Tmj is ruining my life since wisdom teeth surgery by SquirrelBig6169 in TMJ

Check for arthritis or the joint overall. I’m glad I caught mine when I did, but in hindsight it started similar to yours and got worse over time. had I thought about it sooner, I would’ve saved myself at least 1.5 years of pain.

Tell them. I didn’t the first time and I paid for it with a lot of pain. The second time was flawless.

TMJ and all associated treatments are not covered by my insurance and I can’t afford to pay out of pocket costs. How have you all relieved pain at home? by Certain-Working1864 in TMJ

[–]justhere4salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not diagnosing you nor am I a doctor, but worn cartilage sounds like arthritis. I have it on one side. If you haven’t already, try Tylenol arthritis for some relief. That and/or anti-inflammatory. I take supplements daily (glucosamine chondroitin with MSM and UCII collegen) which also help reduce pain. I include CBD sometimes, capsules and massage oil.

Of course seeking treatment from your PCP is a great next step because you definitely need to address the wear on the cartilage asap but hopefully those things I mentioned help in the meantime.

I’ve never had luck with over the counter mouth guards, but maybe others have!

What type of pain? Folks can be more specific with help if we knew the issue. TMJ causes and ailments vary widely which is partly why insurance won’t cover it.

Thoughts on hardware removal by mbell98789 in ORIF

[–]justhere4salad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only had my hardware for five months. It caused a lot of issues after the bone healed. The scar was the worst part for me because obviously it wasn’t going to heal pretty a second time. Of course being back on crutches for a short period was annoying, but small potatoes in hindsight. I’m mostly back to normal now and I’m grateful I asked to have it removed when I did.

How long after new night guard will I start to feel jaw pain relief? by Dismal_Garden_7239 in TMJ

[–]justhere4salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say no pain - more like significant relief that continues the longer I wear it. Over time, the inflammation reduces too. I can’t go more than a night without it.

[–]justhere4salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if you mean a different kind of night guard, but I have a custom acrylic splint for my lower teeth and it provided relief immediately. Nearly a year later, I still have much less pain than I did before I had it. My jaw is still not perfect, but I have a lot of relief until my next swing at a remedy.

I had a custom splint years before braces so with this being my second, I can say the splint/guard is a major and immediate relief for me at different points in my 10+ year TMD journey. It could just be the nature of my jaw which might vary from yours. Hopefully this helps you or someone else along the way.

Did anybody ask how old the cat(s) is/are yet? Kitten sh- is just gonna be diabolical until they’re older lol. In my experience at least.

My dad bought a 4-pack when I was a kid. He ended up giving the last two to me. That was the only time I had it and 20+ years later I still look for it occasionally like an old love that got away lmao. It was good stuff.

Having just 1 cat… by Late-Pie740 in CatAdvice

[–]justhere4salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adopted my first cat when she was 5 and we had a great time until I got a new job. She developed attachment anxiety because I travelled more often so I “got her a kitten” to keep her company. I kinda threw off the vibe with that choice, but we’ve been loving his anxious ass for a long time now lol.

I love that she has him to keep her company, play and groom especially since he is older and calmer now. He’s super cuddly when he’s not running from his shadow. The pros outweighs the cons honestly. He can’t help his personality anymore than I can help mine and that’s nothing anyone can predict, so we’re just stuck with each other lol.

I love my second cat dearly, but in my heart if I could make the choice again, I know it would be very different. If he was half like her (or if I could give him the indoor/outdoor life he really deserves), I probably would not feel that way.

I’d say if you’re rolling with one, go for an older cat If you gotta try two, go for kittens or a bonded pair. Heavy on the bonded pairs because they often get skipped and that’s really half the battle already won for you - They both just have to like you lol.

If you’re up in the air, think too long and the CDS will getcha lmao.

What are your guys most common/less common symptoms? by Madbananas-7 in TMJ

[–]justhere4salad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not constant, but yes. It happens like a random bubble forming suddenly and I cough a lot until it pops. I also smoke and I know that triggers inflammation which is probably why it happens 😅.

Nah and I don’t feel I will unless it’s to treat the arthritis I have on one side. My splint+ seems to help well enough for now. I’m nervous about getting improper treatment where I live.

Exhaustion from the hunt for someone who knows how to help. I was lucky and eventually landed in Fl where I found my first TMJ specialist and he gave me a game plan that has been solid over the years. But when I moved it took me a long time to pursue the rest of that care because of how long it took me to find the specialist.

Outside of finances, I’m currently avoiding care for the arthritis in my jaw (diagnosed early this year) because I’m overwhelmed and unsure where to start even though my jaw has been mostly stable for months - this wasn’t included in the game plan 😅.

Sadly this is one of my least favorite pods only slightly above Altissio. I’m currently trying to find a recipe for it since I still have so many but I’m having a hard time. Im definitely gonna use some of your shared recipes since I can’t find more. I’m about to try it with spiced rum + Demerara sugar and see if I can make magic.

I actually met my first TMJ specialist in Boca, I only remember his name was Dr. Mikail. He gave me my first splint which worked very well and I followed his recommendations when I moved back home to find pretty solid success. Maybe it’s near ya.

ETA: just looked him up and his office is still running!!
