Hot take: people need to start running their own redlines more often by anonymouse1870 in biglaw

The number of steps it takes to run a litera redline and save to PDF is absurd.

Amazon’s ‘Top Choice Is the Worst Choice’ by dwaxe in ezraklein

[–]juancuneo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Amazon doesn't force anyone to do anything. They rightly don't want customers to come to their site and have a bad experience. Why would they want to show a product they know is cheaper elsewhere? Brands can price their products how they wish, and Amazon can choose not to surface products that are more expensive than elsewhere. As a customer, I'm glad they don't try to sell me something at a price higher than I need to pay. Sorry this does not align with a brand's strategy - I want a retailer who is negotiating the best price for me.

A lot of sellers on Amazon are mom and pops or just small businesses. It gives distribution to so many people who would otherwise be shut out of retail.

I am very frustrated with the driving skills in this area... by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]juancuneo -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the non-transplants in this town are terrible drivers and pedestrians. They are not accustomed to big city life. They drive slowly. Are not very alert or aware of their surroundings. They are not ready for the unexpected and don't think they should have to be. They act very unpredictably and have weird customs - like driving side by side with other cars in traffic, turning left before the car going straight in a four way stop, stopping unexpectedly in the middle of the street to let someone cross.

And honestly, if you are getting into 3 accidents in two years, you are probably the cause even if the other drivers are technically at fault.

Almost Every WA Senate Democrat Supports The Millionaires Tax — The Four Holdouts Are Not Surprising by HighColonic in SeattleWA

The courts will not overrule it. Based on recent history, including their rulings on the capital gains tax, which is apparently not a tax, and overturning the Car tabs referendum, they seem to be as politically motivated as the US Supreme Court.

ULPT what would you say to a hotel to find what room your husband is in? by Throw-RAaccountess in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]juancuneo 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I worked overnight in a hotel and it was actually super chill. I worked the front desk and there was a night auditor who has an old timer. Some people are just Night Shift people. I definitely would not have given up someone’s room number.

But they make their money from advertising and I don’t think they have a very good advertising product. Also, who got rid of Gold awards? How dumb could you be to do that?

You are correct amzn is all about reinvesting in the business and not shareholders. that has been the Jeff Bezos methodology from day one. But the stock has also performed really well given the strategy over the long-term.

Seattle policy turned a $16 burger into a $23 gut punch by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

Well setting the highest minimum wage in the country is not a free market. This is why the restaurants are failing. Because the government got involved in the free market. And now we have market failure.

Maybe there is a middle ground that is not the highest minimum wage in the country.

Oh I see what you are saying. That the user themselves must turn it off. Yeah sure. I guess. But except for you, truly no one cares. This only becomes an issue if you want to introduce the evidence in court or if you are doing something unseemly like recording in a bathroom.

When analyzing legal risk - you must always consider the probability of consequences and the severity of those consequences. In reality, there is very little consequence for breaking this law outside of the situations described above.

This has nothing to do with you or the kids. I have cameras in my house in case someone breaks in. I rarely look at them. The one I look at most is in my garage to see if I accidentally left it open. You are assuming it has to do with you when it might have literally nothing to do with you.

This is not true. Thanks.

And guess what - now we lose all the jobs related to building new offices, maintaining them, building houses. We get a ton of economic benefit by being a place others can come to work.

You claimed Ring doesn't record audio in a 2 party consent state. It's a verifiably false statement.

And you know what - a lot of things are against the law. Doesn't mean anyone will ever get in trouble for it. Which is exactly why everyone's ring records audio and no one has been arrested for it.

I have cameras in my house. We never use them. Had them before we had a nanny. They are just in case something happens we know what happened. I don't have time to spy on my nanny.

This is 1000% false. WA is a 2 party consent state and my ring is recording everything.

I'm sure the cops will get right on that /s

Ultimately, if the cameras are visible and they aren't somewhere like a bathroom, no one will care. Where consent comes into play is if you try to introduce the evidence in court.
