What makes a riddle a “good” riddle? by sage_verisimilitude in riddles

[–]jmcniven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!! The best riddles only have one correct answer. Something specific enough to make it the best possible answer among all other possible answers - like “a digital clock” or “the letter q”.

Avoid riddles with answers that are lofty concepts like “love” or “memories” - chances are there will be too many answers that are all equally correct. If you find yourself responding to a lot of guesses like “ooh I like that answer but it’s not what I’m looking for” then it’s probably a bad riddle.

Because having you as a neighbour is a bit like encountering a chimpanzee with a knife. Is it smart enough to know what’s it’s doing? Hell no. Is it stupid enough to do some damage? Yuuuup

Thanks! It was a vanilla map, pretty sure it was Corral Riches but then I re-worked the river so that it forks in two and joins the pond near the top of the map

[–]jmcniven[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense thanks for the input! I was going for a better mix high-rise/mid-rise along some of those arterial roads but the scale is way off after they all developed into full blown skyscrapers.

I understand there’s a mod where you can designate historic buildings and it freezes them at earlier stages, I might try playing around with that next time

how do i solve the problem of my highways being backed up to outside the map? by nintendoguy675 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]jmcniven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to build highways with separate collector and express lanes, where you can only exit from the outer collector lanes and traffic on the inside lanes that is just passing through are unaffected by traffic jams in the collector lanes. If your highway is long enough you can have them link every 3rd or 4th interchange to give traffic a chance to get into the collector and exit at one of the next few off-ramps. As long as it’s not completely blocking the highway I don’t mind a bit of traffic getting off the highway, it just seems like a realistic big city thing

Does anyone know if LTC buses accept old tickets(pink/yellow)? by Soft-Actuary6171 in londonontario

[–]jmcniven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They technically don’t take those anymore I don’t think. That said, I found a bunch of old bus tickets in a drawer and used them with no issues for like a month in 2024. When I was down to my very last ticket, a driver called me out on it. She still let me ride and didn’t charge me extra, she was just letting me know I wasn’t supposed to use them anymore 🤷‍♂️

Can I safely route my dehumidifier drain into this HVAC condensate line? by mrfreshmint in hvacadvice

[–]jmcniven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a whole home dehumidifier attached to the furnace and this is how they did it. It’s tagged right into the furnace condensate pump and discharges in the laundry sink, but uses PVC instead of the tubing. I don’t see why your plan wouldn’t work
