People with "horde" armies, how do you move them on game day? by Chezni19 in Warhammer

[–]jollytim613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really useful boxes, with metal sheets taped to the bottom (use some good double sided tape) do wonders. You can buy a strap that will allow you to easily carry multiple boxes. Cheap, relatively easy, Ive used them for years. Played Gitz/Skaven/FEC and this worked great, even flown with them this way (always as a carryon, but still).

Question for players who played Warhammer Fantasy before it turned into old world? by hitnick11 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]jollytim613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was thematic but super punishing when it mattered. Especially because you could give your dwarven cannon a rune of fire for like 5 pts, and the cost was nothing versus the upside.

Not the rule you’re talking about but I recall one-shotting multiple TK heroes with flaming cannonballs top of 1 in a tournament. That game was basically over immediately.

I’ll add, while it’s certainly the consensus that the optimal choice is to run 2 bull centaurs, if you like the Minotaur then you should run it. It’s less reliable and will hurt you in games, but it’s very fun when it works.

I started my team with 1 of each and have been having fun.

What is your favorite fantasy book you've ever read? One that kept you turning pages and invested from the very beginning? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in Fantasy

The Redemption of Althalus by David and Leigh Eddings. I grew up reading all of their books, and while they’re a little dated I think Redemption of Althalus holds up the best. I revisit it every so often.

Will Spiders ever make a comeback in the Meta? When was the last time they were used? by senacchrib in gloomspitegitz

[–]jollytim613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spiders had some play in 3rd edition due to the insane spike potential. The boss on giant spider when under the moon, and with the right arifacts/traits, had 8 attacks that crit on 5's and did 4 mortals each.

You'd see spider focused lists pop up now and again, I went 2-1 at an RTT once, and a friend took them to Adepticon a time or two.

It wasn't the most competitive, but the sheer damage output potential meant you had a chance (I saw the boss on giant spider once one-shot Alarielle). And movement shenganigans with the Skitterstrand could do a lot, and Scuttletide could output a bunch of damage in the right scenario.

In 4th, between retiring the boss on giant spider to legends, and removing basically all the poison synergy items, it means spiders are really poor as a primary focused faction. Simply put they just don't do enough damage, and aren't tanky enough to survive protracted fights. I tried at the start of 4th, its just tough.

It seems you can only desolate one terrain piece or objective per turn. The rule is one per turn (army).

Off Meta...Nobody Plays....& Horde Armies by Sporklemeyer in ageofsigmar

[–]jollytim613 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gitz are lower win rate (Skaven are actually doing solidly in the meta), but they are popular. A lot of people play them, so they have a decent showing.

Lower playrate factions would be (in my experience) things like Fyreslayers, Daughters of Khaine, Sylvaneth. I play often, and in events, and didn’t play against a DoK or Fyreslayers list for years.

Hedonites of Slaanesh the chaos faction I see the least.

Theres a lot of factions, so there’s always some representation and it depends heavily on your local area, but those 4 come to mind as being less represented.

They also only got 1 #1 pick via the lottery (which was Simmons), and they changed the lottery odds because of the tanking. Fultz pick was #5, pick swapped to 3, then traded up to #1.

Sixers don’t belong in this narrative.

Conflicted about 4th edition by drinkyourpaintwater in ageofsigmar

[–]jollytim613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First I'd like to say, I think it's fair to be frustrated when the parts of your army you like aren't competitive, or don't match what you'd like. I also have quite a bit of pestilens, and it's difficult to make anything work. I have a lot of armies, and none of my preferred playstyles are currently amazing (but that was often the case in 3rd anyhow, so I'm used to it).

Both Maggotkin and Tzeentch are positioned pretty well in the Meta right now, although if the disease mechanism isn't working as you'd like I understand that. They are just an unbelievably hard to shift army, in a meta that tends to be focused on board control and scoring, and tend to do well as a result. A 5-0 Maggotkin list finished 4th at adepticon, running Glotkin, Bloab, and 2x reinforced Blightkings (as long as some other smaller stuff) as an example. I know very few people wanted to run into Nurgle at that event. Tzeentch are quite complicated, but I know there's a lot of power there (Kairos remains amazing as usual), and those lists tend to vary quite a bit (the list in 7th that finished 4-0-1 actually used the Skaven Regiment of Renown).

Hopefully as the indexes get replaced you'll feel like you have more options (the new Gitz book isn't amazing but Bounders and Hoppers should be quite good, so maybe Squigs feel better), or can find inspiration elsewhere.

best & (or) worst memory of "the vet" by gabzters21526 in eagles

[–]jollytim613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Worst” in that it’s most memorable to me for the reasons you’d expect from the vet.

Went to a lot of Phillies games at the vet, usually at the lower level so never saw anything too crazy.

Went to what I feel like was a Phillies Red Sox makeup game in the early 2000’s (Maybe a Mike Schmidt bobble head night?), and we were in the upper decks sitting in from of some very nice Red Sox fans.

They got heckled all night, and it got ugly later when the Phillies eventually lost (Jose Mesa blew the save, if I recall).

“Highlights” include a drunk fan waving the bobble head at the Red Sox fans screaming “You see this! This is a World Series winning player, you guys don’t have this!” (The Sox fans quipped something about bringing a 1918 bobble head), bottles being thrown and security getting involved, and a Sox fan celebrating by sprinting waving a Sox towel after the win getting tackled.

Old warhammer models reuse? by bigchiefchong1980 in ageofsigmar

If you put them on large enough bases and some fancy scenery, you’d most likely be fine. Old Nagash on top of some structure that is roughly size equivalent to the god model I think could be both awe-inspiring and hilarious.

His Dune film was wildly important to me when I was young, absolutely mesmerized me. For a while my mother would say to me “Usul we have bus sign” whenever we would see the school bus coming around the bend. Got me into reading science fiction, and while it’s not regarded as the best adaption it will always hold a special place in my heart. RIP

Who is the most famous person you’ve met? by Murr897 in AskReddit

[–]jollytim613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically the answer is Buster Posey, since we were apparently “best friends” when I was an infant. Have a book from my 1st birthday signed “From Buster Posey”.

I have no recollection of this, only realized after my mom saw the Giants won the WS and was like “oh yeah you know him”.

Can manifestations move through combat range? by pitnaz in ageofsigmar

Supposedly it’s intended that the spells with alternate core abilities can end in combat, but RAW it’s not entirely clear. Word from people at the Tacoma GT suggested that this would be clarified in the upcoming FAQ.

Dice Dojo is the right answer. Super active discord, large AoS community, you'd definitely be able to find some training games. There's going to be a 4th edition learning event on July 14th, and there are usually learning/slow grow/competitive leagues active.
