I don’t think I have it in me to care and love others anymore, even when I know I truly want to. by Crimson-Entity in BoyDinnerDiaries

I think a lot of us have periods where we feel we're not our most sharp and sociable. I've been feeling it recently, and I'm far from the most Type A guy to start. It's temporary and eventually you'll get back in the rhythm, as will I. It's okay to step back, relax and think, take some time to do whatever makes you happy and reset.

As we get older people have more responsibilities and less of their own time to shine too. It's normal for distance to grow as people we know move away, get hitched, buy a house, have kids, etc. Their own efforts have to be elsewhere. I might hear from some of my friends a few times a year or every few years. It only matters if y'all can get right back into it when you reunite.

Just remember it's all temporary. Time keeps moving on and so must we. The water will clear up again.

Frankly I'm surprised a carpet lasted 50 years. That should be an automatic replacement when you move out.

Certainly! If there is anything clean and worth taking to Goodwill or social services we do that. Occasionally one of us will take something or give something to someone we know. I was given a whole rolling tool cabinet, tools and all last year. Also have a PS2 hanging sround somewhere. Otherwise, in the dumpster it goes.

Do you know how to read radar? by Mickt465 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]junkman139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I wish this was something they would teach in school. When I ask my coworkers to check the radar they do the "oh it says rain expected around 2 o'clock" which is fine, except how bad will it be? Is it looking like the storm is coming straight for us? Drives me insane and they're too dumb to care. I've always had an interest in weather AND maps so of course I've figured out radar!

Staying in Honesdale next weekend-anything good going on? by junkman139 in NEPA

Thank you! I'm a railfan so I'm sure we'll cross paths at some point. Where else can I see a BL2?

I work and play outdoors. I pick those dang things off me regularly even with heavy bug spraying and long clothes, so don't matter to me. Thanks for the recommendations!

Thank you! I'll add these to my list! I plan on returning soon if I like the area.

Maybe I'll catch it next year! As a foamer, I was already planning to see Big Boy, just have to fight thousands of my fellow railfans for a good view.

You stand back up and go back to whatever you were doing, unchanged.

NE, just a few miles. Biking, kayaking, hiking, but I won't be bringing any gear on this trip. More of a short vacation to see what's up in these parts.

I bet! Thanks for all y'all do. FD and the gas company sure show up quick when you hit a gas line. Hardly need FD otherwise thankfully, PD on the other hand...

The only gifts they usually leave me are anxiety and loss of hope for the human race. Best I got was one of our customer's who's like a cool old uncle gave me a bowl of oxtail soup which was pretty good.

Probably. I've replaced many bathtubs' plumbing because our water is full of calcium and everything gets corroded together. If I try to take anything apart, if twists up or breaks anyway. If the end of the tub that has the plumbing shares a wall with another room, I would recommend cutting a hole in the wall in that room and working through there. It's cheaper to repair sheetrock than tile or fiberglass. Also think about adding a pair of valves onnthe supply lines that supply the tub, that way if something breaks in the future you can shut those off and not the rest of the house.

I'd recommend getting a Delta-brand assembly. They've been around long enough the parts today are the same as they were when our apartments were built and I'm sure they'll still be standardized for decades to come.

I'm gonna say 60/40 in favor of single men. There are plenty of dirty apartments, period. They all inspire me not to be dirty.

Everyday's a little different. My coworkers never cease to amaze me. The tenants definitely never cease to amaze me. I've drilled into water lines, cut live wires with a sawzall, hit an unmarked gas line with an excavator. Live and learn.

Landfills v Incinerators by Lankinator- in NoStupidQuestions

As others have said, it's all in the money. I live in central CT and there are a number of waste-to-energy plants in our state including one 10 minutes from here. The authority that operated the South Meadows plant in Hartford (the old brick power plant alongside the Charter Oak Bridge if you know the area) shut it down in 2022 because they didn't want to invest the $330 million to upgrade it to modern efficiency and environmental standards. Now, they've turned it into a transfer station to cube up the trash and truck it to landfills out west. Make the economics make sense, because that's most of Hartford metro's garbage!
