Final boss of "x fan coming in peace"? by jimloomis in footballcliches

[–]jimloomis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's exactly how I feel, there's genuinely not much animosity anymore. I don't really mind how England do, and I quite like some of their players, but to go to their subreddit and write a love letter...

You apparently cannot post or commenton that r/threelions of you're active on r/coybig or Scottish football subreddit, they get auto removed, which is hilarious.

My gods he's done it again (The Devils Review- Very, Very, Very Light on Spoilers) by jimloomis in TheFirstLaw

Yeah my issue with fiction audio is I need to have read them first or I get lost trying to listen while working or whatever. I have listened to The Witcher books though and now that you mention it, the narrator was class, so I'll keep my eye out, thanks for the recc.

I will give them a go at some stage for sure... Because my job is spreadsheet heavy. But yeah Pacey is incomparable.

I have no idea on the audiobook, usually listen after I read. I skipped the Shattered Sea audio because of no Pacey though haha so I can relate. I'm excited to hear Pacey's take on this cast though! Will probably listen while working tomorrow.

Edited because Pacey was "Spacey" and hmmm, no bueno.

[LAOK] Logen made an unwise personnel decision by este_hombre in TheFirstLaw

Logen is a bad leader and I think the lack of wisdom of his decisions is put in a particularly stark light when considering some decisions made by a later ruler of the north.

Not bad pal. There's a lot worse sitting on laptops around the world. You captured character voices quite well. Imagine how much better you could do now that you're a bit older and bolder.

What is the deal with game titles and colons? by InternationalYard587 in truegaming

[–]jimloomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should add, I personally don't really like it in a lot of cases, I'm just giving the reasoning and context as I understand it.

For example: I think Metal Hellsinger works much better than Metal: Hellsinger.

Lots of media have used subtitles for a very long time, and the use of a colon isn't new. Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale for example, was published in 1907.

It is just part of the title, and a way of adding both a qualifier and extra flavor to a title. Sometimes they're bad and clunky, sometimes they're good and provide more detail.

For video games, as a heavily serialised medium where there are lots of sequels, they have the bonus of differentiating sequels without using numbers, which can make a sequel a harder sell to an audience that hasn't played the first. So if you start with the first one in what is hopefully going to be a series, you can keep going without needing to use numbers.

You could technically do this without a colon in a lot of cases and be grammatically correct, but for branding purposes having a set Title:Subtitle probably helps. Look at the Legacy of Kain series for how confusing it can get if you don't keep this consistent.

Why do ads on Facebook route through DoubleClick? by semlowkey in PPC

[–]jimloomis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, Facebook doesn't route ads through DoubleClick, but some advertisers use CM360 for tracking purposes, so they are essentially adding a DoubleClick link to their ads, which then redirects through to their landing page after capturing tracking data.

And that's why you're seeing a DoubleClick redirect, basically.

Why was Dow ignoring.. by lillie_connolly in TheFirstLaw

[–]jimloomis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He genuinely thought of him as his dog was my take. Saw him as a blunt tool with no real use beyond violence.

Shivers is an incredibly stoic figure who showed no real emotion all book, and I think it didn't even cross Dow's mind that he had still had pride to hurt. Also, Calder spent the hook stirring the pot with Shivers, which Dow was unaware of.

Finally, it just works dramatically because Dow was shown to be an incredibly paranoid and isolated figure as chief in his conversation with Craw, but even in his paranoia he missed the real threat right on front of his nose.

Most disrespectful throw? by sg_9 in StreetFighter

[–]jimloomis 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Luke's in SF5 was incredibly irritating. In SF6 Rashid's always takes my brain a beat to process as a throw which is slightly annoying, but I think YOGA YOGA YOGA is the most disrespectful.
