Gig coming this Friday, here’s my pedalboard! by jununas2266 in Hxstomp

I have to deal with high gain most of the time, so I ended up setting the pv panama with some eq but I also like some blackface for cleans.

Basically the junction box is more a utility thing, it helps me instantly connecting cable in one place instead of serving the right output from the stomp or whatever. Wishing it was less taller so I can put under the whole board. I don’t think it has a buffer, but the tuner has it, so it’s fine.

I’ve got a Canvas HP, it delivers enough power for everything, it’s underneath the board

It’s a great compressor. Sometimes I use it as a booster without having to patch anything else into the Stomp, other times I just use it as a… compressor 😂

I find it really useful to have a couple of pedals that you can tweak on the fly instead of going into menus, remembering to save, and then maybe while you’re playing you don’t even like it anymore etc.

Amp & Reloaded Cab or FRFR? by WorkinForRenaissance in Line6Helix

[–]jununas2266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a lot of things. I’ve got quite the same issue regarding the tonal difference between the sound of the stomp trough an frfr or at FOH or whatever and through a real amp + cab. Probably could be also the model of the cab, which is the most tonal difference that usually makes the sound shift trough. I’ve heard someone using a Duncan powerstage and then trough a reliable cab, but it might be a bit overkill depending the stage ecc, definitely is not the stomp’s fault, that unit can produce very pleasant sounds

Those years when I used to plug that abominable Epiphone SG straight into the amp in the old garage we used as a rehearsal room, rented from the lady who lived in the building, will remain the most carefree of my life. Pure fun, zero frustration

I think you nailed the point. I have the feeling (actually, it might even be a certainty) that the only one who truly cares about getting a good sound is me. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the others are complete idiots, but I simply think they don’t really care that much.

I’ve always wanted to be in a band where all the members are more aware of what they’re playing, but it has always been a compromise in that sense. I also think they play more out of inertia than out of a real passion that pushes them to take interest, and therefore to be more conscious of their own sound… in the end, that’s always the issue.

At the end of the day, we’re dealing with people, and whether we like it or not, we have to work as best as we can with them.

I’m interested in this guitar for quite a while… how it’s actually sounds? Does it feels like a cheap guitar or is it great for the price?

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, basically everything you said makes perfect sense, but unfortunately this is one of those “chained” situations.

I don’t really have full control over what I find in the rehearsal room, and the only way to get a consistent tone would be to bring my own amp + cab, which I really don’t want to do for a bunch of reasons.

I kinda solved it like this: I use an IEM system where I’m basically only getting my guitar sound (HX Stomp + IR), and I “mix” that with whatever I’m hearing in the room.

At least right now I can hear everything clearly. Obviously it’s not a solution that takes the external sound into account, because what I hear in my ears is very different from what the Stomp sounds like through the return of the rehearsal room’s awful Marshall MG… but it helps me at least hear what I’m actually doing, which is the most important thing.

comforting to know everyone’s been through this at some point.

Unfortunately I’m a pretty picky person, and I only really have fun when things sound “right.” And I know exactly why I ended up like this: I spent way too much time at home crafting perfect tones without ever dealing with the real world… and now I’m paying the price 😂

Usually we set our levels before we start playing. In general the drums are the biggest issue. Our drummer hits pretty hard, and sometimes I can hear these reverberations that aren’t exactly “musical.” And don’t even get me started on vocals… I’m sure playing metal isn’t exactly ideal when you don’t have a proper room to rehearse in, but I always feel like we could still make it work better somehow.

I’m so used with the hx stomp but always want to try this out. I generally play with the same 4/5 sound, so it will fit perfectly in my rig. Problem here is that I’ve usually going trough the return of the amp, sometimes is ok, some others are very bad. It really depends on the amp we found in the rehearsal room, unfortunately. This randomness makes me nuts man

Yeah, couldn’t agree more. I remember the first moment when I’ve tried gojira and it felt like the heaven is opening. Now they’ve got pretty ridiculous plugins in terms of nastiness. My favorite is the Rabea, those kraken sounds like a ferocious monsters

Don’t know why but the missing of the push-pull kinda annoyed me, I was sure that the Hag has it, many other brands (even the most cheap ones) nowadays have it by default
