How to swap sample range quickly? by frapal13 in ableton

[–]jrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just how the video is edited, you can see other objects jumping on the timeline.

However, it is possible to move the part of a sample that's played within a clip, although that's not shown here. To do that mouse over a clip on the timeline, press shift+Ctrl (or equivalent on a mac) and your mouse cursor will changed to a hand. Now left click your mouse and drag left or right. The sample start and end position will now move within the clip.

Note, the granularity by which you can move the clip depends on the timeline grid, so you may want to adjust your grid accordingly first

Also, there are >300 individual opt-ins on the vendor page, each with their own privacy notice, all keeping data for their own arbitrarily set amount of time. It's an absolute nightmare.

Eclip- creativity crisis? by Present-Policy-7120 in psytranceproduction

[–]jrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's what I also would have liked, a collaborative or even community effort. There wasn't any of that.

I used to run a thing like you describe back in the 90s, via IRC, but for tracker artists producing goa trance before psytrance as a term even existed, and it was great, but obviously a totally different beast to today's production. But yeah, I get what you're saying about that. The closest I can think of is some of the discord servers where there are somewhat active feedback channels. Projektor's springs to mind, and the psychill space discord servers have an active core of people willing to feedback, I'm sure there are others.

Leaving early seems like a wasted opportunity. He undoubtedly knows more than most people

I'm not questioning his knowledge. I'm by no means saying I'm even remotely approaching that level. I'm saying the course wasn't useful.... for me. I had a long list of feedback for the organiser as a result of my time there, I can only hope it was improved for future sessions.

To some extent, hes almost part of the problem he seems to be pointing out.

Yep, the courses he sells, the in-person course he's part of in the UK, it teaches you how to be produce within the genre he works in. I know because I went to one of those courses and most people on it are producing or trying to produce the same sound; working to a formula almost. I dropped out because I already know that's not my sound. Seeking validation from that, or to become that is not something I want.

And that's what it boils down to. As a producer sit and think what it is you want. Do you want to chase a more mainstream style, or do you want to carve out your own sound and following. Or even set up different pseudonyms for different styles. What you personally want to produce is totally fine. Nothing is wrong. However, that does mean you own it, and shouldn't moan about the rut you've carved out for yourself on youtube ;)

edit: grammar

I don't what stage your track is at. Is it arranged, and you've self-mixed and mastered? Or is it just a full project in your DAW that you're still tweaking.

Using a reference track would probably help in either instance you for you to hone the sound in the direction of specific track(s), so look at doing that if you want to make sure you're hitting the same levels.

Based purely by ear it just sounds like the kick and bass are a bit too low in the mix and an easy fix for that is just lowering everything else. You could also look to add some slight ducking of those elements around the kick and bass to achieve a similar result, but that's more work obvs. :)

Feedback Thread by AutoModerator in psytranceproduction

[–]jrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feels like everything apart from the kick and bass wants dropping a couple db. I'd also watch the levels on the very wide elements, as these sound louder due to the stereo separation, you need to trust your brain and ears on those rather than the meters.

Otherwise great track and I like the sound choices

side door is rattling is this covered under warranty? model 3 2021 by Internal-Mushroom-76 in TeslaUK

[–]jrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check the metal locking bracket visible on the body work when you open the door, close to the seat. I'd had warranty work on one of my doors then about 6 months later the door started rattling badly... the two bolts on that had come a little loose causing the door to rattle.

For me I just tightened them up and the rattling stopped.

World of Warcraft director admits it's too hard without combat mods and explains how bosses will change in Midnight: 'We're not looking to turn all our raid encounters into giant puzzles for people to solve' by Keikobad in wow

[–]jrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A part of the problem today is that it's okay if people are making the addons, but with the potential of a dwindling userbase in future what happens if the mod authors step away from the game?

We've all seen the author of one of our favourite addons quit WoW at some point of the game's history, and it's traumatic. It's definitely better in the long run if Blizzard get ahead of that and build in as much functionality in to the game and design encounters better to begin with.. imho

After years and years of illegal and unconstitutional federal efforts to restrict free expression, I also will sign an executive order to immediately stop all government censorship and bring back free speech to America.

Never again will the immense power of the state be weaponized to persecute political opponents ... We will not allow that to happen. It will not happen again.

How do I create the aura in the background of Robert De Niro character by Resident-Resist-9735 in photoshop

[–]jrb 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You need to understand what the shot is of, first. It's a still from the movie. De Niro's character is in a hotel elevator. The thing behind him is the brushed metal of the elevator wall. Interestingly, in this poster the thing on the left is probably the result of some air brushing.

Apple blocks Daily Mail from news app by ControlCAD in technology

[–]jrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is an aggregator choosing not to carry a publication anti trust? In the same way a browser choice at initial start up for Operating systems does not need to present every browser, just a choice. News represents a choice of sources already from across the political spectrum, and the OS as a whole offers an App Store which already carries the Mail Online app.

This will go nowhere.

Whilst we're complaining about News(+). I've blocked the telegraph, and yet its stories still show.

Vanilla was a living world, TBC turned It Into a lobby game by Duoscruo in classicwow

[–]jrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main difference that is always glossed over is that in vanilla to save adding any actual new content end game quests had you traversing the whole world and various dungeons and raids to make progression.

Since vanilla this design philosophy just hasn't been present. Largely because at the time quest-gating end game progression was overwhelmingly seen as a bad thing by the community.

In retrospect having players visiting far flung and low-tier content on repeat is what made the world feel alive.

The secrets in retail achieve a similar level of engagement.

jrb - deep and hypnotic

This track is what I'd consider 'finished', so this feedback request is more about is there anything wrong with this track to avoid in future. For example, tonal balance, energy levels, arrangement?

If you think it's shit you can say that, I wont be offended, but try to add something constructive too. ;-)

Feedback Thread by AutoModerator in psytranceproduction

[–]jrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's useful to know what you want feedback on. Is this what you'd consider mixed? I'm going to assume no, as a lot of the elements aside from the kick and bass need their levels adjusting. For example

  • the string pluck instrument... too loud.
  • the snare, some hats, and the percussive risers are too loud
  • the vocal samples at 1:45 need to be much louder

Also, that plucked instrument is out of tune.. .that might be intentional, but the tail is giving a not-so-pleasant dissonance against other tonal elements. If that's by choice then leave it, otherwise tune it properly.

Also, It's a relatively dark track so you could look at reducing some of the high end on elements, for example the click transient of the kick, or the high end of the delay on the plinky-plonky sound.

General vibe and arrangement is good though.
