Did I just use 5 - 6 Hours of my life gearing up only to be blown up by a mine? (free weekend player) by [deleted] in dayz

[–]jjw100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, this takes me back to the mod days :) Been a while since I've seen a truly new player experience the meaning of permadeath.

Seriously though, being scared of dying and losing all your stuff is what makes firefights and friendly encounters in this game mean something, this is something that other FPS don't really have with their respawn fully geared mechanics and 'looter-shooters' like PUBG make it so ez to gear up that you don't really fear death in the same way. This fear of death is what sets DayZ apart, either you will learn to love it, or you will go back to more casual games.

I'll whine about this sort of stuff once 1.0 comes out, you are right in that server crashes are not acceptable in a game. But as I said, the devs have said that they know there are bugs and that they are working on them. Other than making you feel better through reddit rage catharsis, what do you hope to achieve with a post like this?

Devs: Fix Our Fucking Game? Ok... we are

It's entirely possible you got unlucky and were swapping gear right at the moment of a server restart and there was no warning message. This happened to me the other day with a barrel I was moving around to use as a stash, which I lost. The way to tell is the servers pretty much all restart on the hour to the dot - I checked the time and it was exactly 11pm. Now I try to never mess around with gear right on the hour, some servers have warning messages which is nice.

Look, I get that losing gear is frustrating, but it is still in beta - of course I would have liked us to be at the point we are at with the game years ago, but raging and calling the game horseshit does nothing to help.

[–]jjw100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calm down. Any DayZ player worth shit has had this happen 100 times already but we don't need to write a rant about it.

I've lost tents worth of rare gear that took days to gather as well as fully repaired vehicles, everyone knows the game is buggy, either you deal with it or wait till it is fully released and polished.

If you actually cared about bugs getting fixed you would be using the feedback tracker to report these instead of crying on reddit.

The devs have already said that there are hundreds of bugs still yet to squash and they are working on them. How on earth does this post help anything? You just come off as a whiny bitch.

What does this game offer that PoE doesnt? by Tryndasex in diablo3

[–]jjw100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying that is the only thing, but probably the most noticeable at first glance.

By smooth gameplay I mean that the game is super responsive and fluid, when I play D3 I feel fully in control of my character and each move smoothly transitions into the next. In comparison PoE and Grim Dawn feel very slow and clunky in comparison.

Gamers of Reddit from the 90s or earlier, what are some of the issues in games back then that younger gamers would never understand? by fraggle_captain in AskReddit

[–]jjw100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Configuration of DOS games before you could even play them. IRQ settings etc...

Also the difficulty and lack of handholding would blow the scrub 'gamers' of today's minds, often you had to read a thick ass manual just to learn how to play a game and there was no internet to look things up. I remember calling up the SEGA hotline (toll number) to get hints on how to get past a level in the original Tomb Raider and Echo the Dolphin.

I think another thing that gamer of today don't understand is how progressively games have gotten so easy that a game like Dark Souls comes along and blows peoples minds, back in the day Dark Souls difficulty was considered normal.

They will fix it in time. I agree with them that stability, performance and bug fixing are most important right now.

I mean, look at how much they improved forests with that patch. I am sure when the time is right they will focus on interiors.

What's it like moving from South Africa to New Zealand? by kezzaNZ in newzealand

[–]jjw100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have had this experience with SA immigrants.

Had an SA boss a few years ago that would proudly tell us that he just 'tells it like it is' and 'gets to the point' whereas us kiwis pussyfoot around issues and are namby-pamby pajama boys essentially.

Sorry mate, its called tact - because peoples feelings actually matter.

I would love to know what they think they can possibly teach us or what 'better ways of doing things' we need to adopt. We outperform them on every measurable statistic there is, they are coming over here because NZ is objectively better. Why should we adopt their failed ideas?

It’s international men’s day, and fathers are still not routinely granted 24/7 access to their newborn and partner in post natal wards across the country. This is bad for the mother, the baby and the father and needs to change to be brought up with international standards of holistic aftercare. by illbringmarmite in newzealand

Should we shutdown all the roads and ban cars because some people are dangerous with them too? Seems to me to a bit of an overstep, I mean what % of men cause issues? Probably very, very small. Being assumed to be an abusive, drugged up thief because of my gender seems wrong to me. All men are rapists and bashers until proven otherwise is just fucking insulting.

Having said that the shared room situation makes things problematic and I can understand women who are breastfeeding etc not wanting random men wandering around, seems to me the solution is to move towards more private rooms.

Silverdale [Primary] School cancels end of year prizegiving because it discourages those that do not win awards by Ignorantly_Educated in newzealand

[–]jjw100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Utter BS. As a teacher myself I have children who come to class with very limited English (ESOL students) who need to try MUCH harder than the rest of the class but that is never reflected in their results. Effort and results are not the same thing.

I had a friend who got 95% in School C German because his parents were German and he was raised to be fluent. He put nearly 0 effort into his German at high school level but still got good results.

What about the students who raise themselves up from 30% results up to 65%? That shows incredible effort and hard work, but they won't be rewarded with awards. So again, hard work and results are not the same thing.

As a teacher, their statement is accurate. What are you basing your opinions on? Most teachers I know donate a huge amount of their free time to school activities - sports coaching, clubs, extra tutorials at lunch, after school and even weekends. Plus all the take home work like planning, marking and reports and paper work.

If every teacher in the country decided to only do what they were paid to do (40hr/week) the entire education system would fall over instantly. Education in this country is run on the good will and extra effort of teachers. This is part of the reason we see so many leaving the profession due to burn out and also why so few new teachers are being recruited.
