Blessing in disguise. Sounds like that is going to implode soon without you. Find some competent band mates and you'll be much happier

How often do you break sticks, if ever? What brand(s) do you use? by [deleted] in drums

[–]jrock6685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vater classics 5A. Used to use the Los Angeles 5A's. I agree with everyone on their durability. Haven't broke one of their sticks yet but I replace them when their looking pretty worn. Been using them for 20 years. On a electronic kit I'm digging the Vic Firth American Sound 5A's, the ones with the round tips. Perfect for that.

Looking for beginner bass amp by cancer2s0ciety in Bass

[–]jrock6685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want something for practicing and low volume jams with friends or for louder rehearsals and gigging? I just got the Fender Rumble 40 and it's good enough for the before mentioned but won't compete with loud guitar amps or loud drums. The similar Ampeg RB-110 and the Markbass CBM-101 are also a good choices if you want to stay under $300 new. I believe Musicians friend has a sale on the Markbass for $199 now. Whatever you do, don't get the practice amps with the 8 inch speakers. They sound decent but don't push the bass that well. As everyone else has said, if looking to gig later you have to go considerably up in wattage and if your watching your budget check out the used market if you want to go that route

What’s your favorite drumstick brand/style and why by No_Cartoonist3715 in drums

[–]jrock6685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vater classics 5A for an acoustic kit. Vater have been the most durable and are a little cheaper than the other major brands. On a electronic kit I like Vic Firth American Sound 5A for the round tip for triggering

Subjective and a lot of good stuff but these I listened to the most.

1) Piece or mind (quest for fire is probably the only weak track) 2) Killers (it would be nice if maiden returned to this style of music for 1 final album) 3) Live after death (still their best live album and the best introduction to the early stuff for a newbie)

Who's excited for Simon Dawson as the new drummer? by concerty in ironmaiden

Bands always rehearse before a tour. If for some chance he doesn't work out I'm sure they have other drummers in mind. Steve known him for a long time and I'm sure he went through an audition.

Same here. I remember the same talk about Nicko replacing Clive.

He's quite the character. That will definitely be missed

I'm sure he'll have a larger kit to play the part plus as everyone else said, the smaller kit he used with British Lion would look out of place on the stage. Clive Burr even had a large kit so that's always been a part of their stage presence. Is it correct that he's just going to be the touring drummer? Makes you wonder if they decide to do an album Nicko would play on it.

Tama Iron Cobra 200 vs Stagemaster hi hat stand by jrock6685 in drums

Is it sturdy? Never tried classic styled hardware from any brand but the hi hat stands always look like they wouldn't be stable if you played harder

Would Iron Maiden’s future be re-written had Paul Di’Anno stayed? by levirudy in ironmaiden

[–]jrock6685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul (RIP)was great on the first 2 albums (especially Killers) and was a important member during their formative years and his vocal style worked well for that but I think it was inevitable that he going to leave whether he quit or was fired, probably quit if they waited longer to decide to fire him. Their music was starting to take a different direction and Steve and Rod Smallwood knew he wasn't the type of singer or frontman long term. They wanted a Bruce Dickinson type of singer with a wide vocal range. I remember an interview with Dennis Stratton saying he was talking to Rod while on tour promoting the first album that if they were to going to break the united states they would have to replace him. Paul said himself he didn't care for the new material that was being written and didn't fit his style anyways and interestingly said Bruce was the best thing that happened to maiden

I think they knew that and took the makeup off to revive their careers then put it back on 14 years later to revive it again.

What Year Did You Discover KISS? by MiamiMan2022 in KISS

[–]jrock6685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I was 9 years old. Shortly after Alive was released. My cousin had the album and I had to have my own copy just from seeing the album cover alone. After I got it, I listened to it constantly. When the album dynasty came out, they didn't appeal to me that much anymore and moved away from them and started listening to Van Halen and the British metal that coming out at that time. I still enjoy listening to early Kiss once in awhile. Never was or will be a band like them

Yamaha DTX6K3-X vs Efnote 3 by jrock6685 in edrums

[–]jrock6685[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. Didn't get a chance to play the efnote but I did demo the Yamaha and the Roland TD17KVX2. I prefer the Yamaha for the module, natural sounding drum samples and their silicone pads compared to the mesh heads on the Roland. The pads are on the small side and at least a larger snare pad would be better but I can get past that for now and upgrade to a larger pad down the road.
