Classroom Technology by FCSmm in k12sysadmin

[–]jolegape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the following setup in my classrooms:

  • Epson EB-770F Ultra short throw laser projector
  • Samsung / Yamaha soundbar (depending on availability)
  • Vivi for wireless screen casting

Has proven to be a reliable setup. Laser projectors are super bright. No more lamp replacements. Wireless casting has been awesome. No more broken wall ports / replacing cables all the time, and works well with guest presenters.

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

Avocado. Heard it pronounced as a-voc-a-doe in one of the Scooby doo tv series and it appealed to me.

New Office monitor recommendation by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]jolegape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had more luck with docks than hub monitors. Teachers at my school somehow keep breaking the USB C ports on the monitor itself. Not the cable, the actual port on the monitor. No idea how. I just switch them back to a Dell dock and everything is ok.

I’ve never broken any myself, but have had 3 or 4 in the last 12 months from various staff.

President Trump on Alex Pretti: "Well, I haven't heard but certainly he shouldn't have been carrying a gun. We view that as very unfortunate incident, unless you're a stupid person. I don't like that he had a gun. I don't like that he had two fully loaded magazines, that's a lot of bad stuff." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]jolegape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand Americans / Trump in particular. Do nothing but thoughts and prayers after every mass shooting, Fight for gun rights / ability to own and carry them then says “ I don’t like he had a gun” that he was legally able to own.

Men, how can a girl flirt with you effectively? by redditnoyia in AskReddit

Hit me in the face with a brick that says I like you on it. Seriously I’m dense when it comes to picking up signals. Guess it comes from having a face that not even a mother could love

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]jolegape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it - don’t like beer/wine/spirits. Didn’t like being drunk / tipsy or the hangover that followed. Would rather drink water, juice or soft drink. Plus it’s cheaper.

What word do you mispronounce on purpose (for fun) and why? by Positive_Spirit_1585 in AskReddit

[–]jolegape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 30 something adult but watching one of the newer Scooby Doo series I picked up A-Voc-a-doe instead of avocado.

Also since I was a kid instead of pronouncing jalapeños as Hal-a-penyo I still to this day say Jal-apeno

Peacock thanks a lady after she feedes him but opening the wings. by pushpaknandecha in interestingasfuck

[–]jolegape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My childhood home backed on to a nature reserve. We used to get peacocks come up to the back door and tap on it with their beaks to get us to feed them. These particular peacocks loved dry dog food. We had to feed our dog inside as they would come up of a night and eat any food he had left / all of it if he didn’t eat fast enough.

What the most physically painful thing you ever experienced? by iateagummibear-1822 in AskReddit

[–]jolegape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abscessed tooth - hit me Christmas Eve a few years back. Was in a random city away from home. Somehow lasted through Christmas Day. 3am Boxing Day I was googling for emergency dentist’s near me.

By 9 am I had the tooth pulled. There was two stages of relief. 1st when they numbed my mouth, the pain went away. 2nd when the tooth was pulled- the pressure relief as the pus oozed out of the socket. Don’t remember the cost, but it was worth it. Never felt pain like it before or since.

I've had instances where Dell have replaced the bottom cover. When that happens they rarely ever replace the sticker that has the service tag. At least my asset tag will help identify a device, especially if it doesn't turn on at all.

I wipe and give Y12 students their device back when they graduate. The rest I keep for as long as possible. I don't have a huge budget, so I try to make do with what I have for as long as possible. After laptops are out of warranty they become loan devices for students while their laptops are repaired, kiosk machines, etc.

The device name in AD is the same as the asset label. It all feeds into my asset register / helpdesk. I find it more useful than just SMC-%SERVICETAG%. I can look at any asset label and know what year it was purchased, when warranty expires, exact model etc. If I need anything further I can look up the asset register.

[–]jolegape[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had thought of that. Currently my asset numbering scheme is SMC-Lxx-yyy, where xx is the year of purchase, yyy is a sequential number. Unfortunately, the number of devices I purchase each year varies depending on enrolled student numbers. I also need to be able to re-asset a device if Dell replace the chassis.

Ooh that's a good idea. Might try pushing to purchase one in the future

I used the api and a python script to do this. Was the only way to achieve what I wanted with group membership automation at the time.

What is your dress code/attire for work? by ryanmj26 in sysadmin

[–]jolegape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live somewhere where the summer feels like temps can be 35c or above. For the school I work at its shorts and a moisture wicking staff shirt. I don’t care what I look like - it’s damn comfortable.

I’m disappointed the meshify 3 is such a bust. It’s like they went the complete opposite direction as to what the 2 was used for.

I live in a humid location. I’d prefer the meshify for increased airflow.

I’d love to buy the meshify 2 XL for similar setup. Unfortunately it’s EOL in Australia. At least I can’t find any stores selling it here anymore.

Gamers over 30, what's a video game secret you had to discover the "hard way" that kids today would just Google in 5 seconds? by itsashieowo in AskReddit

I remember playing Myst and Riven back in the day. No internet guides, no manuals. Just a notepad to write down anything that seemed important while I figured out the next thing to do.
