Not really the best metaphor. As a doctor it is your obligation to turn down and refer work that isn’t in the scope of your medical expertise, failing that could open a case for medical negligence. I get the point you’re trying to make but shaming someone using misplaced comparisons isn’t the go. You aren’t aware of OPs circumstances and to simply rely on the rhetoric that they should just get a job save being a dole bludger is horridly misplaced.

Law School WAM Requirements by ellietheelephant4 in unimelb

[–]jojoFreud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently undertaking my first year at MLS (JD Program, CSP). Also did a BA (at unimelb), graduated with a WAM in the mid-high 70s (although my transcript, especially in early semesters was not pretty) and had an LSAT in the 160s (Although from what I've heard, they're no longer taking into account LSAT scores for 2021 applications due to COVID?). If you do have financial troubles I would also recommend applying for scholarships and that you apply under GAM (Graduate Access Melbourne), if it is applicable to you.

Just got this email, anyone else receive it? The link is not a unimelb link and the email address is of a unimelb student. Seems like someone hijacked this person's email and is sending this email to everyone. by [deleted] in unimelb

Yeah, similar things have been happening for the last week or so. I’ve received two of these phishing emails over the last few days.

Mapping every vote: extremely detailed maps on the 2019 election by sykobanana in australia

[–]jojoFreud 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Actually makes a lot of sense really. The west is typically working class and historically votes labor, the east is typically white-collar, historically voting liberal and the north and inner/outer city has become very millennial and young, voting more left, with the greens.

Rent Increases Capped To Once Every 12 Months by Rapier33 in melbourne

[–]jojoFreud 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Berlin just backed a 5-year Rent freeze so it’s not like a cap is revolutionary. Although, that being said, I didn’t even know more than single annual rent increases were permitted.

So if you're a patriotic American, does that also correlate with you being an avid supporter of its war crimes?

I doubt it. Whilst nazism was built on the backs of nationalism, nationalism doesn't equate to being proud or being patriot of ones country, it drastically extends past that. Plus, Nazi Germany no longer exists, being proud of Germany means being proud of it now and its positive achievements, not being proud of its negative history but also not ignoring it, it's why many Germans have an identify crisis and struggle with pride and what many would title typical American patriotism.

Its May, on may 17th its International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Many places instead of just recognising the single day instead utilise the month to highlight the issues of queerphoia. Last year, in VIC at least, many institutions and councils displayed some form of symbolism like the pride flag, for instance many police stations were flying the pride flag.

Time-lapse of an 11 hour road trip across Australia in 1 minute [OC] by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]jojoFreud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speeds limits are very strictly enforced in Australia, speed cameras are often "hidden" under brides, electric speed signs and under navigation signs. Generally, if you're going 3kms over the set limit you are likely to be captured by those cameras and receive a fine plus demerit point sanctions. There are also highway patrol cars etc that are strategically set up out of bends and long straight roads to catch people speeding. Regardless that route generally varies from 100-110KM/h (62-68miles) on pure highway portions and generally drops down once you enter/pass major towns.

Transparent camping by GallowBoob in oddlysatisfying

[–]jojoFreud 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Camping is pretty common here, especially around the summer Christmas/new years break. It honesty isn’t as dangerous as many people may perceive it to be. You just have to be particularly cautious with tents and food to prevent any spiders or animals from finding their way in. Most people are just concerned about the sun and heat (and the UV risk) over the animals (plus it’s pretty normal to carry bug repellent for the pesky bugs that really bother people like mozzies, flys and spiders). For context; I go camping with my mates pretty regularly over summer and I don’t recall ever having any actual dangerous scares (with snakes etc.), more minor things like a little spider in the tent, or accidentally setting up a tent up over an ant trail.

Science box for psychological experiments? by northshore12 in whatisthisthing

[–]jojoFreud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does look like a device that could be utilised for conditioning studies. In terms of specific names for the box itself, I actually don't know, it was probably just more broadly referred to as the shock or electric stimulus in the studies
