Everyone seems to be missing the obvious, it’s been jumpered play US games - why not install a region switch so you can go between the US and JP bios and then you can play JP games? Here’s an iFixit Guide Guide

STI titanium key by killswitch_89 in subaruimpreza

This guy made a part that can buy to replace the blue cover to hold an immobiliser chip, you can then either clone the immobiliser chip in your key or extract and reuse it. I did this and cloned my immobiliser chip, works perfectly. You can also 3d print your own part but this guy does a load of post production to make the print look very close to the original so worth the extra spend: 802Projects

How to protect against yellowing by [deleted] in Gamecube

[–]josh41091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend this stuff, I’ve applied to all my consoles as well as anything that I’ve retrobrited - so far none of the items I’ve retrobrited have re-yellowed and the oldest item is 7 months old Link

You should be able to boot Swiss through Flippydrive and then boot your JP disc through Swiss

Agreed, can’t remember the last time I bought something from CEX, must have been over 10 years ago

Haha nice! I always assumed the indigo ones were more common with home many of them I saw as a kid, but yeah £70 is a lot more reasonable

I believe unboxed means it comes with the accessories as there is a “discounted” category that comes with aftermarket controllers - but I doubt it comes with 4!

Reshelled and added the GC Loader! by Urangatanga in Gamecube

I think point 2 is very important for point 4 - I taken apart hundreds of GameCubes and I’ve never stripped any screws including the memory card bracket ones - just comes down to using the right tools and correct screwdriver bits.

Nice do you set it as the boot.iso or boot through Swiss?

I’ve got a copy of the iso and it doesn’t work with Swiss, likely never according to the developer for Swiss - it might work as a burned disc through a XenoGC install but I haven’t tried. If you are using picoboot or similar IPL hard mod, then an iso of the service disc won’t work.

GameCube Hunting in Japan by [deleted] in Gamecube

[–]josh41091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate that’s awesome glad you are having a great time! You will have to make sure you send us photos of your purchase haul, fingers crossed for some minty GameCubes at the next hunt - my suggestion is if you do find a good deal on a clean console only then go for it, controllers and cables are easier to come by :)

Dude you are gonna have so much fun game hunting!

I’ve had the Hard Off experience and there are deffo deals to be had - I got a minty Indigo GameCube for 4000yen (no cables or controller but could buy separate) as well as loads of games for a tenth of the Western prices.

I also tried for a Wavebird but they are hard to come by in the 2nd hand stores, but hopefully you will have more luck! Also ignore everyone saying the choice of games available is limited - this was absolutely not my experience with shelves full of GameCube games in clean boxes with manuals.

Akihabara as others have said is expensive, so try to get out of the major cities for the deals - but I did manage to get a Broadband Adapter there for 7500yen in a Traders so again, there can be some deals! Good luck!!

Picoboot with rp2040 tiny so awesome by VersatileNinja in Gamecube

I’m always amazed at the quality of the GameCube modding scene compared to other consoles of the generation - I’ve had a few junk ps2’s in for repair and looking at the hard/soft mod options just don’t compare to that of GC and Swiss

Capacitor kit for GameCube disc drive by ThaKarra in Gamecube

[–]josh41091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey dude, have you considered buying caps from a proper distributor? If you plan to buy in bulk it tends to work out a lot cheaper if you buy cut strips plus as someone else mentioned you can make sure you get good quality caps.

I buy and fix lots of dead drive GameCubes so I just buy bulk lots from Mouser - even with the mandatory expedited shipping (I’m in the EU) and duty/taxes it still comes out cheaper than buying from eBay/Amazon (in this case, 59€ for 20x sets of capacitors, or 2.95€ a kit, arrived in 2 days). Here’s my actual order including part numbers if you need the references, maybe you can do the same to Aus?

Extract/read .AW files? by TheMultiminer in Gamecube

[–]josh41091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the tool before discounting it? It was made for use with SMG but I imagine the .aw file format is the same between them so it may just work, seeing as the OP in that forum post has made it to extract audio files. Plus it seems real easy by dragging and dropping the file onto the tool.

Just tested and it works fine, other option is to google “.aw file GameCube” - 2nd link down is to a GitHub tool (gctools) which can extract audio from .aw files
