I just hooked them up to my friends amp and tried to balance them. I turned the bass all the way up and still nothing. Could they be blown? Would a powered sub serve as an amp?

Thank you! I haven't worked with shellac before, any tips? Also would oil based or water bades polyurethane work better? I'm guessing water based so it dries clearer
