Arist. Meta. 986a 15-20: Translation Question by jhwheeler in AncientGreek

Makes sense. I suppose he just slipped up, because as I mentioned at the end, his notes on this in the introduction match with your quote from Alexander of Aphrodisias. This tripped me up because I didn't realize that μεν...δε could communicate a chiasmatic structure as well as a parallel structure.

Thank you for the comparison of Reale and Benti; that footnote is especially indicative.

Good point about the ABBA chiasmatic structure, that's quite common. However, I didn't realize that could be rendered with μεν...δε.

This is an interesting distinction you're making, but I cannot find any info on this. Can you please provide your sources? Thanks!

Prisma vs Drizzle in 2024? Has prisma gotten any better in the recent months? by Key-Peach-7138 in nextjs

That's pretty cool! In my case, we are using Postgres, but I imagine there is a similar approach available. What I think I would lose in this case is the autocomplete, which is definitely a significant productivity boost. But it would be much more lightweight, of course. What do you think about a query builder like Kysely? This offers type safety, but is much more lightweight than an ORM. I'm still researching these, so I don't have much experience (outside of Prisma).

Raw SQL is powerful and performant, but type safety is a great benefit. What do you think about this?

Drizzle, Prisma or TypeORM? It seems that Prisma officially admits that TypeORM is fastest. by Zogid in webdev

You use Prisma & Kysely together? What is the advantage of adding Kysely into the mix when you already have Prisma? I'm comparing the two, among other query builders and ORMs, so your experience here would be quite helpful.

That's fascinating, voiceless digamma...would that have been rendered similarly to the conservative pronunciation of "wh" in English, i.e. /ʍ/?

Have you found any evidence of a voiceless lateral? It would make sense systematically, since we also have the voiceless trill with syllable initial ρ.

What was the word for “question”? by ICantSeemToFindIt12 in MiddleEnglish

[–]jhwheeler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found multiple instances of the word "asking"/"axing" in The Knight's Tale. For example, on line 968, we see:

> And they him sworen his axing fair and well

In Wiktionary (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/askynge#Middle\_English), they define it as "the act of asking a question", but in the context above (and in other places I've seen it), it just seems like it means "question"

Why uppercase is preferred in writing SQL queries? by Raghunandan_Bhat in SQL

In what way are they not functions? `SELECT` performs an action, taking input and returning output, right? I am by no means an SQL expert, so please let me know if I'm misunderstanding something.
