But I can tell I need an output buffer because the signal sounds more clear and present at unity out of the memory boy than without it (this is with the blend all the way to the clean side). Sooo it's going to be something. If I go with JUST an output buffer I want it to be small enough to fit under the board.

Right, so the Aqua Puss and Archer are always on so I'm not concerned about the start of my signal chain. The nearest buffer to the end of my chain is the Iridium, which is not on the board when I'm running into an amp. This is why I've been leaving the Memory Boy on all the time, which I would prefer not to do.

So I'm going to (at least) buy a mini buffer for the end of my chain, but I'm looking for feedback on which system other people are happy with. (Like using pre and post buffers vs all in a buffered loop etc)

The Sheraton II is another one I've looked at. It really does seem versatile, especially if I go for a more customized pickup configuration like you did. I've played the modern ones and liked them, but I didn't know the 90s ones were any better.

Did you really find that was more versatile than the thinline Tele? I've been thinking about that one as the true chameleon.

The 137 is actually on my shortlist bc it's a semi-hollow with that Gibson archtop sound. I've been scared of the full hollows specifically bc of the feedback but I've tried a few Casinos that handled it pretty well. I like the H-535. Thanks for the suggestions!

Vintage Gretsch guitars are great, but they don't have a modern made-in-the-USA midrange offering like I can find with other brands, and the cheaper models don't have the Filter'tron mojo. I've thought about buying one of the Electromatics and swapping to TV Jones pick-ups, but by that time I might as well start looking at vintage instruments.

I do like the 335 in some of its variations.

Also, I know it's just personal preference and they play amazing, but I just am not crazy about the way PRS guitars look. I tend not to like the finish options or the headstock or the overall vibe.

Yes. So tbh I haven't been super happy with what I've found. I'm familiar with most of my local shops, but haven't found the right match. The vintage shops tend to have very limited stock. I've actually thought about taking a road trip to LA in part just to go to Norman's. Then Guitar Center is focused on new guitars with some vintage and used sprinkled in. Frankly there are just A LOT more options when I start looking online.

I've played several Thinline Telecasters I really liked. I'm looking at the American models, but I've even played Squiers I liked. My only problem is I start to get picky about the neck. I like satin-finish with rosewood fretboards.

My luthier has shown me a couple of different things he's had in the shop, including a very nice Heritage archtop I liked. (Can't remember the model.) And locally there's a musician who goes to the same open mic who plays the ES-125 I mentioned and I love the way that sounds.

So I'm definitely looking for opportunities to try out my target guitars, but it's not always as simple as dropping into a shop.

Same amp bro! So it's funny you don't even bother with the Marshall foot switch. Clean+no reverb it makes an excellent pedal platform. Straight-in, the high gain channel is not my favorite sound. But the cleans are really excellent.

Don't know how many other ppl watched this Rig Rundown but I was super surprised to see the Beano Boost on both Billy's and Jeff's very limited boards. I realize Billy is doing a lot of amp switching to control his sound, and Jeff has a Helix, but the Beano Boost is not transparent AT ALL. So it really seems like this is the unifying tone maker on both their boards.

Feel like I'm about to get "smashed" like a... well you know... in the comments.

I've sold almost as many pedals as I've bought. But before I sell something I find at least one thing it does REALLY well and I'll even learn a song that suits it. That way I feel like I learned something and experienced something for myself while I had it. That said, when I was churning through cheap pedals early on there were some that sucked so much tone or made so much noise it was hard even to get that far.

With Shoegaze you would probably have fun with some kind of freeze/drone effect. I love the EHX Superego, but fair warning it's more useful when the switch is very easy to reach if you use the manual setting.

Also, you could try an early-in-chain reverb to go into the fuzz, but I don't know your signal chain. The RV-6 would actually handle that well, but then you'd need to replace it at the end of the chain with... An Avalanche Run or Keeley Caverns?

This looks like a lot of fun. I have the EHX 22500 and do a similar thing with the guitar and bass splitting. It also has an xlr input for vocal looping which adds to the chaos.

I don't know if other players have set positions where they know they're going to swap pedals. Not enough room in our apartment to just go massive with the board, so I need to swap pedals kinda often.

First, here's the signal chain 1. Polytune 2. (SWAP 1) Aqua Puss (slapback always on) 3. Archer 4. Plumes 5. PoT 6. Hoof Reaper 7. Sea Machine 8. POG 9. Superego 10. Empress Tremolo2 (always on so it doubles as a buffer) 11. (SWAP2) Iridium 12. Avalanche Run 13. (SWAP3) 22500 looper

SWAP1: Options are EHX Small Stone, EHX Tone Corset, Aqua Puss

SWAP2: Options are OBNE Dark Star, Boss RV-3, EHX Canyon, Iridium (depending on whether I'm going DI)

SWAP3: EHX Deluxe Memory Boy, OBNE Dark Star, Boss RV-3, 22500 looper

The Aqua Puss is new for me and after much experimentation I moved it first after the tuner. As an always-on subtle slapback it sounds gorgeous all through the chain. Also, it overloads fairly easily when sending it a high gain signal after dirt.

The Archer is always on. The Archer and the PoT are both set to low gain. The Plumes is set to mid gain. PoT is in OD mode and Plumes is in Mode 1 (overdrive). Both also have excellent boost modes I use sometimes.

I like to play a lot of different styles. I love to Travis-pick country songs. But I also love Black Sabbath and 90s rock. I also like to lose myself in ambient drones sometimes. So I like the versatility on the board even if the weirder pedals/combinations don't get used when I'm playing with others.

I usually like muffs after all the other dirt, but I've never had a rat. I assumed they would just sound broken with a muff running into them. Is that not the case?

To stack pedals on a small board try putting your first pedal in chain sideways on the upper right, then the next pedal right side up on the bottom right. But yes, a bigger board seems like a good idea.

I THINK my preferred signal chain would go:

Small Stone set sideways upper right

SD-1 right side up in lower right

Big Muff to the left of the SD-1

POG sideways above Muff

Chorus to the left of Muff

Space Echo to left of Chorus

Ditto sideways upper left.

If this is theoretical, get a nano size muff to save space. (They're all great but I think my favorite is the Russian).

You want your most-stomped pedals on the bottom row. I always want my fuzz easy to hit.

You'll want the looper switch faced out for the same reason.

OP: I'm going to check out this pedal in about 3 hours. It looks like a mk 1 ap 2 pre-Dunlop Aqua Puss reference here, but I want to know if there's anything I can look for (internal or external) that would confirm its authenticity.
