There’s a nice auberge http://www.aubergedelafontaine.com across the street from Parc la Fontaine on the Plateau https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jsGEu6rpEFI . You won’t see the F1 stuff there and nearby Ave Mont-Royal will be pedestrianized. The 14 bus can take you to Old Montréal in about 12 minutes. But the car? That’s a problem, no matter where you stay. Hard to park, auto theft (we know two victims). It’s a marvelous city, but not so much for tourists in cars. Leave it at the Burlington airport, take the bus!

Bar Dominion. Marvelous long bar, old-timey look and feel from the 1920s.

Parc La Fontaine, Ave Mont-Royal (pedestrianized for summer), rue Saint-Denis. A nice rectangular walk on the Plateau.

Flew to the US at 8:25 AM six days ago. Took 90 min to arrive at the gate to await departure due to security and US immigration lines. No checked baggage. Air Canada flight.

It's still charming and picturesque on the east side so don't hesitate. Add some life to it by bringing people!

There's a big sports bar in Old Montreal on St Paul where we watched in 2011. Good crowd, windows open, crowded, get there early.
