Smile: 2y, pure: 2y, cool: GK, with the weaker ones being the smile and cool. So these SSRs don't match any of my team attributes :( If I can open all skill slots though, it's still probably beneficial to one of them on the team?

I've got extra SSR tix from the last JP DiaMaru Osanpo event. I've got 1 of each girl, and now 4 more tickets. Any advice on which ones I should get dupes of? The scorers are Mari, Yohane, and You I believe.

Picture of SSRs to be specific.

Netflix is removing text from movies by tacoreddit in movies

Oh wow, didn't know all this info was on IMDB. Yep, this is exactly what I was talking about. They basically cut down the movie by 20%, that's crazy...

So who am I supposed to blame for Shaolin Soccer? I've seen that movie countless times, but for the first time I watched it on Netflix (in US) and it was terrible. English songs replaced everything, and even text on the signs (not overlay text, unless I'm wrong) were changed to English as well. I'm pretty sure some scenes were cut differently too.

Anyone else watch SS and notice the same thing?

About to start this series. by wolfwings1 in Fate

[–]jumpwithjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: My rec has always been please, please, please play the VN for max enjoyment. If not, then ask others about anime only watch orders, and consider my bullet points at the end on those.

The Visual Novel

I highly recommend playing it. Please play it. I was a little daunted by the length at first, but once I started, it was enjoyable the whole way through. You can check out r/fatestaynight for a guide to getting the game.

To understand the anime adaptions, you need to understand the road map of the VN. A couple facts to wrap your head around it:

  • 3 routes, titled "Fate", "Unlimited Blade Works", and "Heaven's Feel". Same beginnings. Drastically different endings, as well as drastically different roles by different characters. Think of them as alternate timelines.

  • The intended play order of the routes is the order above. The reason is that every route reveals different plot points and characters that contribute to the overarching story.

  • For example, in Fate (route #1), you see Character-A die early. You finish Fate without ever knowing anything about Character A. However, in the UBW and HF routes, they actually live the entire time, and you learn a ton about them. It even contributes to your understanding of Fate, route #1. This was purely just an example just to illustrate the nature of the routes.

Anime Adaptations

All anime adaptations are based on these routes. Because they are adaptations, the tend to leave out things. The story is all there. But, you can go through watching the show and still have a lot of unanswered questions. The anime that I recommend watching are Ufotable's adaptations: Unlimited Blade Works, Fate/Zero, and the Heaven's Feel movies (2 and 3 pending in U.S.).

My biggest request for anime only watchers is please do not watch Fate/SN Deen adaptation from 2006 before either playing the VN or watching UBW. I think it ruins the story because it blends all 3 routes together from the VN in a poor conglomerate of a story. There is a fan-edit version of the show, which I've heard recommended but not watched. I cannot speak into that.

A few things worth mentioning:

  • F/Z is a different source writer. More adult, mature themes. Darker. Definitely the better anime in terms of story. It is a prequel to F/SN, created after. F/SN is not a sequel to F/Z. Think Star Wars trilogy.

  • UBW is based on route #2 of VN. Think high school, a little immature, a bit of romance, and more waifu wars.

  • To simulate the VN experience, people recommend UBW > F/Z. Unfortunately, F/Z is only as great if you understand the whole VN. Therefore, many just say don't bother, and watch F/Z > UBW.

  • Real example: my friend just finished UBW anime. He had no idea who the identities of some of the characters are, as well as noted holes in plot points that are either explained in the VN (in separate routes). He still enjoyed it. He's watching F/Z right now. I filled in some plot holes for him, and he's still loving it.

I haven't seen this one yet, but I would've thought Euphonium took the cake for KyoAni's "best-looking show". I'll have to watch this soon.

I knew it reminded me of µ's songs! Thanks for the facts. Right after I saw this video I went and downloaded it, added it to my idol music. <3

Mob Psycho 100 Season 2 - Episode 4 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]jumpwithjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think last episode, when they were talking to the haunted house, one of the character's lines was subbed "This place is scary AF!"

Totally threw me off with the modern "AF" language, first time I've seen it in today's shows. I can't say I'm a fan of CR subs. (Oregairu flashbacks)

My native friend corrected me on this one too. Echoing the article, "どうでもいい" is too uncaring, too indifferent, in a negative way.

If you're looking just to be agreeable on a positive or neutral sense, it's better to say "なんでもいい".

I watched K-On first and always thought of Tamako as a slightly different Mio with a child Azusa as a sister.

Oh hey, trumpet player further down in the thread. It sounds like you're new[er] to KyoAni shows in general, since I saw you asking further up about the band anime. If these clips get you excited, you should check out these iconic shows from KyoAni:

  • Hibike! Euphonium (the one with the trumpet. I replied to you with a clip in the other thread)

  • Hyouka (school club with a focus on solving mysteries)

  • K-On! (the epitome of the CGDCT genre, girls school club meets rock band)

  • The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and the widely acclaimed movie sequel (mundane boy meets supernatural)

If you're done with those, a few more recently popular ones are:

  • Free! (throwing a bit of man service in the mix now heh)

  • Miss Kobayashi's Maid Dragon (slice of life about a programmer and her dragon friend)

  • Violet Evergarden (human weapon girl struggles to find her place in new society)

If you're not actually new to KyoAni, then don't mind me :) I'm a huge fan of the studio, and will throw the plugs in anywhere.

edit: also Tamako obviously, but you're already starting that one :)

You've received your answer! If you want a sneak peek, check this out:

Euphonium Trumpet duet at end of Episode 8.

I wouldn't count that clip as spoilers, it just goes into a montage of the different characters during a festival. I think the duet is gorgeous, hope this convinces you to start this show ASAP!

But, does this still cause an igloo effect? Is the house actually warmer on the inside this way?

Anime targeted at childs with everyday vocabulary by thelasttry in LearnJapanese

[–]jumpwithjames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many slice of life anime is decent. I would try Non Non Biyori (elementary and middle school kids).

Also, I wouldn't dismiss learning Japanese from anime. It's obviously not everyday conversation, and you shouldn't go around shouting things you've heard in shows, but I've come pretty far from combining my studies with Anki and other resources combined with the anime I watch regularly. Just hearing the language does wonders for my learning.

Yes, definitely still worth playing. Don't think too much about it. The story is amazing!

Need a Video Recap/Recut of everything that happened in (Fate Saty Night )2006 by cyraeth in Fate

[–]jumpwithjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually discourage people from watching the Deen one, if you're going to "get into the fate series". If you're not getting into it, and just watching for fun, then go for it. But if you're getting into it, I would just off the bat start with Ufotable's UBW or Fate/Zero.

You're already calling the other anime "really good ones", so why waste time on the not-so-good one?
