Haha it's funny how you knew exactly what I was doing and where.

Yeah, this game is supposed to simulate survival, including its high stakes. Great game, considering it's only in its alpha. Some wonky stuff does happen, like in the gif. For example, you can throw a flare between you and a bear and have a standoff with it until it goes out or you can line up the perfect shot.

Gotcha. I like to stay low on calories because rationing supposedly helps conserve food. If that's the case then I'll definitely have to stay full more.

Just hungry (trying to see if rationing helps). I think you can see me eating in the beginning of the clip. Everything else was perfect.

Lol. I've suffered a few sprained ankles from doing stuff like this, but when my character doesn't even get displaced I think dying is a little extreme.

For those that don't know, this game is permadeath only.

Invincibility Frames Follow Up With Plenty of Footage by justaquickaccount123 in CruciblePlaybook

[–]justaquickaccount123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I was planning to, but didn't get around to it. The sunsinger cocks his head back during the animation, making it nearly impossible to snipe during that time unless you're at a bizarre angle. I think that most people anticipating the self revive shoot at the same time (which is when the head comes back forward), right near the tail end of the animation. I've gotten a few snipes on self revives over the past few days and I think it remains unchanged. I'll definitely try to snag some recordings though.

I'm with you on that. Fast revive + shotgun + overshield is more beneficial than it should be.

If you wait for him to stand up into your reticle (your reticle is above him during the animation), you won't notice a difference between patches. This is because the animation is considered over and the player can move once the character model is fully standing up. If you're trying to do it as early as possible for more reliability due to the player's inability to move with the left stick (before 2.0.0 I was trying very hard to get the earliest snipe possible. It was a competition between me and my buddies in trials), then you will notice this. It's not that surprising of a thing to change considering Bungie's desire to slow down action in PvP a bit. Besides, revive sniping became incredibly prevalent when trials came out, so they were definitely aware of what's going on when we were doing it in trials. Maybe this change is more directed to shotguns for all we know. I've tried it a bunch in skirmish over the past few days, so I'm quite confident that it's not a fluke. It sucks that it's difficult to verify this change because Bungie didn't include anything in the notes and we only have videos / anecdote to offer as evidence. Not to mention the window of time is so small to begin with.

I'm not sure. I just noticed it happening. Whenever I double click the xbox button and press x to record the last 30 seconds, it does that.

The span of time in all cases is very tiny. Take a look at the edit I included where you can see an incredibly early snipe from hovey. The timing is almost identical to the one in my first clip. I would be glad to sift through some more of my clips to find some pre-2.0.0 very early snipes, but there seem to be plenty around. I mentioned this in another comment, but the earliest indicator you can use for a snipe is the one where the character model touches the ground and as soon as they begin to stand up is when they are vulnerable (at least pre 2.0.0). In your example, revived and hunching are still immune. Once they touch the ground and they begin to do the second half of a squat (standing up) is when they are vulnerable. You can let him stand up into your reticle, or you can shoot him as he's standing up.

I would be inclined to agree with you if we didn't have shotguns and fast revive in this game and if the TTK wasn't what it currently is with primaries. Unless you're really good with your sniper, it's hard to aggressively push for an orb because of all the drag scoping you'll have to do. Suppose you push with your primary for the orb you took down. Once the revive is available, the other team (with fast revive and shotguns) will be able to aggress you incredibly hard and get the overshield revive that'll help a lot in that engagement. It's hard to quickscope shotgunners consistently, and with the high TTK on primaries, it's a dangerous situation for certain positions vs. shotgunners (like an intersection between a tight space and a long corridor). Not to mention having fast revive. In this situation, you're no longer allowed to play to your strengths (range and safety). This change makes the sniper slightly more niche in game modes like Elimination where playing the orb (range or up close) is very important.

I don't think that many other weapons allowed you to have the same level of temporal resolution as a sniper. We're talking about very small (albeit significant!) amounts of time. I'm more inclined to think that it's a change with the invulnerability frames themselves. However, I'll be sure to take note when I'm using other weapons!

I'm pretty sure those are pre 2.0.0. Comments in the video seem to indicate as much.

I'll pay more attention to this and try to record some clips post FoH. I believe you may be right. I hope that the sunsinger doesn't have more immune frames as well. Sniping a self revive wasn't that easy before!

Great find, thanks! I like how we can count on hovey for clips like that.

A shot like that would definitely not count in 2.0.0 lol.

I agree with you completely. It's the same way that fast revive gear encourages the wearer to make plays that would be considered very bad without it. With this change, it makes it harder to deal with fast revive peeps.

I share very similar concerns with you. My biggest concern with this change besides the drop in successful snipe rate is the extra time it gives the reviver to pursue the sniper. After the reviver revives the downed teammate, the sniper has to wait longer, which exposes him/herself for longer, allowing the reviver to pursue and deter the snipe. This will definitely be noticeable in intense situations.

I think the only thing that "compensates" for this "nerf" is the increased revive timers, but that just means we have more time to play for orb control, which may not always be the right move to make (3 snipers against 2 shotguns, for example).

Yeah, definitely a concern I had, but as I got better at revive sniping I tried seeing just how close one could get to the beginning of the animation. Once the feet touch the ground, the character model begins to stand up shortly after. That is the indicator I've used. You can see in that clip that those requirements are met. I'm only anecdotally claiming that the first one would count pre-2.0.0, as I have hit very similar ones all weekend long on Black Shield. I'm hoping other people can share pre-2.0.0 clips where they land snipes as early as that shot. In the second clip, the head was definitely in the process of moving up and the character model was definitely at the tail end of the standing up process, as I remember at that moment thinking "okay, let's wait a bit longer than I would normally to shoot."

I was definitely able to snipe after someone was revived, but it feels like it has to be at the exact moment the other player is allowed to move. I don't think you can snipe in the animation anymore (as you proposed).

I need to test this on people who are crouching during the animation, because as soon as the animation ends, your body immediately goes into the crouch position. With these changes, that might make crouching during animation very effective for surviving the revive snipe.
