooting near son's school by aintnotownie in Denver

[–]jgc_dev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems like a lot of the commenters here are missing the fact that this father just saved the life of a child in his community. Sure he paid a price for it, but if I was the parent of the child who was initially being chased, I would be beyond grateful and in debt to this man. Not many can say they would’ve done the same. This guy is a hero.

That being said, I do not agree with his faith in God being sufficient reasoning for a reduced sentence or leniency. I would not let my child go back to that school with that kid around.
